Best Songs of the 80's

The Cars- Drive (1984)

One of my favorite songs from them.

Will Smith - I think I can beat Mike Tyson

I love early Will Smith for the storytelling, wit, and lightness of it. A couple of my favorite moments from this are Smith rhyming "thing" with the Ding-Ding of the bell at 2:55, and Mike Tyson's happy dance at 3:40.

Chet Baker - "If I Should Lose You" (1985)

His second solo, after Paul Bley's, is particularly nice. Interesting to hear his trumpet playing in later years, post-getting his teeth knocked out, it's really fat in this one, and spitty at times, then...suddenly....clear as a bell.

Thanks! Didn't know this one!

It doesn't get more 80s than Chet Baker singing Elvis Costello's "Almost Blue" at the end of "Let's Get Lost", just a couple of months before he got himself killed! Intense, one doesn't want to go to the grave not having seen this performance (or that film).

Lately I've been listening to freestyle music from the eighties. Tears shed, Let the music play, fantasy girl among others. I love that music.

We had a friend OD a few weeks ago and found this song at the same time. It’s his anthem. I suck and still don’t know how to embed the video, but here’s the link. That synth though! So tasty.

Oh my god, so so sorry to hear that, dear friend, so sad and sorry to hear that. I hope you guys are doing ok.

(the synth is tasty on that track!)

Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble - "Riviera Paradise" (1989)

Aw, great choice, always loved this one, so beautiful. I always saw "Riviera Paradise" as the (more obscure, but equally gorgeous) sequel to my other favorite Stevie Ray track, Lenny.

...and, ironically enough, I came here to post the one-minute, reflective "Too Much Too Soon" by the doomed Johnny Thunders. Sure wish Johnny could have gotten himself together....and your friend too, tklee88. My sincerest, deepest condolences, mi amiga, truly. Too much, too soon. :dropatear
