Didn't see a thread on the movie. I searched first so don't yell at me if I started another thread. 🙂

No spoilers here. It was better than Daredevil for one, though I liked Daredevil very much. IT matched Spiderman but better than Spidey because of the different approach in movie style. More to my liking, deeper characters.

Jennifer Connelly beats out Jennifer Garner just barely for my onscreen babe of the century. Simply beautiful...

Now what about the Hulk? Incredible story. For saps that want to see things get destroyed every second? Um go watch From Justin to Kelly or wait for the Terminator. 😛

The story took the emotion angle and really made the Hulk something more than the green guy we already loved in the comics.

As a review I read earlier stated, this is the movie that any movie-goer that wouldn't be caught dead at a "comic movie" and the next day admitting they went and saw it.

The commericals scared me to tell the truth, I was worried we would see the best parts and not need to see the movie. Not so. This movie had substance and you really felt for Banner.

Loved Bruce's dad as a character, it really was a great idea to bring him into this story. Ang Lee! You made a comic fan proud.

How was the CGI? Better than the commericals but still not there but getting there! You get drawn into the characters so much that the Green Goliath felt real by the middle of the movie. You'll see what I mean.

It's long (movie length) and exactly how I wanted it. Ang Lee really went into character development. The action is awesome but it was everything else that really made this movie great.

The last thing I will say is this. No need to stick around, there is no ending trailer or side clip after the main song and credits roll. We sat there till the lights went on and screen was shut off.

Hulk? A+++ I can't see them topping it with a sequel but if Ang Lee does it again... well... I cant wait!

Hulk SMASH!

I am looking foreward to seeing it but here on tv thay are playing it to death with the lowdown it's on like 4 times a day.

This is one movie I HAVE to see! (Rather predictable I know.) Nice to see the homages to the old series are in it too. Glad they took the emotional angle.

I was going to see it opening weekend, but got a bad case of bronchitis, so that's that. I'll catch it this weekend. I can't see where it'll be bad...it's just a comic, guys. How bad can you screw that up? 😎

Hulk Movie!

I just checked out the Hulk movie, It was pretty good. Comic book fans will eat it up. Good plot, action scences and special effects. Although Ang Lee did go a bit overboard with Bruce Banner and Betty Ross problem relationship with their fathers. Overall good summer movie!

Hey DK enjoyed reading your review,,,the cpl of reviews i read in the loal newspaper here said the movie was dark,,,made me think of the 2nd Batman movie , Penguin etc which I didnt enjoy, although Michelle Pfieffer made up for it ,,,anyway, I loved daredevil and spiderman, so now im looking forward to the Hulk thanks again Rob

R Chello... Glad I was able to give somewhat of a review without any spoilers...(must hold in...need...to...contain spoilers!)

Phew... I was able to stop myself. 🙂

Just got back again from seeing the Hulk with another friend. I enjoyed it just as much as the first time.

I respect your opinion R. Davis in how you thought the relationship problems with their fathers were drawn out. But I disagree, it really made you understand the emotion in both of them, the anger and the pain.

I couldn't believe a review saying this was so dark. What did they want the Hulk to do? Call everyone a puny human or say Hulk Smash every other sentence? Did they want Jim Carrey to show up as The Leader and tease the Hulk into utter rage? Some critics obviously still don't get the new way Marvel is showing heroes on the screen.

"Whoa... a serious comic movie. No silly costumes or villians. Are you sure this is a comic?"

I can't wait for Punisher. From what I've read, get ready for a more dark hero.

On a side note, there were a couple funny things said or done.

thoughts on hulk movie

Man!!what a great movie. I was addicted from start to finish. Go see it if you havent already. I swear its one of the best comic book movies you'll see untill spiderman 2.:wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: 😛 😛 😛 😛

before i saw the movie, i had heard from several different people that the movie sucked. they said it was boring, they said the CG Hulk looked real fake, and they said the plot was stupid. then of course i go see the movie and here is my opinion:

this movie was cool. not great, but not boring or stupid. the plot was interesting, the acting was cool, and the CG Hulk worked for me. then again, i'm the type of person who gets more caught up in the story, rather than the special effects. to make the Hulk more monstrous, more enormous, they had no choice but to make a CG Hulk. a regular actor wouldnt have been the same. yeah, i liked the tv series with Lou Ferrigno (who by the way had a cool cameo along with Stan Lee), but for the Hulk to toss around tanks and such, a CG character is needed. it looked a little cartoony, but i still think it was cool.

overall, the movie was cool. i wouldnt say it was a hit like Spiderman, but nonetheless, it was still good enough. i was entertained.

Cheers dude, thanks for the spoiler. 🙄

BigJim, I took 15 minutes to send you a PM, please email me back 🙂 I dont intend to see the Hulk, as I am currently jobless and moneyless

I was kind of dissapointed by the movie. I thought it was too cartoonish. plus whatever they call that box type thing they were doing on the screen may be great for comic book buff but i did'nt particularly care for it. It was distracting. Would have been a decent made for tv movie , but was boring for major screen movie.

To each their own.

Gonna go see it again. Why? Cuz it was a fun movie.

From what I've seen the CG Hulk looks a joke. Sad really, because I really WANT to like this film.

T.I.C dude, T.I.C.

Besdies which if you wanna list those psoilers and e-mail them to me...........

We just saw it......got to agree..a great tv show or video, but a really bad movie......you know..something you can pause to get a snack...or not.....

The emotion that they gave him did nothing but disappoint me as I went to see the Hulk, not some watered down made for all ages movie tripe!

The story line WAS boring...did not stick even close to the origin..and as I said to one of my best friends (who loved it)
Stan Lee must be going senile if he let this pass as the green behemoth's story.

No where NEAR as good as Spiderman...and I truly do not await the sequel.....A waste of 2 hours (and it felt like so much longer)

My 2 cents....(and that's a penny too much to spend)

Sorry Jim, but I believe you will be truly disappointed as well.

I guess I love psychodramatics.

I love the big green guy and had it gone by the comic version, Bruce Banner and Betty would have bored me to tears.

The fact that they made those two characters interesting was great.
Of course the Hulk could have just been shown for the whole two hours smashing things and I feel that's what some wanted. I look for that in T3.

I've seen it three times now and I can't wait for the DVD.
Though I agree with Ven, the original Superman is still awesome.

I'm done with this thread now. 🙂

My standards are much lower than yours mate. 😀

I would have to say after seeing the movie last night that it was “a movie that could have been great, but Ang Lee’s choice of editing the movie in endless comic book boxes and scene transitions ruined it.” It was way, way, way too distracting. That took me, and the rest of the audience so out of the movie that people were screaming at the screen. I wanted to scream, “Stop you bastard!” I think one reviewer put it best: “Ang lee was trying to justify shooting all that coverage by putting every damn camera angle he shot on screen in comic book panels.” The story was good, and had it been shot and edited like a regular movie it would have been great. But alas, by the middle of the movie you got lost because of this editing device and no one cared what happened to the characters anymore. When Banner’s dad got his own powers, I had given up and wanted to leave. It took away the personal-ness of the story. Like when the hulk killed the bad guy and Ang decided to show this by freezing the frame, putting it in a circle comic book panel in the middle of a bunch of other comic panels, having a bold black outline around the body and compositing it over a cartoon red flame.” I was sitting there going “What the f’n hell was that?” and “Why the f’n hell did he do that?” That could have been a great scene HAD IT BEEN SHOT AND EDITED NORMALLY. Here was the death of the films antagonist and it was done like that. There had been a great story there and it just got wasted in the directing. Also, I think the actors where trying, but they got lost in the fray too.

And the fight between him and the hulk dogs got lost as they lit the scene so dark that you couldn’t see a lot of what was going on. I mean I know this was supposed to be taking place at night in the deep woods, but come on!

My other of many complaints was “Did we have to see that many close-ups of frogs, snakes, and every other damn slithery creature, as well as rocks and the desert floor?” It was like watching a damn 60’s psychedelic movie. It was pointless. I mean people were really complaining and yelling at the screen, and most importantly, lost. A lot of people wanted to walk out, and were verbal, but didn’t do it as they just shelled out 10.00 for it so they might as well stay to the end to see if it got better. I have only seen one other movie where I experienced that-BATMAN AND ROBIN.

I mean the way it was edited and shot pulled me out of the story so bad that I didn’t even know Bruce’s Dad had set off a gamma explosion in the desert as there was so much stupid psychedelic imagery that I just thought this was another metaphor the director was using for something or another.

Basically, my thoughts are this: “A good story that could have been great had they polished it up a little ruined by the shooting and editing, and even some performances. It put it on par with the likes of BATMAN AND ROBIN and METERO MAN as far as comic book adaptations go.” And Daredevil was light-years ahead of this. This is one stinky mess that I can’t see anyone thinking is a good movie. Ang Lee is a great director, and when I heard he was hired I was elated. Now i can truly say he was totally "THE WRONG MAN FOR THE JOB"

PS-Word of mouth on what I said above has killed it for being number 1 again. I only see this movie losing money. I also do not see it making it's 110 million dollar price tag back on domestic release. And if Universal makes a sequel to this, shot and edited in the same manner, they might as well give me the money they are going to throw away. I mean if they are so stupid to want to be kicked in the nuts, I will do it and take the cash they will shell out for it. This movie is another american version of GODZILLA or Jar Jar Binks. And Roger Ebert, what the hell are you thinking reviewing this movie the way you did? I used to respect your opinion.

What about Godzilla MEETS Jar-Jar Binks? 😀

And oh God, is it really split up into boxes all the time? We had a series director here in England who was obsessed with doing that and it used to drive me up the fucking wall! :ranty:  :ranty:

It was that way about 70 percent of the movie. Yeah it was really irritating. It was like watching an episode of Pokeman and telling yourself "Universal paid 110 million bucks for this mess." The worst effect in the movie was when they where taking Bruce down a stairwell to a secret lab in an underground military base. It was a side shot of the stairwell went from the top right frame to the lower left. The outside of the stairwell was highlighted in green. The camera zoomed out and the stairwell turned into a green CGI glowing line coming out of a CGI heart or DNA strand or something. Then the CGI graphic turned on its axis to the back of this thing and the camera zoomed into the bottom of the green line and the bottom of the stairwell became visible again as you see from above as the characters exit the stairwell into the lab. I mean that is how one irritating effect in the movie. And the story was supposed to be dark and serious but you couldn't take it seriously when it is like that. I mean it honestly looked like they got a new editing program with every conceivable transition and they had to use the whole thing. I was seriously waiting for the star wipe. And that HULK versus HUL DOGS thing. It was 5 to ten minutes long. If you are going to spend that much money on CGI at least let the audience see it. I mean it looked like they left all the lights at home and asked someone on the crew to light the scene with a BIC lighter. I mean it was on par with MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE. And by the end when the dad shows up in San Francisco after the military has Bruce. By that point it lost the audience like when after Ripley in Alien 4 was laying on the floor of Aliens and they sucked her down into the hive and it looked like a Broadway number. I remember everyone in the audience then went, “Oh my god this sucks. What the f’ is that?”, and a sucky movie just went into really sucky piece of crap from there. That is what most of this movie was. One big, stinking piece of crap. And I read this morning Universal hired the write to write the sequel. I feel like emailing Universal saying "You know if you want to shell out millions of dollars to be kicked in the nuts I will do it for you for half of what you are going to throw into a sequel" And the worst is it was trying to be a serious and deep movie but then the direftion, acting, editing, comic boxes, and the 60's psychadelic closeups and shots make it so you can't.

Ooops. I mean all that made it so you can't take it seriously at all. I seriously want the ten bucks and two plus hours of my life back.

Oh and I forgot to add one more thing about the comic book panels. Allot of the time they floated over each other in the main frame, and ones got small and others got big. Sometimes it was 2 characters talking to each other in the same room and she would be on the top and he would be on then bottom, and the frames would move in the main frame over black so that you had to watch her frame talking on the top moving to the left and out of the frame and his talking on the bottom moving on the right and out of the frame at the same time. Sometimes they had 6 or 7 panels at the same time and you are supposed to follow what goes on in each. The more I think about it the more it pisses me off. I mean I can't believe anyone at Universal watching the first edit of this P.O.S. months ago when it could have been saved came out of it saying, "God this is great. People are going to love this. We are going to make bucks and have a major franchise off of this." They should have just taken it away from Ang Lee and edited it into a regular movie and done some re-shoots and it would have been good. I mean this thing is totally unmatchable now that I think about it. When everyone left the theater people where asking each other "Could you follow that at all?" "Did you understand any of that at all?" "Everyone did say they hated it." I mean I have never watched a movie where people were constantly yelling aloud to the screen "STOP DOING THAT!" And I really can’t believe it got any good reviews at all. I mean it. BATMAN AND ROBIN is an Academy award winner and an important film along side this. That is how bad this is. At the end of the movie a nuclear bomb could have killed all of the characters in the movie and it would have been and improvement. And when the Dad gets his powers and they fight in the desert people where saying "God I don't care if they both die just end the movie already." And that was another battle in the movie that takes place in the middle of the California desert, in the night, that went on for 5 minutes that was so dark you couldn’t even see what was going on. People where asking "Did he just slam him into a rock?" and the other person went "I don't know. I can’t see it either." At least you can laugh at an Ed Wood film and kind of follow it. 1982's MEGAFORCE was better and more coherent than this. God I can go on forever about how much it thoroughly SUCKED! SUCKED!! SUCKED!!! SUCKED!!!! SUCKED ASS SUCKED!!!!! Just trust me. Save your money and don’t see it in the theater. Wait for it on cable. Even then you will be lost and feel cheated, but at least you wont feel like you wasted $10.00 on it.
