What a difference a week can make

:super:

Last Friday, a comic book fan site ran a really nice article about my company. I had almost forgotten about it, as they approached me about it something like two months ago. Anyway, the article ran and everything (the company name, comic titles, my name, etc) has been added to their sites database, which is pretty cool. They also want me to notify them of any new releases so they can advertise them. How nice is that?

Also, there was a run on sales on each of my issues over the weekend, so it put money in my pocket, which is always a welcomed thing! Now, instead of being a starving artist, I can be a mildly hungry artist :neenerneener:

I was also approached by a guy who used to be a storyboard artist on the 90's Fantastic Four cartoon. He said he likes what he's seen of mine and he wants to draw a cover for an upcoming issue...sort of his way of doing something to show support. How freakin' cool is that? The Marvel fanboy in me has been jumping up and down! This guy likes MY stuff? I was worried maybe he had me mixed up with someone else. Anyway, I have him scheduled to do the cover of my next issue (#5); may as well strike while the iron is hot!

Also, my website is getting an overhaul, which I hope will be done in time for the new year. My writer is actually going to handle all that, as he does stuff like that for his job, so it's really up his alley. I'm just thankful to have one less thing I have to be in charge of!

This past year, I have been working on two seperate titles, but I think it's been too much. I was routinely working late before I got the flu, which I'm sure had a part in my getting sick. I am planning on cutting back to one title for 2010, so I can have a more doable workload. I feel that by not having to worry about the website and cutting back to a single title, I can concentrate more on my artwork and the technical stuff in post production. I've kind of been all over the place the past year, rolling out two seperate comic series (plotting, penciling, inking, lettering and coloring), setting up a website, maintaining a forum, and trying to squeeze in some advertising for the company. I kind of HAD to do all that, to get some product out, establish characters and storylines, and figuring out a work schedule.

My New Years resolution for 2010: "To focus"! Sometimes, less is better.

I plan on attending my first comic convention as an attendee this spring. My local one just happens to be the states biggest too, so I hope I can play my cards right and not look too ameturish.

I am currently finishing up an annual for my first comic title. The series is an anthology title, but since the issues have been taken up by the current ongoing storyline, I am using the annual to feature a western story and a back-up feature, a sci-fi story. I also got my fellow nerd brother, TKLMAN, to do a couple of pin-ups for it. I am a big fan of his stuff, so I am excited to have the opportunity to include something from him in it!

Anyway, it's been a busy week, but hopefully I can take it a bit easier in December. Man, whoever realized that comic books was actually hard work??
