Happy Birthday, John.

Living On Borrowed Time recorded autumn 1980, never completed

Unknown tune home recording, late 1980..... John always was a great whistler....

Here are two:

and

So poignant. He puts those two songs out....and is gone less than a month later. What a waste. He was finally in a happy state of mind, with everything to live for, as these songs (and all the others from that period) clearly show. I still can't believe it.

I'm a 80's child and to me their are so do many gd songs from the 80's its hard to choose lol
Got to be any number of bon Jovi songs right? They were gd

Echo & The Bunnymen - "The Killing Moon"

Album: Ocean Rain

Released on: 5 - 3 - 1984

U2 - "With or Without You"

Album: The Joshua Tree

Released on: 3 - 9 - 1987

With U2, for me and my friends at the time, it's got to be "Gloria", nothing ever came close. It's got that brilliant, beautiful fadeup for an intro, the high energy verses and the gorgeous chorus. Then a coda section. Four perfect sections that all fit together seamlessly. The Edge is particularly great on it, and Bono at his best, before he became such a poser. "I Will Follow" had come out the year before, but this was the one that really set them apart. Oddly enough, the album this is from, "October", is really not their best at all, nothing comes close to the opening track.

Pays homage to The Beatles, also, in the intro, by using the "Ticket To Ride" beat. Happy Birthday John! lol.

If we keep it one video per post, the thread pages will load faster, just sayinnn

No they won't! Lol! That has nothing to do with how fast the pages load and btw you've posted more that one at a time. Let's not be hypocrites.

I have. I made a Halloween playlist last year with a ton of songs and it takes ten years to load. Other times besides that too I know. So I been tryna do just one video per post lately. Im not super technologically inclined though, so I could be wrong.

I'm going way back to his early days with the Beatles, that's the stuff I like the best. Happy Birthday John you sarcastic prick!

Also, you might not know this one; it's the 12" version of "Wonderland" which is the only way I'VE ever listened to it. The drumming is fucking AMAZING! Astounding! If you're a drummer, do not miss this one.

Isn't there a 60s thread

I'm confused. You wrote that under my U2 post. Whaaaaa???? 😀

Let me try and figure this out: is it that you object to posting 1980 John Lennon songs? I can tell you this definitively: John Lennon's murder cast a HUGE shadow over the WHOLE 80s, as anyone who lived through the time period will tell you. In some ways, it was the BEGINNING of the 80s. It was front page news, the crime of the decade, it was a total constant.

The 60s, in general, cast a huge shadow over the 70s, 80s, AND 90s. They never went away, not in the States, anyways. I mean, The Grateful Dead were the biggest concert moneymakers in the late 80s/early-mid 90s in the USA. Now there's something you don't see in the (always-wrong) 80's/90s recreations; all the people dressed as hippies and wearing tie-dyes, or denim jackets with the "Dark Side Of the Moon" cover painted on the back, or the Zeppelin blimp, etc. You saw that more than you saw people wearing Mohawks and cool, edgy hairstyles. When you did, you were a freak! I was totally "new-waved" out, was following all the stuff getting imported over from the UK (literally, you'd look for the Jem Import sticker on the album cover), or the stuff on smaller American labels (including early rap, and what's now called post-punk,no-wave, etc etc....all the subgenres of the subgenres, lol....it was all just rock and roll to me, and still is)

The Doors, they're another one, they had a huge resurgence in the 80s, bigger than they had been remembered in the 70s. Velvet Underground, too, though that started in the 80s with the release of "V.U." in, I think, 1984.and hit it's zenith in the 90s. You had all the Vietnam movies. Stuff like "The Big Chill". etc etc.

Then CDs came out, and all that music got re-released, so then there was that. The release of the Beatles on CD in 1987 was, like, in the news. They put out four at a time over the course of the year, and every time they released a batch, there'd be another news story.

Check it out! Look what I just found! Ha! This is what I'm talking about! And look at how they marketed CDs to us, vs. vinyl. That's a whole other post, all the lies that they told about CDs to get people to switch over, lol. And look how 70s U.S. dudes are still looking, even in '87. 200 cds sold out in two hours. It was this that rejuvenated the music business, which was in a slump, and kept it afloat, right through the 90s, and beyond. Reissue, reiussue, reissue.

Aha, here's another one, with my old friend Barb Fenwick!!!!!! (towards the end) Haven't seen her in years! She was great!!!! Ha! What a blast from the past!

Anyways.....wow.....that's a rush!.......hopefully you enjoyed going down memory lane with me! I know, to this day, and throughout my whole life, going back to when I was little, I will always pump someone older than me for info about the times they lived through, especially as it pertains to music culture. And if your comment wasn't directed towards me...nevermind! And if it was.....please explain! 🙂">

🙂" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350">" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350">" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350">

Here's a real weird one, especially when it keeps changing between a straight feel and a kind of shuffle feel. Gets pretty trippy!
