Do you play Chess?

Indeed I do! 🙂 A long time ago I even participated in this national chess tournament for 10-year-olds. You played as a team representing your individual school, and me and my classmates made it all the way to the national final in Stockholm where we ended in 9th place overall. It was loads of fun! 😀

Been a while since I was a member of a chess club though, these days I just play a random game once in a while.

I mostly just pick out my deck of cards when I'm playing drinking games. But there's nothing wrong with that, right? 😉

I'm not sure what the games are called, except for one which would translate as "The Pyramid" in English. Another one we do is pretty much a memory game; you get like 7 or 8 cards and you have to memorize them and in what order they come. Then you challenge each other by claiming that you have certain cards, being allowed to bluff and whatnot.

When we're too drunk do understand the relatively complicated rules of the above games we just play poker, and the loser(s) have to drink. 😀

A bunch of Germans I met in the Dominican Republic (go figure 😀) introduced us to a great drinking game called "blow the bottle", lol. Ever heard of that one? It involves a deck of cards 😉

Never heard of it! 😱 Although I must admit that I very recently started "refining" my alcohol-consumption by introducing card-games, so I am a bit of a noob still. 😀

You balance a deck of cards on an empty beer bottle. Each person must blow cards off of the top of the deck, while keeping the deck itself intact on top of the bottle. A successful "blow" means the others must take a swig/sip from their beer. However, if you knock the deck off... you must finish the remainder of the drink in front of you.

I'd try that out, but both me and my drinking buddies lose our coordination pretty much right away. 😛 That beer bottle wouldn't be very long-lived, and I'm tired of cleaning up broken glass when I'm hungover! XD

lol, yes, I've answered that a couple of times already, but I don't mind doing it again. 😛 It was the Student Council at my university that forced me to. I wanted to participate in a competition where all the guys were supposed to grow a beard till our next exam (sort of like the playoff beards they grow in hockey and other sports) and they felt I had an unfair advantage if I didn't start over from scratch. Later in the evening, once the exam is done and over with, we will all meet up at a pub in town and the girls in our class will decide who has the best beard. The winner gets a razor and 10 Swedish Kronor, which would be the equivalent of $1.25. 😀

Yeah, that happens sometimes unfortunately. 🙁 I tend to just go back to bed when I feel I'm having a day like that. XD

Your opinion on Carl Gustav Rehnskiöld?

He pretty much lived to see the peak and fall of the Swedish Empire, being right in the thick of it too! He must have experienced a lot of amazing things during his lifetime, and apparently he made quite an impression on Peter the Great during his Russian captivity. I can't say if he's one of the GREATEST military leader Sweden has ever had, but he's certainly one of the most experienced. 🙂

Well I don't think a lot of people these days know who he is, but as the Reduction made by King Charles XI is viewed as something positive and Patkul opposed it I can't say he's viewed in a positive light... He wasn't exactly loyal either, never working for the interests of Sweden in the first place, and then he defected. The main reason that the people of his time hated him was because he was the man behind that big alliance against Sweden during the Great Northern War, but I suspect you might know that already.

Given the role he played in the war I think King Charles XII at the time was justified to execute him - even though the way they did it was pretty fucked up, if you excuse the language. But they basically tied him to a wheel and broke all his limbs before they cut his head off...

Of course, it should be noted that I do not approve of capital punishment in modern days, but back then that was they way in which they dealt with traitors. So yeah, justified.

I'm just majoring in history. 🙂 All university students get basic financial support from the state, and since I'm still living at home (I have my own floor on the attic, but my parents don't force me to rent it) it's enough money even without me having to take study loans or work.

I used to work as an IT-technitian at the Gothenburg University, but that was a couple of years ago. Haven't thought about a part-time job yet, but I might look into it over the summer.
