You'll note that I used the British spelling, because that's where the problem lies. The members of this forum are separated by a common language.

By sheer numbers, the common language of this forum is North American English. It's not quite the same as is used in the UK, or Australia, or taught as a foreign language. That's guaranteed to lead to misunderstandings.

Red Indian seems to have that British sense of humor that baffles us Americans. Further, his choice of words, while unremarkable at home, often seem to be interpreted as flaming by the American members. I don't think that's his intent, at least most of the time.

We're not exempt from the problem on this side of the pond either. I once mortally insulted an Australian while calling him a fine fellow - only the presence of an Australian-to-American interpreter (an Irishman) averted a fight. More recently, I posted a response on this forum, which I thought by my choice of words was clearly tongue-in-cheek, and was called a criminal by one of our foreign members. The Americans who responded, on the other hand, saw what I was doing.

Bottom line: Next time you read one of Red Indian's posts, stop and read it again. Think about it before sending flames back his way. You mods, please be less eager to delete him. If what he says has two possible meanings, and one of them pisses you off, he probably meant the other.

I, for one, enjoy Red Indian's wharped sense of humor...along with that of others. My first reaction to many of his posts is to roll my eyes. 🙄 The second is to laugh. :blaugh: But, then, I love to laugh at myslf and with others. Those I've met in life who don't like this are those who tend to take themselves and life too seriously. We all need to kick back, relax and enjoy ourselves and not take things so seriously that we cripple ourselves in the struggle to fiind joy and meaning in our life.

Two satisfied customers!

Thanks for the support you guys! as regards Strelinkovs generous appraisal of my humour as having two meanings, I think what i try to do is balance between the two! and sometimes i fall off! I would love to see what some of the more easily offended on this site would make of a night out with me and my friends, I think they would be horrified at the way we speak to each other and how the most appalling insults and foul language are just grist to the mill when we are out "Lager shopping", and the girls are just as bad as the boys. We tend to work quite hard at our "game" as it were, and it is a mark of distinction and prowess as to who gives out the best shots on a given night. Believe me when I say I tone things down a lot when I post in here but as I have said else where on the site I understand the mods have a tricky job to do and can not be expected to understand my warped sense of humour all the time. I do agree with Ticklingduo about there being too many uptight people on the site sometimes, it strikes me as a very odd site to post on if you do not have a sense of humour! any way thanks again guys, Tally Ho!!

Ho?

Now see, there's the problem right there...I know a ho (*****) named Tally, and she's a really nice kid, although a bit troubled, obviously. Those parantheses are for the non New Yorkers who may not call their ladies of the evening by the time honored abbreviation heralded in the Big Apple.

As for red indian...he's insane anyway, so why worry about this? He's already forgotten it and is on to new adventures! We only see one of his 32 personalities, and this one happens to be literate. You guys are just feeding his delusion, and his keepers will be along any time now and set things straight. 😕 Q

Count me in on the defense of red indian, by whatever spellin'. S'long as I get t'quaff a round wit' him, Strel, and Q, life will be good. Double bonus if we get t'drink 'em on his turf, where the beer's proper and the pour's better.

The more I understand the man, the more I like his posts. 'Sides, he's one of the ONLY people who ever "crossed the line" and got his post pulled by me that DIDN'T whine about it. Understood it completely. Gotta respect a man that can do that, and I do.

'Sides, he's funny.

I've always tried to give the Injun the benifit of the doubt, even though I myself have once fallen into the trap of taking something he said the wrong way.

Coming from someone with another twisted sense of humor, I can see where things can get confusing. As with anyone, take the big picture into account when reading Red's posts. He's taken me aback on a few occasions, as I'm sure I've done to others.

Good point on the social communication barrier as well, Strelnikov.
I wouldn't want to be someone's fifteen-stone first footer....😀

Sternlikov-- Nice offer to defend Red Indian, but I've always gotten the impression that he's more than capable of defending himself.
Qjakl-- I'll keep the tally on the hoes. It's a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it.

a touching display of support.....come on group hugg..😱

Chow time for my delusions

Thanks for all the kind words folks! It seems I have my own thread now. Do I win a prize or something? a night out with Priscilla James will do. It seems I may be in with a good chance these days as a "Rich english sucker" (see relevant thread) luring all your best looking fanny to the U.K.!!! Tally Ho!

Ok

While I may not think the "Twisted" type humor red uses is the least bit funny, I still understand it. I also understand that some of Red's remarks about America mean one thing: That he loves anything and everything American!!! Yanno what?? We love you british people as well! The only difference between our great nations is that we make fun of you behind your backs(yanno, to be polite and all that)! 😀

More Power To Ya Red!!!!

(600 dollars to anyone who can tell me what my inspiration for this post was) *Hint* CGW ......

yo red. you keep luring that fanny - us brits need more over here! and if you get priscilla james - i will give you a cheque for a thousand pounds!

(cheques will not be honored)

😎

CGW?

Well you got me there big K! any chance of another hint? This looks like being a very lucrative thread for me with your 600 dollars and Dr zzt,s 1000 quid! just in case any one HAS got the wrong end of the stick about my "humour" I am certainly not anti American, as a jazz musician its just not possible! I have never been to the states but I would LOVE to go one day soon and hear your great musicians in their natural habitat and taste your weak lager!

Thanks Dr zzt for the support I will endevour to continue as a fanny magnet for American totty!

Weak lager....

At least we have the sense to chill the damn swill.....that brown soup you drink might be palatable if it was a bit less warm and gooey! Actually, I don't care for either...more of a shot of tequila guy myself...or Jack and Coke if I'm out and about. Q

Ah, my venerable friend, you wound me. Not only do ya ignore a fine pint o' Caffreys, golden and delicious, but you miss a truth about room temp for Guinness. Guinness isn't just a beer, man. It's a meal. That "room temp" is a cool room, still. They don't heat the stuff. 'Least, not the last time I was there, and that was only a year ago.

We'll order you a Jack 'n' Coke when we go for drinks. 😉

Eat the meal...drink the drink

Don't want to "drink" a meal, my fine feathered left coaster! I'll have a tequila and tonic with 2 slices of lime, muchas gracias! You may "drink" what you wish and I'll happily buy the first 2 rounds for ya! 🙄 Q

Miss this. 🙂

So, I wasn't around to find out just what the Red fella did to hack the majority, but I still feel the need to post something.

You see....you simply can NOT mention 1) Jazz, 2) Guiness, & 3) Tequila (blue agave with a lime and no salt thank you very much) in one thread and me not take notice of it! At the risk of sounding like a lush right off the bat, I quote the song, "These are a few of my favorite things."

Jo...just bein' social

Jeez, where are my manners. Red, this is Jo. Jo, red.

Red is sometimes misunderstood. We're separated by a common language. Sometimes, Red's just wiley. He's a good fellow. He's just not always, well, he can be indelicate sometimes. Then again, so can I.

Difference is, I just pull his post. Jeff'd have me shot. Okay, he wouldn't. No one would ever prove who did. 😉

Red, watch her. She's lethally flirtacious, brother. You'll live, I 'spect. You percussionists seem t'deal well wit' spirited folk.

hello Red Man

Ok, see now I feel like I'm talking to a bag of tobacco. HA!

Hello Red wherever you are. 🙂 And pay no mind to Dave. I'm not flirtatious....lol. Am I? Dave, darlin', just because you have a weak heart doesn't mean I am lethally flirtatious...though I do so LOVE that choice of words!

Indelicate? Does that mean I get to get fired up on occasion? Methinks, Red and I will get along fine.

And thanks for the introduction Daverino. 🙂

Jo...the new kid in this part o' town.

All that...

and she drinks tequila too! Careful red, this one is a long term keeper...walk softly and remember we speak different languages, my frantic friend from across the sea... Q

the language of art 🙂

Red is a musician I hear. That is enough for me. We insane artists can overlook the misgivings of another. 😉

And Q, you keep this up and you're going to fast become one of my new favorite people.

Jo

An acquired taste...

Kind of like tequila...muchas gracias Senorita. That would be a new experience for me indeed! A favorite person! Despite my bulky posting # I tend to be a bit of a loner. Can't wait for you to meet Strelnikov though...be careful, he's very old and can be cranky (probably creaky also..😉 ) But, I have a feeling he can handle his tequila, so I put up with the sound of his arthritic joints popping and his NRA pickup kicking up dust all over the forum. He's from Alabama, and he's way overdue to be jumping in and saying hi to another Southerner. Perhaps his fingers have swelled beyond typing ability? 🙄 Q

If I were a belle

Hi Jo! pleased to meet you (thanks for the intro DV) I agree with your appriasal of the inately superior nature of the gifted and creative musician ( an exclusive club of which we are both distinguished members) it makes one feel so sorry for the qjakals of this world, drinking themselves under the table in squalid mexican bars! but dont worry about him, as soon as he sobers up he wont even remember having been in here! Dont worry about flirting with me duck, I am a big boy and i can take it all day! (sorry "duck" is an English expression meaning "friend") So fill me in on what you do music wise, I do a number of things, Jazz piano, a little composing for a nine piece brass group, I also play kit and percussion for a brass band and have now started some conducting. So it all goes towards keeping me out of those mexican bars with Q! I look forward to your lethal flirtations soon.

this defence of red has been going on for a while now...i dont think we will ever get a conviction...har har 😀
