Ask Drewskee A Question....

I think the Los Angeles area is having the big problems, that is where I see most of the people are reporting on the national level. Are you watching CNN about rescuing a dog?

I never watch the news. I suck.

What's your favorite hip hop instrumental of the moment? 🙂

What's your favorite hip hop instrumental of the moment? 🙂

Holy shit, it's really impossible for me to say. I listen to so much hip hop in general, and I often find myself listening to a lot of instrumentals on YouTube of songs that originally have vocals. On top of all that, I constantly have beats playing in my head all the time.

To be fair, though, at work lately we've been playing some selections from Pete Rock's 2 instrumental albums PeteStrumentals and The Surviving Elements (from 2001 and 2005, respectively). Check 'em out! 😀

^I'll have to think of it, as he does not post on a regular basis.^

However you could go to the West Coast Gathering Thread.

I'm actually on the mailing list for the Bay Area gatherings organized by the TMF user LindyHopper. So far I haven't been able to attend any gatherings either due to distance (they are usually held in the North or South Bay, and I don't drive), my erratic work/sleep schedule, and/or my own nervousness. I do hope to attend a gathering one day, though.

I will 😀. I do love most Pete Rock's beats. It's cool to be able to discuss hip hop instrumentals...I don't have a lot of folks in my circle that get down with them like I do.

These are pretty strong favorites of mine right now, have you heard them before?

I'm always down for sharing some hip hop instrumentals. 🙂

I have heard the Jake One joint before; that whole album is dope and it comes with a bonus disc with the instrumentals! 😀

The Ayatollah one is new to me, but I like it. It's very soulful. I will have to check out more of his stuff.

That is sweet, I've got to get that Jake One disc 😀. Ayatollah did some Mos Def beats on Black on Both Sides. I like a lot of his work.

What's the best live show you've ever been to? I've only been to one as an adult, and that was Blueprint (RJD2 was not there 🙁, but Blueprint still performed some of the Soul Position stuff 🙂).

I actually have yet to attend a real concert, but I've been to a couple small free live hip hop shows. I saw a local hip hop band (yes, with live instrumentation) called the Crown City Rockers, as well as Planet Asia with Little Brother (without 9th Wonder, though he was still part of the group at that time). I remember enjoying myself, but it was so long ago and so short that I don't really remember any details. 🙁

Props on getting to see Blueprint live! 😀

Dude! Props to you for getting to see Crown City, Planet Asia, and ... Little Brother :redheart: (last album for them together this year 🙁 ). (I don't remember much about the Blueprint concert 'cept rockin' my face off :jester: )

Got any artistic skillzzzz?

I wish I did. With all the music (specifically hip hop) I listen to, people are surprised that I can't even freestyle. Ultimately, I would love to at least be able to learn how to make beats and be a producer. I just really don't know how to get started, nor do I have a whole lot of free time and or/patience for it.

I feel you. I contemplated trying to get into production myself, but I don't have time to learn the software programs.

Well, I know about the music, but what other hobbies do you have/what other kinds of things do you love to do? 🙂

This may sound kinda sad, but my only real hobby or interest is music. I don't play an instrument or anything, but I just love listening to music and discovering new stuff that I haven't heard before and adding to my collection. It's very therapeutic for me.

Other than that, as vague as it sounds I just enjoy being around good and fun people, having a good time and making people laugh (through tickling or otherwise). 😛

Nothing sad about that. Appreciation of the music is as important as the making of the music :redheart::chill:. If everybody was an artist, there'd be no one to love what artists do. I love the hunt for new music. I listen to music so much these days, I rarely turn on the tv anymore 🙂

:scared: What?!?! You like to have a good time and make people laugh?? Now that's just crazy :jester:

Alright...favorite movies? 😀

Yeah, I very, VERY rarely watch TV anymore. It's so awful these days. Music is a much better way to occupy one's time, I believe. 😀

As for the movies, I think I may have answered this before, but what the hell? I love gangster/crime dramas the most, with my favorites including the Godfather movies, Goodfellas, Casino, Scarface, The Boondock Saints, The Usual Suspects, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Menace II Society and New Jack City. But I enjoy pretty much all kinds of movies. Some other favorites of mine include The Breakfast Club, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Forrest Gump, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Friday, Superbad, The Shawshank Redemption, Clerks and The Silence Of The Lambs. There are so many more, though.

Nice picks 🙂.
