Now, I'm still quite young, and I can say quite honestly that I'm still learning. A lot.
However, I take responsibility for my screw ups. I never, ever try and use such a pale excuse as 'I'm young' for something like that. Nor do I let other people try and excuse me with it. It's a horrible habit. Making mistakes is something that everybody does at every age, so I don't see why we have to make an excuse for it prior to a certain age.
It could be argued that kids make mistakes more often than adults, and that's fair. However, if they're making the same mistake over and over without learning from it, then they simply need to be fixed. They're not operating correctly as a human being. I find it pretty hard to believe that this brat hasn't disrespected someone of authority before, so obviously she's doing it because she knows she can get away with it. I think that judge knew that too.
I understand where you're coming from, but people can't be allowed to just disrespect judges in courtrooms. There's no other way to deal with that than to have consequences for those that do. We allow teachers to be disrespected in public classrooms by kids, and look where that's gotten us. Teachers that aren't respected by their kids aren't taken seriously, and simply can't teach. A judge by definition commands a seat of authority and power, and that needs to be respected.
