Yes, when I go to approve members on my group I see now that they have the option of puttind down why they want access. While I know why, and some of them say things like "because I saw your work on TickleTheater", "I saw your link on the TMF", "I saw your work and I love it!" etc., what I don't know is when this new feature was installed?

I am all for it. It tells me why people want to join and it makes it easier for me to traffic new members. Although I'm sure some of them just say whatever just to try and impress me and gain membership.

Anyways, when was this new feature added? Is it manditory to fill out? I have no way of knowing what it looks like because I haven't joined any groups recently. I don't want my potential members thinking they have to jump through hoops or sweet talk me to gain access. But if this is manditory, theres nothing I can do about it.

Please, could you tell us, what are you talking about of?. I haven't none clue.

Yeah, it is manditory to fill out that comment box and it sucks and waste my time. I really do not like yahoo groups and its policies any more.

This feature began showing up about 10 days ago on my groups ... it's bizarre, since many applicants fill it in with things like "a" and "qwerty" 😀 Yahoo is getting very difficult, with the daily download limits, photo attachments no longer allowed on message posts, and other annoying policies. Smartgroups is actually not a whole lot better.

Well, I'm for it as I said. I can see how it would be a hassle for others though. But for me, it allows me to know where these people are coming from, and chances are I might know them somehow, when otherwise it would be totally anonymous.

As an owner it makes it easier, but as a user I can see how it would be an extra bother.

Yeah...!! what IS the deal with Yahoo now, these days?? It's really gettin' annoying!

Am I the only one here who likes this particular change? It gives me more control over my group. Note, I never cared for anything yahoo has done, but again, specifically as a group owner, having their reason for joining can help me sort understand the exact reason for them joining.

For example, if they saw my art somewhere else (which is almost always the case it seems, by what they say) then I know just how much they want to join. If it's just some random person off of the internet then they are statistically a number, representing a person who may just be there to take my work and split. While anyone can and does do that, at least I know that they (those that give reason) genuinely want to join because they know my art somehow and saw samples. It is these individuals whom express themselves that I know are loyal members. Someone who just fills it out so they can join doesn't warrant my attention, though they get approved anyway.

The only people I turn away are underagers. And I only do that because I put my group in the adult section to protect it from being closed. Obviously, being what it is makes it vulnerable to Yahoo's discriminating tastes, and so it could have been deleted, despite the fact there is no actual adult content.

But so as to not seem like a hypocrite or irresponsible person because of the technicalities involved, I'm not letting in known underagers.

Just a couple weeks ago for example I got two people using the same account, whose names I will not disclose. They had their profile labeled as them being 18, but clearly upon looking at their picture, they were two young children, who looked no more than 10 years of age. And in this picture the boy was tickling. It was apparent to me they would try this anywhere and probably have, and for them to be so curious about fetishism and quite possibly the sexual aspect of it at such a young age, I don't know, it just shows me they aren't being monitored by their parents or whomever the computer belongs to. And I refuse to be apart of that 'irresponsible statistic' of site/group owners that allows underagers access to questionable material, or down-right pornography.

As I said however, the bit of irony is that my site is not an adult site, but IS in the adult section. I can either start letting underagers in or appease Yahoo by doing what is TECHNICALLY right.

What do you think I should do?

Vlad, I definitely recommend playing it safe by keeping it classified as adult and enforcing the age limit. Yahoo has a reputation for deleting even clean groups based on vague criteria, so I would not take a chance.

As to the reason for joining dialog, I don't mind it 🙂 In some cases it's helpful if people tell me where they saw my link.

BTW, can you please PM me the identity of the account you are concerned with? I tend only to spot-check profiles and am concerned that I might have missed that one (eek).

Best regards,

Actually, I would, but see, I rejected the account and it was two weeks ago or so, so I don't remember the name exactly. I vaguely remember it however. I'll dig through my archive and see if it's not on the record, and I'll get back to you on it.

Its good to see you care enough to ask. 🙂

You're welcome. I'll be sure to let you know if I come across any other suspicious accounts.
