I was discussing different preferences for roleplaying a little while ago on deviantart--he was more into noncon, non-pleasant scenarios, while I'm much more of a playful roleplayer.

I was wondering how many fell into which category, and what other stuff you prefer in your scenarios? Do you even like scenarios? Personally long, involved scenes can get a little complicated for me, and I like just 'acting' like normal. Not to say I'm turned off by involved fantasy scenes or anything, I just tend not too.

What other variables do you consider in your rps?

I'm not judging either, serious/playful/noncon/whatever. I totally see the appeal in all different types. I'm just wildly curious about how varied we all are.

I like both really, though I wouldn't use the word non pleasant, but I think I get what you mean. I typically lean more towards the torturous side since it's more intense and harder to come by, but the playful side is fun if you like butterflies in your tummy.

I can do everything. As long as it's all cool with my partner and nobody is underage. This includes grown people pretending to be underage. I am NOBODY'S "daddy" XD

I'm more playful. I'm most used to multi-character RPs, like those you do on social networks and such, like gaiaonline, etc. which I really enjoyed. It really helped progress my writing I find, and there's nothing like making a continuous story with multiple perspectives. But I do know about one on one roleplaying as well. I have some friends who enjoy it (again more story wise) but we do more playful stuff. Intense really hasn't factored into it.

It really depends on the person though. I'm usually willing to try almost anything at least once, knowing if either is uncomfortable we can switch or move in another direction.

I haven't really done much RP-ing. Wouldn't mind it, but getting there seems hard. I feel like I'm not around or consistent enough for a lot of them. I suppose my ideal would be like a detailed back and forth messaging where there's no time pressure, almost pen-pal like, where each entry is a little more descriptive than just a back-and-forth and carries the scenario forward.

But I don't think that's what you asked. In general, I do not like the noncon stuff. I much prefer situations where both parties are having a good time. So I tend towards the playful, sensual, teasing end of things. I would say that I "act" like myself, or at least an outgoing, aggressive version of myself comfortable with certain things. Y'know. I could see the appeal of a fantastic setting, but I'd to be doing it with someone who would be into it to help me get into the mood.

GuardedAngel's idea of being multiple characters in kind of a story is interesting too. But that also sounds like it could get complicated. Never done anything like that.

I agree with GuardedAngel's statement: it really depends on the person. I've done some story-based RPs where I took on the role of a few characters, and it was almost like a fanfiction (they were established fictional characters); I've had RPs where we'd go a long time between responses, and so would send paragraphs back and forth; and I've had the RPs where it's a "normal" real-world setting with a quick back-and-forth, usually over an instant messenger. I have different ways of RPing with different people, and really the most important thing is that we're both comfortable. I'm willing to try almost anything, though I avoid noncon like the plague and will lean more towards playful than sexual or sadistic. I also like to talk to the person outside of just tickling: find out about personalities, likes/dislikes, what's going on with their day, etc. I like to know that there's a person on the other side of it, even if I'm given vague generalities and my imagination has to do the rest of the work. *shrugs* If anything, it's good practice for my writing, and maybe I'll actually start to be as outgoing and comfortable with myself as I am on the internet. 😛

Didn't have anything in mind when I asked, LI, so your response is totally legit. Something a couple people said that I it forgot to include-I too prefer to rp with friends. People I talk to outside of just tickle-relate stuff-it can be difficult for me to open up, as a lee especially, so that trust thing is important.

That's a good point. I think that's probably something lacking a little bit here. In the past of done other kinds of RP's on other side more on the story side of things and I'd actually talk to the person as just them through messages to get to know them which made role playing with them slightly more interesting but it's been years since I've done that, but I think it would be kinda cool in this kind of environment, I mean I probably wouldn't share anything to personal here like my full name and address or anything but getting to know someone's hobbies and interest outside of just tickling would be cool.

This was exactly how I got my start with roleplaying, back in the time when everything seemed to have its own associated forum and community, and by-post roleplaying almost seemed a rite of passage for anyone playing the creative cards. I wish we had a dedicated section here for that form of roleplaying, as it seems one could really squeeze out the creative juices and slurp it all up in the most disgustingly noisy ways - but oh-so-delicious. :lol Well, we do have such a section but guess not much is being made of it at the moment...

But as for the question...I'd love to repeat what others have said, that both are great, and it depends on the person, which is very true of course and I always try to adapt to whoever I'm playing with. But as for personal preferences, I seem to take the detailed, highly developed stuff over the spontaneous stuff. The way I see it, spontaneous "naked" roleplay, like the type often seen in the chatroom or one-on-one on a whim, is like watching a funny television show, while roleplaying that involves character development and plotlines and really good descriptiveness is like reading a good book. Television shows can lighten the mood and cause laughter, but then it's over quick and seldom has lasting impressions. A good book can maim your soul. I still feel the scars, and they are sexy scars.

So to answer more directly: while I certainly enjoy a good random tickle-spaz with someone "up for some RP," I feel more in my element with the more detailed, creative variety. 🙂

And I think the "noncon" term may be a little misplaced here, as some of you are suggesting it's less pleasant than playful roleplay for those involved. Though the details may get rather grim, the fact remains that it's only nonconsentual for the character involved - the roleplay itself is quite consentual, and thus can be just as pleasant as cutesy fun playful stuff. 😉 The REAL annoying "noncon" of roleplay is when some slick decides to start roleplaying with you when you're clearly not in the mood! 😛issed

I agree with you there. I kinda prefer to have some background and characters, preferably O.C. and not pre-made. There's a few role-plays like that on here, but the background stories don't really tickle my fancy. Plus things can get a little messy with multiple people in role play and new people joining.

I write a story some years ago called,"Queen Angelina" in which there were a whole lot if different characters and potential for more. After the story was written, I then connected it to a link fir interactive stories. People seemed to enjoy taking in a character and writing from that character's perspective. The end result was a great story in itself the first part if such was my original one and the second part such ended up bring written by ten people total with all sorts of others who would write in comments like , "Loving this ! Please don't stop!"

I think there is no wrong way to RP. Some like creating a whole story with well developed characters and others just want the tickling-interaction.

Personally, committing to more than what we do in the interactive forum here on TicklingTheater sounds too time consuming.

When it comes to rping I like ones that are gonna keep the fun going. I've rp'd with hundreds of people, tickling and non tickling related. I think the best were fighting ones, where I use my dragon powers and we go all DBZ APE CRAZY on people, destroying planets, tree's mountains, its all fun. Some people say the right way to rp is just with a bunch of story like information but not everyone likes to read such descriptive stuff all the time. If that's your thing, more power to ya, but not mine. As long as I can still imagine whats going on even with the shortest of words (and i can) then i'm good.

Hmmmm. Mostly just detailed responses. I'm not good pretending to be other people, celebrities, or OC's xD I like being me. =D

I'll just detail how the ties/bonds or pins work and what slack or movement can be used and the methods and tactics on whichever spot or spots I'm focusing on and what not.

seems to be effective I suppose. 0.o

I rarely do it anymore, but when I did it more often, I preferred more playful, goofy stuff. If there was "noncon" it was generally of a lighter variety, not the "kidnapping basement" type of thing.

For me it depends on the other person, how well we work together and create situations and introduce new characters and new ideas.
Simple seems to work well and its best to keep away from routine, and re using old stuff.
The imagination is the only limiting factor, and i guess anything goes if both parties agree, or all the group in a group situation, providing its legal.

I find myself invested much more in the story, characters, and play itself than the content of the role play. As such, it's not a question of "do we want noncon" as much as "what character would do something noncon?". I shape the play around the character as opposed to the character around the play. It lets me be more flexible with including content that's suitable for the person I'm role playing with as well as my own. I've had a lot of encounters, specifically in World of Warcraft (where tickling stuff among the rp community is very limited), that involved fetishes that I do not share; I've done vore, giantism, blood play, death, torture, mind control, etc. Hell, I've done just vanilla sex (which, for those of you that know me, actually isn't much of a thing for me) that involved a little tickling. I've just always liked the development of the story and scene more than the content. Of course, this isn't the one and only way and I'm far from saying its the right way. Just my way. ^_^

How do I roleplay? Um, that depends what type of roleplaying you mean Impy. Online or actual physical roleplay with someone else? Online I don't really do but as for physical roleplay, my lover and I often do roleplaying scenarios like "bondage hide and seek" or "the harem mistress's slavegirl" or stuff like that.

I was referring to online tickling roleplays, but this thread can go wherever it wants xD

So we can fantasize about ticklish scenarios while LARPing, too? Hmm, yummy...

I guess I like all the kind of rp you talked about, noncon and playful but usually depend on the other person because when i roleplay i will have fun myself but i have the urge that even the other player(s) will have fun too that to me is the most important thing. I tried noncon that usually is my favourite but when i roleplayed a playful one i was roleplaying for hours , even more than the noncons.

As to the background... well... the more realistic it is the more I like it... but since some time ago i was used to play D&D i like fantasy too sometimes ^^

Naturally it all depends. Sometimes we'll be straightforward and I'll be tying up and tickling her and (depending on the girl) possibly dishing out a bit of pain. There'll usually be a lot of "Yes Sirs" and "Thank you, sirs" from her mouth. If there's a story involved and we're playing characters, then it's typically going to be a non-con RP.

Of course, whether I'm being playful or really cruel all depends on the mood I'm in and the person I'm roleplaying with.

I RP with piles of dice and character sheets. If your Strength is lower than mine then you damn well better roll a 20 or it's tickle-time!

I also wear elaborate costumes to get in the mood, though plate mail usually ends up being somewhat stuffy and uncomfortable.

I just straight up can't roleplay.

Tried it once (on this very website, incidentally), and effectively eradicated any sort of fun anybody was having with it. Then people started ignoring me, and I realized fairly quickly that I was ruining it for everyone, so I decided to bow out while I still had some dignity.

Then I met another veteran roleplayer on Steam that explained to me what I was doing wrong once I told her the story. Turns out, I'ma compulsive godmoder. Since I don't feel like changing my ways, I've decided to simply avoid roleplaying.

(I don't mind spectating though)

I've rp'd with people who prefer to take the gmod role as a 'ler, and most of the time I don't mind. It can be a bit boring for somone, I suppose, to have everything 'magically' happen without any imagination, but I think gmodding can be really creative too. I wouldn't give up after one bad experience-if you look long enough I'm sure you can find someone interested in what gets you too ^__^
