I know many of you don't celebrate it, but I'm going to do this anyway.

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR TO ALL HERE AT TICKLETHEATER! May your days be filled with happiness and prosperity!

Today is the first day of Chinese New Year, all the best to everyone!

Happy new [goat's?] year, Sy!

Be sure to check Nessonite's latest pics. 🙂
And congrats on your site, you might have something to tell us... like, who made those pics on it. 😀

Reg's and auguri!

Happy new year to you SyDemon, same kind of things to you too !!!!:happy::happy::happy::happy:.

It's the year of the Monkey, and since I was born in the year of the monkey, it's my year! WOOHOo!

Happy Year of the Monkey! Just thought I'll share this little something I've done. Erm...the little kualas at the corner says hi too 😀

Hey thats pretty cool!
I loves the koalas too...one of my very favorite animals 😀
I was born in 1980 so I'm a moneky too. Neat! It just occured to me yesterday that it's my year this year since I'm turning 24. 😛
The only place here that you can really go to see the Chinese New Year celebrations is in the Chinese areas of major cities. I used to go to the ones in San Francisco when I lived out there and it was really spectacular. What do you do over there, Sy?

Oh for us we have a reunion dinner on the eve of Chinese New Year, and on the 1st day itself, it's customary to eat vermicelli which is (I think) supposed to bless us. Then it's a long train of relatives visiting all the way. In tradition, it's supposed to last several days but we can practically only afford to be given the first 2 days as public holidays 😛

The year of the monkey?
Mmm...

Somebody should tell Gripped Chimp on TMF.

Hey, now I think of it, it's the year of a person I know, too! Should wish happy monkey's year. 🙂

I'm a Horse (figures, doesn't it?)...when will it be my year?

That's 10 years from now Storm Cat.

The order is:

1) Rat
2) Ox
3) Tiger
4) Rabbit
5) Dragon
6) Snake
7) Horse <--- (going 1 round) 2014
8) Lamb
9) Monkey <--- 2004
10) Rooster
11) Dog
12) Pig

so last year was supposed to be my year? if that is so, it was pure shite...was definitely not a good year for me..!!

Happy Year of the Monkey to everyone!! And now that it is the Year of the Monkey, I've got to remember to stop writing "Year of the Lamb" on my checks.

Gallodiablo

P.S. - Hey, Sy, why is it customary to eat italian food (vermicelli) on Chinese New Year?

Storm_Cat...The Zodiac has 12 symbols and they cycle through. So it was your year the year you were born, the year you turned 12, 24, 36, etc etc...

gallodiablo: Oh it's the chinese vermicelli. It's soft, tender vermicelli in a soup of either "Bak Kut", which is pork ribs, or "Ang Sao" chicken, which is chicken cooked in some ingredients (not sure of the name lol) which makes it turn red. I hope I'm not describing things wrongly lol! As to why we eat it, I have to elaborate a little more.

Usually the chinese whose origins are in the Fu Chow province eat the "Ang Sao" vermicelli because the noodles are long, which represents a blessing of long life, long periods of success, long marriages, long periods of good health, etc. Red is an auspicious colour and hence the red colour of this dish. Chinese from other provinces eat other their own special dish. Can't elaborate on them though :tounge:

HDS, my goodness you're a dragon! Being born in the year of the dragon is extremely desirable! Some couples will even try to delay the birth of the baby (if close enough that is) just to get them to be born on the year of the dragon. The dragon child possesses bravery, intelligence, charm and energy!

You can find out your Chinese Zodiac sign here.

About the Dragon child here.

Oh gee! I'm a rabbit!!! I was sure I was a cat!

...

Call me bugs...

K., the Year of the Rabbit in China is the Year of the Cat in certain other Asian countries (I believe in Japan, for example).

Being Cambodian born, I celebrate Chinese/Lunar New Year, though in fact Cambodian New Year is yet a different holiday, occuring in the spring. I personally do not much celebrate the solar New Year (Jan. 1).

Sy, interesting to hear about the vermicelli, a product that I subsist on regardless of holidays, LOL. When talking about Asian food, I often like to wink and refer to "rintek wuuk," a most exotic Kalimantanese dish which is equivalent to Chinese "gou-rou" 🙂

Luv to all,

Rintek wuuk equivalent to gou rou? You mean dog meat? If so, does that mean that the dish you mentioned is based on dog meat too?

*runs to protect her puppy dogs* First innocent stuffed animals and now this?! What next, Valerie? WHAT NEXT?!

😛

Cats...

And this sends a shiver down my spine.

ROFL, Valerie, I never thought of you as a PETA #1 enemy. 😛

HA!!! I just read that dragon description, and it only affirms my own belief in my supreme awesomness. *Struts* 😛
