The Judge has the authority to do almost anything he deems appropriate.
His actions are not based upon Black letter law. Once in the position of Judge, he has a lot of discretion.
(The freedom to decide what should be done in a particular situation).
She could be charged with contempt of court or fined as she was.
The judge is neither right or wrong, the judge is merely acting within the scope of his authority.
Another judge may have simply ignored her while another judge may have been a more harsh.
A courtroom is not a place to play around. The court provides substantial justice.
It certainly is not a perfect system.
