Seriously, would it be possible to have art published on some magazines?

That would be more concrete and maybe would turn profitable.

After all proposing one's art to magazine could fail.
But if a whole site backed up one's proposition, maybe it would be considered more seriously.

Actually, now that you bring that up, I had e-mailed MTJPub a while back asking if I could contribute to his magazine. However, in my e-mail I made it clear that I didn't want to draw anything too heavy or sexual but that I would like to contribute otherwise.

In reply he told me that that his magazine caters mostly to the darker aspects of tickling, and that therefore my talents wouldn't be suitable material within his magazine.

So I doubt that even if I was backed by references or my fanbase, that he or any of the other creators/distributors of those magazines would commission me.

What is? That if I don't sell out and get down and dirty with my art that I'll never get a chance like this? To hell with it. I can create my own, non-profit manga, and thats exactly what I'm doing.

I was saying that knowing what they want is something to be kept in mind.

I can understand you don't like their policy, but maybe other artists can cope with it.

Besides, there is not only TMF around. And they might change their policy, in future.

Of course other artists can cope with. They don't might drawing the tickling to the degree they and their fanbase want. I promised myself that this would be a line I would never cross no matter how demanding a genre this is. I'm just not like that and don't see tickling the same way as perhaps they do.

I won't bend, and I won't draw pornography. Yes, it is pornography, just by another name and in another form, to a lesser extent. And therefore I've sealed my fate professional speaking with any of these publications. They wouldn't want me if I asked, and its no wonder why.

Therefore, all I have left is what I already have and what I plan to do. And I do take one thing back thus far. I take back saying it would be free. I've debated many a time whether to charge or not. I don't want to charge, but realistically I might have to charge for the extra time, effort, labor, enhanced material/quality of material, etc.

Finally, who are you trying to kid? The tickling community as a whole is not going to change, so therefore the sites and/or publications won't either. I realize there are people that appriciate tickling the way I do, but we are seriously outnumbered. So much so that we are in the minority. I'm not considered profitable in a business where sexuality is so keen and essential in selling a product.

I've also seriously questioned why I'm even doing this to begin with. I don't doubt my abilities or success as an artist. I doubt the reasons why I continue. I don't even have the answers to that honestly.

Don't worry about CE, Kalamos, he just has a very strict code, which I respect him for. It makes him prone to the passionate speeches like what you just read. And we love him dearly for it. 😛

An artist who isn't going to give you exactly what you want, desires and all, isn't worth their time apparently. They shouldn't worry though, theres no lack of artists that can give them what they want.

My point is not about you, Damian - sorry, but I can't cope with the "emperor" thing. 🙂

The point is about awards and awarding a job for TMF or something like that.

I do respect personal codes. But tailoring awards around them could be asking a bit too much. 🙂

Now, WHEN we know how many ppl will be actually interested in the award thing, we will know what we should award.

Of course, if the participants boil down to you and me, it would make no sense awarding a job for TMF - IF they were interested in offering one, that is...

On the other hand, if 100 artists answered... and most of them competed for a job... it would be another matter altogether. 🙂

Sure, since you proposed the award thing, it would be improper to award something you wouldn't accept from the beginning.

I was talking about MTJpub as an example of what a magazine wants from an artist and/or expects.

This has nothing to do with the awards idea or the resulting poll.

Sorry, but you've totally taken this out of perspective and have misunderstood what I said and applied it to something else.

To clear it up, the comment about commission work was just that- commission work. It had nothing to do with this topic or thread aside from your comment about an artist being awarded a commission-type chance/offer.

I was speaking clearly within the confines of that, and not of the topic, or where its going. I apologize for any miscommunication I may have shown. I thought it was pretty clear though..

Ok....so where did the TMF and my reluctance to accept an award (which isn't true since I'd be awarded for being me despite it all) come from? Or is it that everything is tied to the TMF anyways? Thats another reason we need to break apart and become a functioning society all our own. When I look at this site and I look at the TMF, I see the TMF as the father or big brother of the community, and theres no need for that. We need to break away. Or maybe thats just my independance speaking.

Also, I didn't call you kid. That was a typo, which I've fixed. I meant to say "who are you trying to kid?" I apparently left out the "to".

Also, I have no problem with you being uncomfortable calling me emperor. Although if you're going to use my real name could you call me Damien instead of Damian?

While they are both the correct way to spell my name, they are pronounced differently (not that it would matter online really). I'm not forsaking my being half-hispanic or anything, I just prefer Damien over Damian. The only one that calls me Damian sometimes is my mother, so it feels weird for anyone else to address me that way. LOL ^_^

You guys have to keep in mind that an Artist creates from his inner talent what is in his heart for the sheer joy of creating it; as opposed to a commercial artist who creates that which will sell by popular demand. In this day and age you cant have your cake and eat it too.

As for TMF bashing and "we have to break away" and stupid posts for the sake of posting", Please don't get me started.

TMF is a forum. TT is a forum. Over half of the members here are there as well. Over half of the members here have more than one name both here and there. The community is a lot smaller than you all realize as there are not a lot of really active posters in any forum around here. "breaking off" as you say would mean making it an even smaller community. I say we need to support each of the areas in order to keep the community alive for the people "discovering" that they are not alone when they find a place to go.

Ask HDS himself about silly frivolous posts to get recognition for quantity as opposed to quality. More than a fair share of TT members have done that on the TMF.

I say that we learn to relate as a community at large and knock off the "holier than thou" attitudes that will only be the downfall of forums such as these in the long run.

Damn! Sorry I tend to babble a lot. I just want to see everyone with this particular fetish eventually come together because of our differences as it provides a healthy learning environment for us all.

Allow me to completely agree with you. I only said what I said because we need identity. I don't feel that would happen under the shadow of a site that exists pretty much as the center or core of the community. It would be nice to know we'd do just fine even if the TMF didn't exist.

I'm afraid TT is not ready yet to start off on its own.

I'd give some reason for it: first of all, TT forum does not produce any revenue.
Jeff owns TMF and can use it to advertise his vids.

Second, TMF does not provide contents, per se. It does offer links, but hosts none.
TT does host files and bandwidth costs are - proportionally - higher.

Third - and a result of the two above - TT is sometimes unaccessible during peak hours, and users sometimes resort to TMF to keep in touch.


I won't propose a way to address these issues, now.
Yet they need to be considered before we seriously think of setting out on ourselves.

I get the ominous feeling I may regret necromancing this ancient thread, but it's for a good cause that we never really tied up the loose ends for.

I've gone back and read every single page and post (there are 7 total). And I learned two things:

1.) Kalamos and I DO get along more often then we're both given credit for. Recorded history has not been kind to either of us. 😛

2.) No one was actually opposed to the idea. It just sort of fell off the radar.

I realize that some opinions have changed, and some of the things that were stated by myself and others back then would either no longer apply today and may not represent how we currently feel, etc; however, this thread is, nonetheless, still viable if we choose to make it so.

We have the awesome potential to make something really good or something that will end in complete disaster and failure.

I would hate to think however that we didn't at least discuss it one more time, albeit two years later; we may have better ideas now then we did back then.

(I also bumped this thread to prove to people in this thread http://www.tickletheater.com/showthread.php?t=29856 , that this topic DID IN FACT EXIST, and I wasn't lying or blowing smoke. 😛 )

This was intended to be a competition which people would enter voluntarily and bears no resemblance to the proposed semi-serious "awards" thread. Further, no moderator opposed the idea. It appears to have died from lack of interest.
