So new expansion announced, out of the blue IMO and quite soon after Lich King. Opinions?

New races seem pretty cool although Alliance seem to have the better deal with the Worgen, Goblins don't appeal to me that much. The fact that theres redoing the Azeroth is fantastic especially now that we'll be able to use flying mounts there. Heroic Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep is great too.

Only thing im not keen on is that there simplifying stats by putting Spell Power into Intellect and Attack Power into Strength and Agility. Removing Defence as well sounds stupid to me.

Still it'll be enough to keep me interested in the game for a while longer anyway

I'm really looking forward to this. I think it's really bold of them to go back and re-imagine their starting areas. From what I've read, the idea is that all the things that have happened, story-wise, will be reflected in the old world, like Duskwood they specifically mentioned being flooded out and completely transformed. Which it desperately needed, nothing was more annoying than running back and forth between the two corners of that zone.

That plus the two new races should make starting from level 1 an interesting experience for the first time in a long time.

I agree, its possibly going to be the best expansion yet however it does seem very soon... WotLK came out a little less than a year ago where as BC had a 3 or 4 year gap between WotLK but, the game right now seems a bit boring for 80s. All I do is a couple dailies and maybe one or two heroics and if your lucky get into a raid. so I think they see that and they wanna hold on to more players. either way im skyed for it!! 😀

I always look forward to expansions.

Doesn't seem to soon, really. (and it won't be out until late next year anyway) They have to keep churning out new content to keep people busy and wow players DEVOUR content at a rapid rate. Ulduar is getting old, ToC isn't really big enough to keep people occupied for too long...so I say, bring it on.

REALLY looking forward to Icecrown citadel before the expac.

And yes, revisiting Azeroth is a much better idea than adding yet another zone. I cannot WAIT to go back to Black Rock Mountain after the volcano blows it's top.

NOT looking forward to level 85 freaking barrens chat though. =P

Eh...

I'm okay with the simplification of stats. For me, usually, it's just about plugging whatever gear I'm considering into a spreadsheet anyways - not like the numbers on the stats matter much to me anymore. Of course everyone knows what stats do, but weighing 40 ArPen vs. 80 AP, for example, is something 'mathy' and not immediately apparent. This seems like a good reduction in complexity to me.

Overall, I am happy with the announced gameplay features.

I am not okay with the lore changes. [SPOILERS AHEAD]

Thrall would be Azeroth's biggest fool to appoint Garrosh as the leader of the Horde. This is not what the bilateral-minded Thrall would do if he had any brains at all.

I am infuriated that the Warsong Clan would make any kind of advance into Ashenvale. The Night Elves are fierce warriors and are defending their homeland. The terrain even suits their style of fighting. The loss of Southshore and Darkshore, two iconic Alliance towns, also seems quite unfair - what do the Alliance get in return?

Malfurion going neutral seems like a terrible thing since he is one of the Night Elven faction leaders, and his forests are being cut down by the Horde. It seems quite ridiculous to me that he would remain neutral and not take action against the invasion.

I am quite stunned that the developers would take away so much from the Alliance and not give us anything. Then again, Metzen plays Horde. Go figure.

So it was, my concept of time in that game is seriously warped. I started playing over 2 years ago, yet it doesnt seem like its been that long. Scary

I am really not liking all the dumbing down they are doing with the game. I look back at 40 man raids where if you had one person slacking things didn't end well at all and I miss that. This tuning for the lowest common denominator is not something I like to see happen in games. It's typical of a SOE run game but I really hoped Blizzard would not get sucked in to the sucking that tuning like this ends up at.

As for another expansion, I haven't even been bothered to level one of my toons to 80 yet. I have 7 of them in the mid 70s. This expansion just made the game die for me I guess. I'm really looking forward to the Bioware SW game.

I don't think they are dumbing down the game. They are providing options for various levels of players. The optional hard modes are a great idea - best of both worlds really. The challenges are there if you seek them out. There are plenty of fights in which one mistake spells a wipe.

I am a die-hard Blizzard and WoW fan. I've been playing since beta, and I recently just stopped playing. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but I stopped. Like completely. I am currently playing Aion and it has rekindled my love for MMO's, but WoW just leaves me bored now. I am really looking to Cataclysm to reboot my WoW love, and get me back in the game. I have high hopes, but also many weary fears.

Catacalysm does seem like a reallly sweet expansion
I can bring back my memories of wiping at dm <3
And all those stat changes were made to make wow more simple
Blizz wants the game to be appealing to everyone, so now there even making it good for 9-10 year olds
And god finallly we get a wearwolf!
although dks will still probably get nerfed

I had planned to play and get a character ready for the expansion, but I stopped. I've got a lifetime free membership for lord of the rings online, I'm playing that instead for now.

Yup...same here. Closed beta and we even won the contest to have a server named after us. Hell, I still have 2 collector edition expansion packs that I never used. It (Wrath) sucked so bad I couldn't bring myself to use the codes.

Ive recently stopped playing. A mixture of boredom and lack of free time means I'm more likely on my 360 now. Might go back for Cataclysm though.
