Bridget Backstory and further discussion
DON'T READ IF YOU CAN'T TAKE THINGS SERIOUSLY!
(Maybe I'm just trying to end the quarrel, who knows, I don't want this thread to die.)
Without falling into any side with the Bridget thing, I blame the creator of Bridget for the whole initial confusion and further madness. I mean...I play and own Guilty Gear XX, GG Isuka, AND the one on the PSP, and in EVERY game Bridget is voiced by a girl. (Actually the voice files are just recycled to the next game)
Quote wiki.com:
"Despite the character's name, appearance, and female voice actor, Bridget is actually male. The reason for his feminine and, at times, androgynous appearance, is that he is the second of twin boys born in a village where twins of the same gender are said to bring bad luck. To hide this fact, he was raised as a girl.
In the Guilty Gear XX, Bridget becomes a bounty hunter, not because he needs the money -- his father is referred to as a "multimillionaire" in his profile -- but because he wishes to prove he is not bad luck to his village and to his hopeful, loving family."
After doing a google search, with keywords "same gender twins bad luck" all searches that came up with a philosophy of same gender twins bringing bad luck was linked to an explanation of Bridget's storyline, not as an actual village in real life or real life culture. In other words, the whole thing sounds completely made up. (The only thing I can think of is the story of The Man in the Iron mask, but in that case it was for royalty reasons, and he was in prison, not raised as a girl.)
And yet...all the artists and hentai artists continue to draw Bridget with extreme feminine features (cute girly face, eyelashes) as if to draw even further confusion on purpose. Yet, make a manga in which Helena gives Bridget a footjob and suddenly you feel sick. (Yes, there IS such a hentai, I believe it was posted in this thread! Back then, no one said anything about him)
I think I even remember watching an episode of Inyuasha, and there is this female villian that really seems to like him, (at least I think it's a chick, female voice actor, check. Boobs, check.) Yet both Inyuasha AND Kagome both relate to her as a "him," with no reaction from either the girl, Inyuasha, or Kagome with gender confusion.
Another well known one is Ranma 1/2. If you check the credits for the English voice acting, the same actor who voices female Ranma also voices the male Ranma in a lower voice. (Until further down the series, I think it changes to two actors, male and female) Yet in the Japanese voice credits, they are both different actors, a male plays the male, female plays female. Why only the Japanese?
Probably the most famous one is one particular Cowboy Bebop episode, in which after Faye has a drink date with a who would be bounty, she waits to he gets in the shower to kill him. She pulls the shower curtain and then...of course, breasts, on a man body.
(And then theres one called "Frantic, Fustrated, and Female", otherwise known F3, and unfinished hentai with only three episodes. Shame, it actually had an intresting storyline. I won't mention what goes on in the last episode but if you seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about.)
Bottomline, even though I like anime, and I'm not saying I dislike Japanese (my ex girlfriend was Japanese), but I do find it strange that there are quite a few animes that show gender confusion. Not to the point of showing if someone is bisexual or not, but the fact that they throw so many male AND female references at the person that you dunno WTF he...she...or "IT" is.
With so many examples I just named, who knows. We could of just as easily of posted male feet, besides Bridget, within the past 160+ pages and we don't even know it. But are those pics bothering us? No. Do you enjoy the fact that they are female? I would think so. Only once we find out that it is was actually male do we feel...slighted. So because of the above examples in anime character profiling, unfortuantely the posting of male feet might happen in the future by mistake, in fact there are some previous pics here that someone posted (I think one of them was a vidcap of Full Metal Alchemist) but no one really went rowdy. So please, don't get over excited about it if it happens again. If these were REAL pics and not anime however, THEN I proabably would start protesting.
