I don't see any pattern...looks random as would any cross section of people. Very disappointing...no clues as to why we're wired this way from these answers. Perhaps if we had more data it would be statistically significant, but it looks bleak for using this as an avenue to evaluate our fascination.

Nothing major or deadly. Don't worry. I have FM/CFS (Fibro-myalgia/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). Basicly it's just a big pain in the arse. I've had it for quite a while. But, it's gotten worse in the last couple of years. The main thing that keeps me from working a regular job is the fact that I'm constantly getting dizzy spells and sometimes end up falling on my face without warning. That's actually why I haven't gone back into doing home care. Kinda hard to keep a patient on their feet when you aren't even sure you'll stay on your own. Ya know? Can't risk their well-being by hoping that "I" won't fall. Aside from that is just a bunch of constant annoying stuff like muscle and joint pain, lowered immune response and not sleeping. It's actually kinda fun. NOT!

Disappointing ? Because we're obviously normal ? The only skewed elements of identifiable personality traits I've noticed within the community are [1] slightly higer levels of intelligence and [2] obviously higher levels of courtesy.

Don't even <I>think</I> about that "more data" and "statistically significant" stuff. There will always be some idiot (with or without a Ph.D., it doesn't matter) who is out to "prove" something (i.e., grind an axe) who will in due course "discover" a "correlate" between members of the community and some behavior and/or mental state that is either physically dangerous or which disqualifies an individual from something important in society. The putative "correlate" will be totally spurious, at best, and most likely will be completely false.

You don't have to agree with any of this, but if you ignore it, you will find yourself living to experience it without warning.

We are trying to evaluate this fascination? If we do "figure it out", then what? Houston, do we have a problem? 🙂

Seriously, anyone who knows me knows that I enjoy figuring things out and solving problems. For me, however, this is different.

I spent so many years hiding this fascination because I thought that it and I were weird. Finding so many like minded people has convinced me otherwise. I am content to simply enjoy! Besides, I thought it most likely that like so many other things, all walks would be represented. 🙂

I don't think this need evaluation as to WHY we have it. But, if we had more data on people's interests/hobbies and how they like to tickle, I suspect some patterns may show up a bit. We might find that a doctor or medic is more analytical, an artist or writer is more playful....whatever.

I don't think it's a necessary study to do. But, it could be fun...especially if we had a segment of the study where we used test subjects to illustrate the points. 😛

I'm a police officer. Well actually I'm an MOD police officer (as opposed to being in a country constabulary for the Home Office) which means my duties are the same as a glorified security guard.

Statistically Speaking...

I'm always hopeful that there's SOME other common traits "we" /the brethren may possess...as you say it seems that there may be a slightly above average intelligence level, but its all relevant in that the only segment we're looking at is at "least" computer literate and hence that fact alone may skew the perception towards that conclusion. There may be an equal number of tkphiles that are unable to master the basics of computer use, but how would we ever evaluate that number..lol?
Guess it doesn't really matter, but it would have been interesting to find out that none of were musically inclined or we had stunted social skills or fear of mice or SOMETHING! Guess we'll have to wait on more advanced DNA research...
Meanwhile, keep those job descriptions coming, guys and gals! It's good reading ...still no politicians, thank goodness...lol.. Q

So far only one armed service member. I represent the US Army Field Artillery. Ive been doing this for 6 years now. Believe it or not, while I was stationed in Korea a few years back I met some other ticklers in the army... They have NO IDEA about US as a whole! Hell, I borrowed 6 cal-star tapes from one guy, he never knew we were on the internet!
