WHOA WHOA WHOA EVERYBODY CHILL THE FUCK OUT!
You mind giving me a chance to EXPLAIN before we start a goddamn flame war over this?! I was out till 6 this morning with nerds, I've been asleep until now, so hold on!
Now...
I. Paragraph I
For the past week and a half I've been under a lot of pressure to post my collection of pics by everybody who went to NEST. UNLIKE most of those people, I was taking pictures all weekend and as such, I was bound by a much stricter code of confidence than the others...and since this code of privacy is based on the honor system and not actual enforcement by NEST team, I have to hold myself in check: I have to be even more careful with my photo collection that others.
The intro paragraph that you read was designed to antagonize people who WENT to NEST, not people who DIDN'T because they've been the ones who've been PMing and IMing me "Pics plz NAO" for a week. It was designed to get them excited so the 1 photo joke would irritate THEM, not anybody else. Apparently that backfired.
II. The PICTURE
Now I do agree in principle that some of the pics should have been at least visible to the forum and my original plan was to pic the safest photos with some of the most visible people here: people who make no attempt at all to conceal their faces (LeeAllure, Mondy, Euphoricy and Skipadeedoodah for instance)...and I did in fact post some of those, but before signing off for the night I conferred with a high-ranking member of the NEST administrative council to go over the post and make a ruling. This person stated politely but in no uncertain terms that any posts of ANY NEST photos would be in violation of the heretofore privacy agreement and that they should not be here period. The photo above was approved because there were no faces in it. Considering that it was a good-hearted jab at Natural Tickler as well as a visual joke, I thought it worked.
But my original plans were overridden by NEST administration in the interests of security. Sorry, but as I'm sure Myriads can appreciate...I gave my word to NEST team so I have to stick to it.
III. The LAST PARAGRAPH
Now, apparently I'm not as well known here as I thought because anybody who knows me knows that if there's anything mean-spirited about me, it gets vented in the General Discussion forum (usually when me and kis 123 go at it) and is not manifested in pranks on people anywhere else.
Now NEST receives a lot of flack every year because its size and population are such that it creates an sense of exclusion and cliquishness to the people who don't make it, and this is probably what fttickler thought I was doing. I've never done it before and I still haven't done it now; I don't play that "neener neener neener" crap with people.
Thanks for defending me Skippy, you are right about my intent, but fttickler and Myriads are right about the tone: it comes off wrong and gives the wrong impression. The last paragraph was a combination of my contribution and the insistence of the aforementioned NEST administration member...
...I was informed to make it ABSOLUTELY CLEAR that only NEST attendees were allowed to view the photos at all, regardless of the safety of their content, in order to preserve the strict privacy and confidentiality of the people who went. I didn't agree with the STRINGENCY of it, but had to comply because of my commitment. That line about having to be a NEST attendee to see the photos was added later and forced me to change my approach to finishing the post.
But because the opening paragraph had already set up the NEST attendees, I tried to make the final paragraph fit the "BWAHAHAHHAHAHAHA" tone of the first...I did this because the goal was to antagonize the people who WENT to NEST who'd been bugging me for pictures, NOT the people who were NOT in attendance.
I thought that people on both sides would be able to follow this and interpret the tone correctly, but I miscalculated. So I'm sorry about all the bad blood this provoked, but I thought that everybody knew what page I was on, and would understand that the privacy issues were greater than I originally imagined and had an effect on what was seen. I tried to turn it into an in-joke, but it instead turned into a more broad spectrum antagonism. That wasn't what I had planned.
So, in the end, the pictures have been ruled off-limits to non-NEST attendees, this thread derailed in a horrible fashion but nowhere near as bad as it could have been had I posted actual pictures here, and ultimately no one is going to be happy with how this turned out. The only consolation I can offer is that it was all unexpected and accidental.
And other than that, I don't know what else to say except to PLEASE put the flame war out before it starts and chalk it up to another case of Altamont Syndrome.
