Wow, this place is getting boring!

"Huh?"

That translates to "treat others as you want to be treated" or maybe its "stop bitching about others and worry about yourself." I don't know..... the translation has gotten hazy along the way.

I am a decently new member and I have found the forum to be somewhat disappointing at first but as time goes on, I've met new people and discovered new functions of the forum which has enhanced my experience with TT greatly.

Seeing how I am a little computer illiterate, and this is the first forum I've ever been a part of, it was a little intimidating at first. It takes some time for new members to 'open up' and get into the action and learn the tools. Or maybe I am just used to more user friendly (for idiots) social internet sites such as facebook.

Thanks to all the people who regularly contribute and I encourage people to get more active because, as always, the more you put in, the more you get out...

Now there are crappy RPGs made with a scripting engine all because one guy made a little quick game.

The forum populace seems way more interested in instant gratification through limited-interest Internet Fame than they are with forming a community or participating in the forum at large.

As apparently part of the "cancer" killing this site, I feel obligated to respond. Now, if this was the Powerpuff Girls fanfiction fandom I would make comments that would probably come across as obscenely arrogant and just downright rude. As I don't have the reputation nor pull here that I do in that medium, I'll refrain from commenting at all on the other "crappy RPGs made with a scripting engine" and instead focus on my own contribution to the demise of the Tickle Theater.

First I'd just like to say, this isn't isolated to Tickle Theater at all. As previously stated, I'm a rather active member in the fanfiction circuit, specifically the Powerpuff Girls fandom. And hear you me, I would rather be part of a bored community than a community that is a festering disease to the intellect and progression of an entire fandom.

The fandom is literally on the path to destruction, and those of us who actually give a damn are doing our best to make our time. I'm trying my damnedest to bring some life back to it, but I'm just one person. My sixty stories aren't going to do it alone, and I seem to be the only one still trying. Everyone else just...complains about how it's become. The most life the fandom has seen was last week when I created a troll account and just trolled everyone. It was a blast, it was fun...it was there and gone tomorrow.

The Guitar Hero community is almost as bad. Has anyone been to Scorehero recently? If not, take a trip there and see just how preferable boredom is to civil war. If you aren't dry-humping a picture of Alex Rigopolus and crying out "Harmonix!" at climax, you're probably going to get flamed or at least you're going to be uncomfortable. What's worse, the staff themselves are getting paid by Harmonix, so there's SUCH a bias against Guitar Hero that it's sickening.

What's my point? It's not just this forum, it's a wide-spread epidemic. I mean god, even *chan is going through a trough, can it get more pathetic?

Now I said that to say this:

Yes, there are a metric shit-ton of members who do nothing but leech on a community. They don't want to be a member, they want to be a parasite. But every now and then, someone tries to advance from parasite to contributor. They've lurked for years, given nothing back, and suddenly...they find and outlet that will let them give back to a community that has given them so much.

They spend hours, no not hours, they spend days...wait no not days, they spend weeks: losing sleep, missing class, neglecting other projects, pouring their heart into something to give back. They finally come out of the woodwork as a contributor. And then...what the hey, decide to take that one big step further to become a member.

The biggest thing that hurts a community is putting up a brash front toward new members. No, not parasites, or attention *****s, but people who are actually trying to become a part of the group.

I have scoured the General Discussion forum specifically, looking for places to contribute, to try to form some kind of connection. And it's not easy because, like you've said, things are stagnant. But...well I've rambled on and not made a lot of sense.

Who should the revitalization process fall on? Who is responsible for bringing life back to the forums? For taking a message board and turning it into a community? Wouldn't it make more sense to...I don't know, perform CPR instead of standing beside going "Man, he ain't breathing,"

This went from one guy simply saying "This place is boring..." to "... we need more sub forums...". Now we've got all the champions of the high road commanding "JUST SHUT UP AND HAVE FUN!" And how often does it work that you just throw the switch and START HAVING FUN!!!!?? You either enjoy something or you don't. And no one is "bitching" or complaining, they've simply agreed with one guy who stated his opinion. And the most irritating thing about this whole [pointless] "discussion" is that it's illustrating the very point that has been bitched about here. One person says something... everyone else either needs to agree or just shut up/contribute/stop complaining, etc.

Journia expressed his opinion, several people agreed with it and expressed why with valid details, and now all those people are "whiners"? The inability to actually discuss anything here is what makes it the way it is, not the topics themselves.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Went from one guy saying this place is boring, to people agreeing, to people suggesting how to not make it boring, intermingled with people complaining about why it is what it is, to the Aye's and Nay's of a sub forums to... Well, anyone can read the thread. =p

It's like topics of conversations shift and sway with the passage of time and the addition of other people.

Not sure what your point is, should threads be: Topic A. Poster Z doesn't like it. Poster C likes it. Thread closed.

As for DuesExProcella, I think he's more offended that something he spent a lot of time working on and trying to contribute to a community is being compared to something like Cancer, the number two killer in the United States. He handled having something he loves and contributed with being called cancer better than I would have.

Oh look, I've gone almost two paragraphs without mentioning something silly.

Vagoo.

I'm confused about what you're saying...so unless people are agreeing with the initial sentiment it's a bad thing? If you're referring to me, at no point did I say anyone was whining. In fact, I'm (in two other locations) in a very similar position and realize just how frustrating it is. I was offering my two cents from that view point.

At what point did this discussion become pointless? The moment there was a dissenting opinion? This isn't sarcasm, this is a legitimate inquiry.

Actually the direct translation is a little closer to:

"I think some people in togas are plotting against me"

No. Honestly... this had nothing to do with you or your previous post. If you stand back and take a bird's eye view of this thread, the nature of it is the same as all the rest. The pointless part is thinking any of them will be different.

I don't really care what happens, I just enjoyed Journia pointing out that it was boring and seeing how many quickly agreed. But as you could guess... that's the wrong opinion and you're a whiner if you think that way.

The irony here is that, if nothing else, this innocuous thread has proven to be a decent debate on a number of things...good or bad. Shows that we're real people with real things to say and real things we believe.

I never actually thought TT was "boring" to begin with...maybe a bit less active. But, these things happen. And, once the topic of this or that subforum came up, it became a topic-within-a-topic, and that happens in r/l conversations as well.
