So he died last night..and the weird thing is..i woke up around two in the morning and couldn't get back to sleep for hours.and i found out this morning from David that two o clock was the time Ted died...i tossed and turned etc...i was always a fan of his...no matter what people said against him...even as he was dying he thought of the country...wanted to change a law in his state, so that the Govenor could appoint a replacement for him..what i admire about Ted Kennedy is this...he could have lived off his riches..retired long ago...but he chose to work for our country...of course he has his enemies..and nay sayers...what i will remember most about him is how his voice shook as he was giving the eulogy for his slain dead brother Robert...

He was the Kennedy patriarch...all the terrible things, he took upon his shoulders to do...identifying John Jr's body...

I know there are Kennedy haters out there..to me..he paid the price ten fold for what happened back in the late sixties..that's just how i think...

You know, Maniac, even though you clearly don't like him, there's no need for that. He was still a fellow HUMAN BEING. I am saying nothing else as I don't want to start a flame war.

RIP.

^^ You can be such a total dick head at times..well make that most of the time..but at least you are consistent.. *edit* i mean Maniac not AngelofDarkness

You think something woke you up at that time because Ted Kennedy died?

All these ghosts and goblins and paranormal stuff going on in your life, man. Crazy.

RIP You drunk bastard!

He got away with murder!

On July 18, 1969, Kopechne attended a party on Chappaquiddick Island, off the coast of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, held in honor of the Boiler Room Girls. It was the fourth such reunion of the Robert Kennedy campaign workers.
Kopechne left the party at 11:15 p.m. with Robert's brother Ted Kennedy, after he — according to his own account — offered to drive her to catch the last ferry back to Edgartown, where she was staying. Kennedy stated he made a wrong turn on the way and came upon a narrow, unlit bridge without guardrails. Kennedy drove the 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 off the bridge and it overturned in the water. Kennedy extricated himself from the submerged car but Kopechne died, after what Kennedy said were several diving attempts to free her.
Kennedy contacted several aides that night, but failed to report the incident to the authorities until the car and Kopechne's body were discovered the next morning. Kopechne's parents said that they learned of their daughter's death from Ted Kennedy himself before he reported his involvement to the authorities, but that they learned Kennedy had been the driver only from wire press releases some time later.
A funeral for Kopechne was held on July 22, 1969, at St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, attended by Kennedy. She is buried in the parish cemetery on the side of Larksville Mountain.
A week after the incident, Kennedy pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident after causing injury. He received a two month suspended sentence. On a national television broadcast that night, Kennedy later said he was not driving under the influence of alcohol nor had he engaged in any immoral conduct with Kopechne.
Questions remained about Kennedy's timeline of events that night, about his actions after the accident, and the quality of the investigation and whether official deference was given to a powerful politician and family. The events surrounding Kopechne's death damaged Kennedy's reputation and are regarded as a major reason that he was never able to mount a successful campaign for President of the United States.

^ thank you for something i didn't already know...

Hey, i dont normally like to see anyone die from any form of cancer. its a horrible death, but this piece of human debris is better off where he is..........in hell!!!!

Well hmm i predict...the certain closure of a certain thread......golly gee maniac..don't hold back now...tell us what you really believe...

They'll have to screw him in the ground.

I'm all for not starting giant flames for absolutely no reason, but a person dying does not - in real life - make them an instant classic. I didn't like the guy when he was alive, so I'm not obligated to say "RIP" or anything now. Everyone dies. We don't owe him a moment of silence. If you liked him... fine. If you didn't... equally as fine. But we don't have to fucking tread lightly around the issue. Nor do we have to post nice things about him. If Izzy will miss him... so be it. And if someone else hated him, fair enough. And if this thread is closed, it'll be because the members attack each other, not Ted Kennedy. Or at least it should be.

Cancer sucks and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'm sure he went through an ordeal and that's unfortunate. But seriously people... relax. You're not the Kennedy kin or spokesperson.

fair enough...and if you will notice, in my original post, i said there are Kennedy haters...yes i'll miss him..i was a fan...i took up for him on another forum, in which i was the only one who did...and i never claimed to be his spokesperson...i liked him..probably about the only one who did...i watched his brothers being buried...i'll watch this one also...

good point though, Nerrad...and maniac knows how i feel about him...i've always known him to be a die hard Kennedy hater...and i personally will not attack anyone here...Maniac and i go way back in our rather friendly insults..

So if someone starts a "Boy am I glad Ted Kennedy's dead" thread... then what? Close it because it's "negative" and relishing? I won't say I'm glad he's dead, but I will say people should be able to post their opinions.

I agree. Some people are going to be sad to see him go. Others will be glad or indifferent. Just because someone doesn't say "OMG This is horrible. RIP His family will be in my thoughts and prayers" etc etc doesn't mean the thread should be closed. I mean, if that's the case, then every negative statement on this entire damn site should be deleted.

Nerrad...you are so right....i started this thread...people can voice their opinion...i've already stated mine...nothing anyone can say will change how i feel...i don't expect it to...this is the USA...and this is a tickle forum....freedom of speech should be allowed here as it is supposedly allowed in the US...

however that being said...i never rejoice in anyone's death...i might have, if i'd been around during Hitler's reign....but i can hardly connect Ted with Hitler...

anyone dying will be missed by someone....i hope..otherwise they've led a fairly sad existence...i loved Ted..i loved John..i really loved Bobby...i sat there and cried along with my mom, as we watched Bobby's funeral train passing thru the country...playing The Navy Hymn at each stop...and i will, did, and will always admire Ted for his ability to speak at all during Bobby's funeral...no one knows what anyone goes thru, unless they walk in their footsteps...i won't ever judge him...others may, it's their right and priviledge so to do...but i won't....

Ted Kennedy did some rather amazing things, not the least of which was being I guess the third-longest serving senator in our history (number one was Strom Thurmond, if I recall, and his politics were um, somewhat different from Mr. Kennedy's). His failure to get universal health care enacted during his lifetime is testament to the degree to which business groups own congress (whether it gets enacted in his absence remains to be seen).

Talk-show garbage-mouths will doubtlessly slag him merely for being a prominent Democrat. I was pissed off at him in the early 80's for getting behind an odious piece of legislation called S. 1722 ("Grandson of S. 1", or the grandfather of the USA PATRIOT Act. The Village Voice ran feature articles on it back in the day).

Oh, and in the early 70's, the National Lampoon got into trouble for running the attached mock advertisement (Volkswagen threatened to sue).

Yeah, Izzy. I wasn't meaning for you to take this personal and it doesn't seem you have. My issues with the nature of the forum in the recent past stem from people feeling like everyone has to agree with everything. It's a bit pointed to say "Good riddance", but hey... that's his opinion. And if he holds special memory for you growing up, that's yours to embrace. But everyone is welcome to their opinion of a public topic and he didn't say "Izzy, you're such an idiot for liking him." So as long as it sticks to the topic, let people say what they will. Closing the thread for a "negative" comment serves nothing. Reading why people love him or hate him is 100X more interesting than bickering over who's being rude to a public figure they've never met. Exchange some ideas, even if they're heated.

I agree. There is no reason to close the thread as long as members are not villifying one another.

uh i was being sarcastic when i said i predicted the closing of this thread...everyone is entitled to his or her opinion...and i respect that...Nerrad, i've already been called an idiot for liking Ted..not here but elsewhere...i was the only one who took up for him...that's how i am...if i like someone, i will fight for that person, despite the overwhelming responses against him or her...

I agree...it is fascinating to read why you either do or don't like him...o yes he made a major mistake back in the late sixties..i do not nor will i ever condone what he did then..but personally...and this is just my idea...i believe that in part, he decided to work for the country to make some small amends...not for her life...nothing could atone for her life..but maybe he felt that somehow by working for others, he might, in time, be forgiven...i don't know...as usual, i'm babbling..

and Nerrad i know you well enough to know if you were attacking me for real or not..

Also just because he is dead, people shouldn't suddenly change their minds about him and declare him a saint etc...to me that borders on hypocrisy...same as with Michael Jackson...those that continually had attacked and accused him of this and that, suddenly were calling him an icon, the most important modern music star of the day etc...that also is hypocrisy..

and that's why, although i called maniac a dickhead..he knew i meant it lovingly...maniac has always not liked Kennedy...and why should he change, just cuz Kennedy is dead...

Good. And...

Exactly.

ok ok...my sister just told me the funniest or saddest thing...her husband did not know that Edward and Ted Kennedy were the same person...and he has his Master's...in music though...he also thought Hawaii was off the east coast...sighs...

well, anyone who knows me knows i LOVE to rub it in... and this thime is no exception soooo, I SECOND YOUR STATEMENT! The only bad part of it is now they're going to try even harder to push that debacle of a healthcare plan saying "It was what Teddy would have wanted". Well boohoo, Im sure if he had any sense left his final thoughts would have been of ol MarryJo. Hopefully thats the first one he sees on the other side! I do feel bad for his loved ones what with loosing someone and all, but for HIM I have no sympathy. *end of rambling*

Whatever crimes he got away with while alive he will have to reckon with when he meets his maker. Aside from that, I'll just say I admired his dedication to this country and to the continuation of it's democratic way of life.
