Is yahoo a good or bad thing?

I don't really know!

It can be good because such groups like "tickleguy" are there (or hopefully still there) and he was like the biggest contributor of tickling on yahoo but then again you will be deleted alot on yahoo!

What do you think?

PS. I hate street clowns! one came up to me and stopped me on my way back from work and he squirted me with a fake flower! ARGH!
I shall seek my revenge!

I don't know...its good cuz its free, but its bad cuz if you use the email addy from there you get 20 spam messages for every real one.

And sometimes yahoo has these weird hiccups in service. that make it a pain now and then.

It is free, so you really don't have much of a basis for complaining. 😛 However, they have been making more than one group go poof lately, so I have to wonder if they are getting ready for or already beginning some sort of purge....

I use Yahoo for my E-mail I love it I have a 100MB sized mail box I don't get much in the way of junk mail Now on new groups it can be a pain to down load a clip or look at a pic because of the bandwidth problem Just give them a few days and it's usually no problem to view them

I always hear negative things about yahoo groups- but I have to say that in addition to being free- I have had pleasant and enjoyable experiences with the groups. First of all- in addition to hundreds of tickle groups- there are groups on virtually anything you can imagine.

Also- they are often so specialized that one can find something on very specific preferences. he one drawback is there are no effective seaches for sexually oriented material- so it involves alot of trial and error- especially with regard to each groups links.

What about.... Insane Clowns, who travel in a Posse?

For all its faults, I like Yahoo. The email is more or less reliable, and the selection of groups is phenomenal. I myself belong to about twenty ranging from classic literature and poetry to poker afficionados to crossword buddies. Shows what a dull life I have :wooha:

I've been using Yahoo for four years, and this is my assessment:

E-mail: excellent. Fast, efficient, good storage and attachment handling, and effective spam filter.

Games: fair. Some require Active-X controls that render them unstable, and some attract spammers and weirdos.

Fantasy Sports: excellent. The best free service available, but watch out for cheating in some leagues.

Geocities: good. Reliable and fast, but limited storage and bandwidth and no hotlinking.

News/Finance: excellent, far better than MSN and other free services.

Messenger: good.

Groups: horrible. Slow, tiny storage and bandwidth, ancient technology for message boards, poor security, lots of spam, and prone to arbitrary deletions for no apparent reason. Yahoo Groups are the worst among the free group providers.

Overall, Yahoo rates a "good."

Its my experience for all the time I've been here and having used the same group these years that yahoo is good, that is to say, its good to me.

I quite literally have not had any problems of my own and no reports of problems from my members.

As for spamming, I simply don't allow it. And any owner/mod who complains about something they have complete control over in preventing shouldn't be complaining. And if it takes members to complain then the owners/mods aren't doing their jobs.

I haven't gotten a single spam messege or spam member sense....I can't remember when, its been that long. I've won the war against spam, and the key to victory is persistance. Don't give up and let them have their way.

How do I rate yahoo though?

I'd give it an 8 out of 10. Its just been good to me. I see so many people including some of you guys who have been screwed by the system/network time and time again, and yet I'm blessed somehow. Not to rub it in of course. As I'm sure someday something bad will happen that will effect me to some degree. I'm just fortunate that it hasn't happened yet. So far though, these past years, I can say they went by without incident, and thats good enough for me, especially considering all my group is for is my art, and if something should ever happen to it, I have other sites, forums, etc. So it would be more of a sentimental loss than a critical one. I have options as everyone whose been around at least as long as I have should.

Planning ahead is always a good thing.

Insane clowns that travel in posse's?!?! Thats just sick and wrong! I can understand him trying to make a living but you just don't go up to some random person and squirt them in the face!

But i have a plan! He always work's outside my street entertaining! Well, when i walk by him i'm going to go up to him and in my briefcase i will have a balloon filled full of cream and whipped cream! well... you can guess what's gonna happen next! 😀

But yeah!Yahoo is pretty cool! The only person i know FOR SURE that hates it is cheshire cat! Have you seenhis new sig LOL!!! Hilarious!

Vlad, regarding the spam problem at Yahoo Groups, we do have it under control, but it takes us 12 mods plus two co-owners to keep a (sometimes-rowdy) 3,000-member Group totally spam-free, while still allowing people to use the links and file-upload areas freely. Even Wanadoo Clubs allows the links page to be moderated, but Yahoo is all-or-nothing with links and files. Wanadoo also has central spam-blocking and overall better security than Yahoo.

Love to all,

I'm sure, but you can still have the benefits without tolerating the nonsense. It may not be popular at first, but your true, loyal members will come to appriciate it. I know what I do isn't just for me and my sense of well being, its for them. And I remember all the times friends and even complete strangers have posted thanking me for doing what I do and for standing up for the principles I do. Its moments like that that make any down side to moderating worth it.

Yahoo sucks ass! 😡

I struggled for a long time with their 4MB limit and lousy spam control. Then they suddenly increased the limit last summer to 100MB, which was cool, and shortly thereafter to 1GB, which was insane. The reason? Competition from googlemail. IOW screw the customers until forced to do something decent by competition. 😡

Just got my main group deleted for, yes, no good reason. Please tell me where to find these better group providers, I'm done with Yaf**kedup.

I'm not too hot on Yahoo groups, but the email, briefcase, messenger and My Yahoo has continuously impresssed me over the years. Now consistently use My Yahoo for the briefcase, the news, the ability to add my own pages to it, and the calender feature.

The best for me has been http://groups.msn.com but Beta News reports here that MSN will be moving their adult groups to another provider later this year. (I have not been able to find a second source to confirm the authenticity of the original article, however.) Regardless, I consider MSN Groups to be the most viable option for now.

Smartgroups offers more file storage than MSN Groups but is quite censorial and often makes groups "invitation only" if they contain adult content.

www.freeadultboards.com doesn't censor content but only offers badly outdated phpBB message boards with no ability to upload images or files -- all must be remotely hosted.

I hope this information is of help,

Ever see the movie "Killer Clowns From Outer Space." It's a low-budget classic.

Back to the thread. Yahoo's free so I don't complain. It is irritating though when they delete a group with no reason. Solution . . . pay for a host--but then it's NOT FREE.

I use AOL for email, but I guess there isn't really any email thingy thats perfect;.....I like yahoo because when I joined this site, I deleted the email TT sent me to start my account, and I couldnt re-use my aol account to get another membership on TT. So what did I do? Made one on Yahoo (Hungarian4life😛), and even though I dont use it much, it saved me from not being a loudmouth brat between you calm people. 😛
