I feel we try too hard to shun children from anything or everything that is bad. Life is not cake walk free of awful/evil people/things.

This. What on Earth do kids have to do with legalizing prostitution, other than being an unwilling excuse for the perpetuation of outdated Puritan morality?

As someone who works in education, we do an absolutely godawful job of informing kids about what they should be worried about vs what they shouldn't. People searching for consensual sex with adults should be at the bottom of our list of dangers. (Worth pointing out, for the record, that kids are harmed by parents and siblings more often than anyone else, and are most at risk of injury/death when being driven somewhere by a parent. Kind of makes any "think of the children" argument fall apart.)

Legalizing prostitution has no drawbacks in a modern, sex-positive world.

When you legalize something, you are also legitimizing it in the eyes of a child. It's much harder to teach a child that something is not acceptable when it's legal. I get the "sex is normal" argument but sex means more to a lot of people than a transaction and its good for children (at an appropriate age) to learn that.

Also, if legalizing prostitution is so great, how many folks would be happy to hear from their sister or daughter that they were getting into protitution? We can't act like prostitution doesn't very often damage the lives of those who go into it. Legalizing won't change most of that.

I think there's quite a big different between going into sex work out of choice and being forced into it. If I knew someone who wanted to go into prostitution out of choice, was of legal age, fully-informed about the risks etc. then I wouldn't have a problem with it. I might be wrong, but I kind of assumed legalising it would make it harder for the sex workers to be exploited.
