Florida's election system still not fixed!

Ah. Krokus, I believe it's possible that you misunderstand his reference. Do please let me clarify it for you.

Y'see, in the last election, Florida managed to screw up the count of votes in all districts, and this debacle was newsworthy for months. Ignorable, of course, if you don't watch televised or printed news, naturally.

Florida, then, acknowledged that they needed to correct/fix the failings of their voting system.

THAT is what that article references. Here's an excerpt, to help clarify this for you:

Fla. Polls Report Serious Problems
Tue Sep 10,10:14 PM ET

By BRENDAN FARRINGTON, Associated Press Writer

MIAMI (AP) - Florida's first big test of its new elections system turned into a nightmare Tuesday as polling stations opened late and problems cropped up with the touchscreen voting machines brought in after the 2000 debacle. Hundreds of would-be voters were turned away.

The link provided by amk714 is a rather sad article where the writer, mentioned above, delineates just such failings.

Hope this helps!

Florida didn't screw up the voting system, the Database company hired by Brother Jeb removed something like 30,000 voters from the registry for the following reasons:

They were black (I believe that black voters in Florida are almost overwhelmingly Democrat)

They were once in prison (but have since had their voting rights restored, only to be surgically removed by Republicans)

They shared a birthday or name with a felon (such a logical explanation for not being allowed to vote!)

This information comes from Chapter 1, 'A Very American Coup', from the book Stupid White Men. The sources for this chapter are articles in 'The Nation' and the 'Los Angeles Times'.

I personally think that's why Jeb even ran for govoner in Florida. I think we're like number 3 for the highest number of electoral votes. He never lived here before he was elected, George Senior owns a house here, which made him eligible to run.

Actually, g-man, Florida has the fourth highest number of electoral votes; California, New York, and Texas are the top three, though I think the order from #1-3 might have been changed since the last census (CA, TX, and NY) Now it's being reported that Janet Reno might challenge the voting, since she's behind Bill McBride in the primary. So I guess even members of the same party challenge each other when there's a vote count dispute 😛

Here in Orange County, they had a vote for a half cent sales tax increase to go to the schools. The major opponent to the tax is now filing an injunction to have the ballots thrown out. It's all just sour grapes. People just can't lose graciously anymore.

I live in Orange County...California! 😛

the problem is the democrates

no matter what system is in place, the whinny dems will piss and moan if they don't get their way.
in america a person with a felony conviction is stripped of voting rights, could be these people were wrongly given their voting rights back, and were "caught".

Uh, Steve, is this really you, and not someone hackin' in as you? The press showed several incidences where this was mishandled, LEGALLY, and needed handling again, and FWIW, I could swear that the results, Presidentially, were for the Republican party, and not the Democratic party. Let's see...

...Bush got into office because of this...

...it wasn't corrected until AFTER he was confirmed...

...hmm, them Democrat fellows would have to be the most confusing subversives. Hey, wait, it was found to be a state problem, and not a political or criminal issue. Democrat conspiracies and voting criminals?

Steve, is that REALLY you?

If I'm not mistaken, the guy in Orlando (Orange County in Florida) who is "pissing and moaning" over the sales tax election IS a Republican!!!

They fight! And bite!
They fight and bite and fight!
Fight fight fight! Bite bite bite!
The Democrat and Republican Show!

Adapted from the "Itchy and Scratchy Show" on "The Simpsons" (both trademarked, copyrighted, and very funny)

Maybe if REPUBLICANS were just a wee bit more ETHICAL there wouldnt be a problem..... :sowrong: :sowrong:

Maybe if Dubya didn't cheat his way to power there wouldn't be a problem.

I was wrong, it was closer to 173,000 voters removed from the registry. When GWB wins by 537 votes after removing 173,000 voters from the registry, it kinda makes him look a bit more like the fraud that he is. Hail to the thief.

If we really wanted to mess up the election system around the country, all we need is for every registered voter to show up. There is no way the polling places could handle it.

The most unethical people in florida are the ones in Dade and Broward counties and guess what they are democrats. Until the corruption in these counties is gotten rid of you can spend all the money in the world and the elections still won't come out right. That is my humble opinion.

For a somewhat humorous look on this there is the following article:

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/4062623.htm

That article was hilarious! My only problem with it is, that if we used paper ballots with a box next to the names, as the article suggested, it would take days to count them all by hand. And that would just be for a local elction. It would take weeks or even months, to count all those votes. Not to mention, anyone who ever tried to grade a multiple choice test would know that the same problems we had with the punch cards will occur here too.

"Which one did he vote for, he marked it BETWEEN the two boxes!"

"This guy marked 2 boxes!"

"This guy erased and re-marked so many times, that I can't tell which one he really voted for!"

How about a computerized, high-tech version of Dave Barry's solution? 🙂

see just like i said..

a bunch of whinny liberal dems!
biggles you aren't even american so i'll not address you.
as for the others, who was it that went to court? it was the democrates! and i'm glad convicted felons were kicked off the voting roles! and fyi; a state wide re-count was finaly done in florida, paid for by a couple of the news papers. the results? bush picked up over 1000 more votes!
another thing that pissed me off, how the domocrates tried to disinfranchise the military votes. these guys, and gals are over seas doing their duty, and what happens? the liberal democrates try to have their voteing balots thrown away!
and for all your info. here in illinois we have the same punch system that florida had. and in the 2000 election several 100,000's balots were thrown out due to chad problems, it's what the law says to do! same as in florida. it's up to the voter to make sure their balot is done correctly. thats the big difference between you whinny dems, and us republicans, we believe in personal responsibility, and you believe in sueing if you don't get your way!

I'm not sure what's more disappointing - one lone man whining about the bad ole Democrats, or the fact that the thread continued when it's just another weak attempt to start a fight. All reasoning Republicans, you'll note, aren't touching this.

My Democratic Americans, do you really need to respond to a man whose stance blames lateralist sidings for a state's failure to properly administrate what is a NON-PARTY voting standard? Do my Republican Americans do such?

Steve, do note that I find this disappointing, but that I still respect ya as a contributor here. You ARE callin' names to one side of my people, here, and I find that unfortunate. It's an opinionated bit of flame-bait, and has won the expected response.

I do know you're capable of better, and have seen such even on AMT. I know y'ain't have a swell time right now, and figure that you're ventin' a bit, and those readin' your previous apology thread know such too.

Alright, carry on...

How about a "reasoning democrat" touching this. Like I said before I know there is a lot of corruption in florida and a lot of it is democratic. Certainly there is enough blame to go around for both parties. I think though as steve said unless you get rid of a lot of these corrupt people handling voting ballots and such you can spend tons of money and not make any improvements to the system. I also think there is a certain amount of truth for taking resposibility for your own ballot. I think as a "reasoning conservative" that this is not such a radical stance nor is elimanating corruption wherever you can legitamely prove it whether that corruption is Democratic or Republican.

It appears to me that Steve is responding to posts making accusations
of dishonesty,corruption,and/or ineptitude made by some at Republican
personages.I see no problem with pointing out the shortcomings of Democratic "forces" in this matter.I don't think it necessarily has to do with party affiliation, but there is little question about Democratic involvement in political shenanigans.

I also agree with Steve's deciding not to address a post from a foreign source. They can stick to their own affairs.

Omega....on the lighter side, how do you think a full turnout would affect the polls? It's been running about half for years now.
