Merry Christmas: Are you offended?

I say Merry Christmas. I'm perfectly content for people to wish me happy holidays, happy Hanukkah, happy Kwanzaa, good Yule, happy winter solstice, merry Boxing Day, happy Santa day, or pretty much whatever the hell else they want to.

Like Happy Gilmore said, "Gold jacket, green jacket, who gives a shit?"

This issue has life, due to the efforts of paranoid, right-wing morons who simply can't deal with being in a more culturally diverse world. "The War On Christmas!"

It is a stupid issue, utterly of no merit whatsoever.

I would rather say Merry Christmas because that's what I celebrate, though I do say Happy Hanukka, etc etc to those I personally know who celebrate it, however since I spend a majority of my life at my job, I am forced to say "Happy Holidays" if I get caught otherwise by another manager or a "secret shopper" saying Merry Christmas, I can get written up because it's inappropriate when not on Christmas itself >____________> lame ass company I work for. I can also get in trouble for saying Happy New Year because of some lame ass reason my boss told me last year *shrugs*

Woohoo freedom of speech? :paranoia:

I don't care. People can wish me merry christmas, hanukkah, id, festivus or whatever.
And as far as getting offended by getting the wrong greeting... Well, despite popular belief, never getting offended is not a human right.

I am extremely offended! No not really. I think its quite stupid for people to get so offended. I mean i'm not Christian, and I dont get all pissed off about someone saying merry christmas. A greeting is a greeting to me. Hell Christmas wasnt originally Christan, and it still isnt really.

Its the holiday celebrating commercialism!

You're still butthurt because i didn't apologize to you after you made a crack about "small penis count". More then once in the same thread.

Exactly how was i being ambiguous? Did you even bother to read what i wrote or did you just see my name and attempt to start shit?

If i go out somewhere i expect to be greeted with Merry Christmas. Because stores are selling Christmas gifts and having Christmas sales. Restaurants put Christmas decorations up (lights, little decorated trees etc). Why would i think i would be greeted any other way other then Merry christmas? I wouldn't.

That couldn't be any more direct. After answering the OP i added in that i say Happy Hanukkah to my jewish friends. Perhaps that is what confused you. Just to help you understand those are two different things.

1. What i expect people to say to me not knowing what i celebrate but understanding they are selling things for Christmas or have Christmas decorations in their restaurant.

2. Since i know my friends are jewish. I obviously wouldn't say Merry Christmas to them.

Different thoughts. Not ambiguous at all.

I just saw your name and attempted to start shit.

I'm a bit jewish, and i historically said merry christmas. now i generally say happy holidays because that seems to be the norm now. i think most people are just saying 'i hope you enjoy this time of year where everybody gets a break from work, sees loved ones, and has a great time'. Seeing as how the VAST majority of people celebrate christmas, christmas just seemed to work. Of course there are exceptions, ie the lovely gent who wished sasax a merry christmas in the holy spirit of His infinite crucified wisdom or whatever. but i think by and large, merry christmas doesn't come with an assumption that the person is christian. it's just a nice thing to say. then again, happy holidays is also nice. i wasn't offended before, i'm not offended now, and i'm therefore not quite sure why i'm posting?

probably cause my butt still hurts :)

Meh, I don't really celebrate anything, so I don't use any of the holiday greetings. And when someone says one of them to me, I just say, "Thanks, you too." If anything, I get offended by the pointless conflict over holiday greetings. Actually, last year, I wrote something about it, here: http://writer-maverick.livejournal.com/18646.html?#cutid1

Happy Christ Mess, everyone! :D
