Golden Feather Awards (but TT style)

@ kyhawkeye- Yes, of course they will be. They are essential part of what makes up the community as well. ^_^

And yes, thats true. I like your way of thinking.

@ Kalamos- This isn't Warhammer. 😛 Although I do plan to someday enter one of my models and see if I can win. ^_^

EDIT:

@ Tickle Theater- I'm just as curious as you are. No one person has control of this. I hope we can reach an accord.

I was partly serious about that: golden daemons awards are divided by category: best single char, best squad, best non-human minis, best rookie painter...

And that would somewhere to start from. So far I've seen anime art [usually fan art too], fantasy art, "everyday ppl" art, and TT user art...

Making up these categories actually tells us even who'll win them!

Take this with due care, though. 🙂
I'm NOT choosing winners beforehand, but if we gave a prize for "best art featuring TT users" Nessonite would come to mind.

If we had a "best anime fan art", you'd be the one competing...

I'm just sketching out my idea, but - again - if we asked around WHO is really interested in participating, we could even forecast the categories and likely winners.

That's why I'm saying it reminds me of Golden Daemon.

TT, whatchathink?

Yes, I know. Warhammer is pretty diverse. And thats how I see this too.

I understand what you're saying. But I'm not going to ask around. That would take too long and might not yield any results. It would be better for anyone interested to either post here or post in a later thread on this matter.

If we want to get attention though, it would be better for TT or a mod to do this. People tend to pay more attention that way.

It sounds like a good idea all things you have said.
Kalamos i do think that you should be able to have your own section art ( even if you are dead 🙂 ).
Involving more ( common LOL ) members would be nice also :
- quote of the day/week ( funniest one for example )
- the most uncommon word used in thread 😀
etc....
But TT will decide afterall i guess 🙄

... I was thinking about it...

Right now we could expect these ppl to compete:

Cheshire Cat
Nessonite
Okari
PunkyGurl
Rajee
SyDemon
Tukano

and of course:

You,
Me.

Prolly more could compete - but maybe less will actually do.

This is a start. Let's post a poll or something like that.

Let's keep in mind we would not give out actual prizes: it's just an informal acknowledgement. So ppl might participate just for fun...

The award could be no more than a gif or a personal gallery. And this should set the pace... we aren't doing it for nothing more than showing our pics and having some fun.

My 2 eurocents, on the matter.

lol, at the very least, some polls could be drawn up, first as to whether or not this is a good idea, in the opinion of the Theater goers. Then, if approved, another thread could be started with the purpose of choosing areas to focus on. But, that all requires TT stop eating his popcorn and do some admining. 😛

@ Kalamos-

I wasn't suggesting we give the winner some high honor. But there are ways to reward them non the less. In this instance I'm speaking of those that don't actually contribute material but have won in a particular category (funniest member/quote for example).

The reward would be within our means. We could give them a batch of rare pictures, they could request a picture or story from one of the artists/authors, they could be given special priviledges for a time, etc.

As far as awarding the material contributors beyond a recognition is the hard part. Take me for example. I stand a good chance of winning for strictly anime style line art. If I won, would would I get? In your example, I'd get a forum. But I already have one. So aren't I getting screwed? 😛 Kidding.

In the instances were a "winner" is already a winner what do we do about that? I hate to sound conceited about it, but it is something to think about. How do we work around something like this? I'm not the only one thats established in some form or another. Should "congradulations" suffice?

@ alf- You're catching on. We need ideas and categories like that. ^__^

@ HDS- I must have missed your post somehow. Perhaps it was on the next page. Anyhow, thats a good idea. We need to set the wheels in motion now that we have somewhat of a formulated idea.

... Actually I was wondering why you've proposed this idea. 🙂

You've already got a personal forum. You have a solid fan base. And I suppose you wouldn't consider "prize pics" as such - unless they came from Tickle League... 🙂

I suppose you'd go for larger recognition. Being known is good. Being well known is better...

And, of course, this applies to other artists as well.

...

We should now ask TT what kind of prize he could conceivably award.

That would give a fair measure of who would then attend.

...

Oh well. Let's think about this.

Reg's.

Yeah, all of that is true. Although it does go to show I'm not being selfish in bringing this up. I want everyone to have a share in the lime light, not just myself, and not just the contributors of material.

And in my case, an award or title of "anime artist of the month/year" or some such would be appropriate and just as satisfying. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to win in an awards event in whatever category I could run for. Everyone wants to win and/or be recogonized to that degree, modest or not. ^_^

As far as the prizes for non-material contributors, I really wouldn't know. You can't make them a mod, that would be unfair to those that supposedly earned it. And you can't exactly give them anything else. Thats why I mentioned rare pictures and requests. They're the only tangible things I can think of.

Then of course this calls the whole idea into question. Shouldn't an award just be enough? Just the fun of having gotten such an honor or recognition?

Again, the TMF has proven they can run such an event effectively and successfully, without distruption or ill will. I'm confident the same would hold true for this excellent site.

Yes: making a mod should be done on merit's or skill's basis.

At least, should... *winks at... well, I know whom I'm winking to. 😉*

I'd make an awful mod - for instance - since I'm moody, despotic and just plain mean. 😀

If you asked ME, well, I'd like to have ways to show my pics more easily.

Maybe putting a badgelike pic near my avatar might be nice. Elsewhere they assign stars. It could work the same way.

Yet... it comes dangerously close to TMF's rank system. And I don't like it too much.

Besides, it only promotes meaningless posting - as if I didn't already post OT pointless msgs... 🙂

So, how can we work it out without debasing TT?
I don't know.

If I knew, I wouldn't be asking, innit?

Thats a good idea. We could be like sheriffs or something. ^__^

As far as the TMF's ranking system, I think its ridiculous. I think it promotes banter, spam, and meaningless posts. In an indirect, perhaps subconcious way, it would make you want to post more regardless of the content of your posts. And you are right in that things like this could debase a site. But that isn't so much a concern in this topic.

The only downside I see are people competing TOO much with eachother just for a title at the end of the year. Its pretty obsessive, and isn't healthy.

As far as making a good or bad mod, it would depend on what type of site you're on. Some situations would call for you to act a certain way, and perhaps you excel in that. Although on another site it might be something that would keep you from ever getting a mod or admin. postition.

I myself have been a mod and admin. on several sites. This was either due to my qualities or my ability to get the job done effectively. Elsewhere however I might seem dominating, and a threat to any organized structure and therefore be kept out by certain 'circles'.

Alot of it has to do with how people choose to see you, rather than what you really are like. I know I've been kept from being a mod out of sheer bias in the past, but I just as easily get positions like that.

I guess what I'm saying, to make a tired point, is that it all balances out somehow. LOL ^__^

@ nessonite- Thank you for your cooperation. ^_^

How about this...
We could open a forum for these such contests. Once per month a thread could be opened up for entarnts to post their work. a couple of weeks later a poll could be added for people to vote in and the winner is decided there. Then another thread is opened for the next month.
Sounds pretty simple. It could just be a sub forum of the Images forum.

Pfft...check the frontpage. 😉 *goes back for twizzlers*

I'm totally dead. And I get no respect either.

You're both wankers. 😛 And yes you get respect, both of you do. I'll have you know it is I who gets no respect.

We have, we're just pretending we don't. 😛

Aw... if I still had a heart, it would be bleeding, now.

Never mess with your admin. Especially if he's into cruel fetishes - like tickling, spanking or pokemon breeding. 😀 😀 😀

...

Gee. Bones itch when weather changes.

Thats a good idea. 🙂

However, what about the results of an annual poll/vote? Do you think we should have anything like that, or not?

It seems to me that a monthly vote/result would be based on what people like/want/admire at the moment. It says nothing of public opinion at the end of the year. I would think having an annual award event would make the occasion more special. If the Oscars was held every month wouldn't that eventually ware it out and reduce it's importance?

Annual awards events keep in mind what a participant has done in a years time with their talents, thus giving the final decision reason and merit. This isn't to say however that one can't show one's talent in a months time. It happens all the time. However, I would think less people would participate in a monthly event due to it's frequentness. Building up the event and waiting until the end of the year (or beginning of the following) helps build anticipation as well as give the participants a forward momentum going into it.

This may just be my opinion however, and I'd like to know what everyone else thinks about it.

I'm not knocking the idea of a monthly event. I like the idea actually. But for the sake of it not getting redundant and boring, and to preserve the honor of titles or awards bestowed on our talent, perhaps we should consider other options.
