Yurihausen,

It's been an honor working with Yurihausen on these comics. He's brought a lot more than just his artistic skill to the table (which, as you can see, is already a considerable boon), he's brought a lot of ideas. He's become much more than just "the artist we hired for this," he's become a real collaborator. I remember when Oblesklk sent me a link to Yuri's deviantArt page and said, "Hey, check this guy out." I thought, "Yeah, right. Good luck getting this guy!" Thankfully, I was wrong.

Yuri gave us a spaceship for the girls. He made our bad guy look like a villain (and a crazy one at that!) and not just some guy in a hoodie. This may sound like the droolings of a fan-boy, but once you've seen the work... well, I think you'll see what I mean. (And that is that I don't drool. Much.) 😉

Congratulations Yuri and Jon "Strike Team Alpha," you guys have seriously worked your butts off for the last half year or so and the final product definitely shows. This is a fantastically detailed and meticulous project and it's only going to get better as Jon takes the helm as head writer for the series with Yuri having his back on artwork.

Hunted #1 and Hunted #2 are both scheduled to release May 2013 as back-to-back issues. Each issue is between 15-16 pages long and truly pushes the envelope of what CG artwork can bring to the table. Simply put, I have never seen anything quite like Yuri's work. It is just amazing. The detail, the inside story/jokes, nuances of facial expressions, it's all there. And the icing on the cake? Yuri is a foot guy, and his artwork absolutely reflects this as well.

The storyline is going to plug in well to existing Agency Publishing universe canon, taking place hundreds of years after the events of "The Agencies." It will truly be sci-fi in every sense of the word. The three of us are all truly geeks at heart (my apologies if that word has negative connotations in your necks of the woods gentlemen. In Seattle it is a badge of honor) so working on a sci-fi project was a lot of fun.

We will post more production pieces as the month of April continues. For now...enjoy the link provided at the beginning of this post.

That's what I mean on the ship. The Siren has a great mix of Firefly's Serenity and Star Trek's original Enterprise. She's functional, no frills in some places, but still sleek and easy on the eyes.

I couldn't contain my excitement when I saw the squad-car orbital hopper! It was like Yuri had read my mind, nailing exactly what I'd imagined.

U.N. Pegasus-class cruiser, "The Siren".

See what I mean? This guy's mad as a hatter; you can tell just by looking at that first image! He's not wearing anything elaborate or outlandish, like a supervillain get-up. But he looks plain crazy. A lot of this is the juxtaposition of what he's wearing with everyone else in Hunted, I think.

And that spacesuit totally blew me away! When I wrote the script in which he's in it I thought it would just be some ratty-looking version of a suit not much more advanced than our own. Then Yuri sent these! I thought it was a villain from Batman Beyond! Even though it was way more futuristic than I'd imagined, Yuri still made it look run-down by the setting's standards. You'll see what I mean when you see Lae'Shaar's and Candace's suits.

The dastardly villain.

Thanks for sharing these, Yuri.

Candace

Candace Forrester

UN Military Rank: Commander
Gender/Species: Female Human
National Origin: United Kingdom
Height: 1.7 m/ 5’ 7”
Weight: 54 kg/120 lbs.

Abridged Bio: A rising star in the service, Commander Forrester has overseen asteroid mining ships near the Andromeda colony for the past two years. Her duties included supervising security, scheduling space traffic, and overseeing routine vehicle maintenance for over a dozen craft. Given her familiarity with the system, she has recently been assigned to investigate strange reports from the Andromeda colony’s third largest city. Although the mission is coded as high risk, there are no indications of civil disturbance. 01110 – Hah! We’ll see about that. – 100101

National Origin: France
Height: 1.68 m/ 5’ 6”
Weight: 58 kg/128 lbs.

Abridged Bio: Lieutenant Hodgson is a promising young officer who is skilled in both hand-to-hand and ranged combat. Her most recent assignments have been as squad-level fire support. She has also received consistently high marks in single-seat aerospace fighter missions. While her hard skills are proven, she has so far shown few of the soft skills that would lead to a command position.

Lae'Shaar

Lae'Shaar

UN Military Rank: None, advisor
Gender/Species: Female L’Ni
National Origin: N/A
Height: 1.75 m/ 5’ 9”
Weight: 52 kg/115 lbs.

Abridged Bio: Lae’Shaar, like all of the alien L’Ni, is actually a being of energy who has taken on a physical form to better interact with humans. Many L’Ni have trouble relating to humans, but Lae’Shaar is one of the most skilled diplomats her people have ever produced. She is currently attached to Commander Candace Forrester’s investigation as an advisor and observer but, as is the L’Ni nature, it is expected she will assist in any way she can. Her Environmental Interface (E.I.) has been set up for a wide range of options to adequately facilitate whatever role the mission may demand.

10011010 – Most Ticklish: Hmmm, are L’Ni even ticklish? We’ll find out! – 1000010*

Yurihausen's character models are absolutely stunning!

Candace Forrester is my favorite. However, Lae'Shaar is damn sexy. (I love her hair)

Great work guys!

Hunted #1 Promo featuring Andrea Koshkova as Lae'Shaar

Here is a screencap of Andrea Koshkova, who plays Lae'Shaar in our faux film production of "Hunted." She is walking the red carpet as the faux film premieres. The tabloids are all over an interesting factoid about the actress's feet and production of the film. Wouldn't it be nice if more media covered the relative sensitivity of actresses' feet?

Emily Nelson

Emily Nelson

UN Military Rank: None
Gender/Species: Female human
National Origin: United States
Height: 1.68 m/ 5’ 6”
Weight: 49 kg/108 lbs.

Abridged Bio: Emily’s work in anthropology and sociology 1010111 – Ooh, a people person! – 0101001 in the Andromeda area has caught the attention of high-ranking officers in the UN military. The implications that some of the recent unrest throughout this area might have more profound connections have prompted further investigation. Emily has been sent, along with military escort, to complete her research with hands-on investigations. 10111010 – ‘Hands-on ?’ That one’s too easy! – 000010101

1101100 – Most Ticklish: I’ll bet this princess doesn’t even know. I’ll have to conduct some ‘research’ of my own. – 001010*

Hunted #1 Promo featuring Summer Dawson as Emily

Here we see Summer Dawson, the actress playing Emily in our faux film "Hunted." The actress talks about her accidental foray into acting and how she ended up being cast as Emily in the film. She also talks about the production crew having a bit of fun at the expense of her ticklish feet.

"Elizabeth," Candace's Rail Gun

Yurihausen and I decided Candace didn't just need a sidearm, she needed a hand-canon. And a futuristic one at that. 🙂 Meet "Elizabeth."

Weapon designation: “Elizabeth”

Open-vent energy dispersal: The weapon ejects the electromagnetic (EM) energy created by the weapon firing the shot out of these ports, which are open to the air. This energy dispersal would be analogous to the muzzle flashes associated with today’s weapons.

Rifling EM field coils: These electromagnetic coils wrap around the barrel of the gun and spin the ammunition as it exits the chamber, not unlike the rifling etched into the barrels of today’s weapons. This spin increases range and accuracy.

Impulse EM field coils: These create the electromagnetic impetus that moves the ammunition out of the gun. They can change polarity to push or pull the round, depending on its position. This is controlled by internal computer.

“Hot-knife” laser-powered projectile cutter: This micro-laser slices off part of the solid-core ammunition to prepare it for loading into the chamber. The ammunition size toggle determines how much is sliced off. “Hot-knife” is (fictitious) jargon.

Chamber: Where the round resides before firing.

Chamber attitude EM field coil: This pulls the round up from the ammunition slot after it has been cut off by the “hot-knife.” It also keeps the round suspended in the chamber and in the correct orientation for firing. If the calibration of the latter is off, it could result in a disastrous backfire.

Solid-core metal ammunition slot: The ammunition for the weapon is a solid, circular bar of dense metal. This is cut into usable rounds by the “hot-knife” laser cutter. The loading port is in the rear of the gun and is covered when not in use. An indicator light shows how much weight is left in the slot, as the adjustable size of the rounds makes showing the number of shots left inaccurate. The firer is trained to quickly calculate how many shots of each size she still has in the weapon at any given time.

Genetic verification grip molding: Every legal weapon in the UN must be linked to the genetic code of one or more owners. The molding on the grip contains a series of genetic scanners that confirm the person holding the weapon is the proper owner. If it is not, the internal computer shuts the weapon down.

Ammunition size toggle: This dial allows the user to select the size of the round being fired. Larger rounds do more damage, but require more energy to fire. Smaller rounds are able to be fired quicker, but may lack some of the punch of larger ammunition. The setting tells the “hot-knife” how much of the solid-core ammunition to slice off for loading.

Options hard-point: This bay allows the weapon to receive one of a number of optional features. When none are installed, it is filled with a placeholder block to keep debris out of the internal workings of the gun and provide a consistent weight for all weapons.

  • “Slingshot” EM range-extender: This is an additional impulse EM field coil to extend the range of the weapon. “Slingshot” is (fictitious) jargon.
  • Laser sight: This is a constant, low-power laser that helps in targeting. It is the same as today’s laser sights.
  • Low-capacity auxiliary weapon: This is a secondary weapon option for the pistol, though the size limitation means the weapon’s power and/or ammunition capacity is quite small. Examples include mini-explosive launchers and one-shot beam weapons.

"Being that this is a P-12 Barracuda railgun, the most powerful handgun in the galaxy, you've got to ask yourself one question..."

This was done during issue one's production as a joke.

Environmental Interface (EI)

Environmental Interface (EI):
Although it might appear otherwise at first glance, the L’Ni are not humanoid lifeforms. They are highly advanced beings whose natural forms are made of pure energy. This makes their understanding of the universe vastly different from humans’, of course, as their interactions are not based on matter. If a L’Ni wishes to alter something, she or he must do so using energy. They have no physical matter to push or pull against other matter. While it might seem almost supernatural to humans, using energy in this way is as instinctive to them as for a human to push his hand against a light switch to force it off.

This deep-rooted understanding of how each species changes the universe around them was a great obstacle in early meetings between L’Ni and humans. To make these interactions easier, the L’Ni decided to take on forms similar to their new friends’.

Despite the physical similarities, however, the L’Ni still found it easiest to manipulate their world using energy. As the L’Ni provided humanity with the many technological advances that have led to the current age, they built in ways in which they too could easily access these devices. These inputs and outputs respond to energy modulations produced by the L’Ni. Such control mechanisms are universally referred to as the Environmental Interface, or EI.

Of course, humanoid forms cannot alter their energies easily enough to use the EI. Hence, when a physical L’Ni body is created, it contains an extensive array of integrated sensors and energy controls. These appear on the skin of the L’Ni as swirling, blue tattoos which light up when the L’Ni is interacting with an EI system. Such “tattoos” interact best when there is as little matter between them and the EI technology as possible. Hence the proclivity of L’Ni to wear as little as modesty allows, so they are free to interact with the world in a way that is both familiar and efficient.

EI access is not universal, however. A L’Ni is given clearance to access EI based on her or his needs at the time. For instance, Lae’Shaar’s current mission allows her access to certain types of EI deemed necessary for a diplomat on an investigative mission among humans.

The one universal permission granted to all EI tattoos is a link to the Universal Library, the great collection of knowledge made up of the wisdom and experiences of every L’Ni who has ever lived. Instantaneous access to this repository is one of the greatest strengths of their species and is a source of almost spiritual pride and reverence for all L’Ni.

When I was given the description of what Lae'Shaar's scan would look like, the guys were nice enough to send me a visual reference in a Superboy cover...

So then this happened...

Hunted #1 Promo featuring Abigail Longley as Commander Candace

This is a tongue-in-cheek, faux artistic magazine spread of Abigail Longley, who plays Commander Candace in "Hunted." The left panel shows the actress relaxing at home, while the right panel shows her dressed up in another film. As always, Yuri finds a fantastic opportunity to show a foot shot in the piece. He has a true talent for it!

There is definitely something about Abigail Longley/Candace Forrester's look. Exotic skin tone with well-proportioned Caucasian features. She looks gorgeous.
