Depending on your perspective it is, at best, the same non-logic. From where I'm sitting, as a person whose mother wasn't murdered in the WTC attacks, it's shitty and manipulative.
Hmmm....let's see....Tsunami----WTC attack. That's an apples to apples comparison if I ever saw one........
Thousands of citizens killed by a man's hand.......mother getting murdered by man's hand........wow, those two have absolutely nothing in common. Thank you for showing me the light Scruff; I never would've done it without you.
Is this the Brazil where 10 year olds carry guns, the police execute restrained, unarmed suspects in the street, leprosy is still a problem, and prison consists of 60 men, one room, and a bucket? I'd say they have enough problems without terrorism.
Don't believe the Snoop Dogg/ Justin Timberlake videos of sparkly girls and golden beaches; Brazil is a fucking shithole.
The problems in Brazil have been going on long before you hit the earth Scruff and if they don't concentrate on solutions, they'll be there long after we both die. Here's a novel concept; how about they spend more time finding solutions to their own problems as opposed to using a so-called advertisement timed very closely to 9/11 (considering that's tomorrow here in the US). As you said, they have plenty of problems.........
I'd be very surprised if they made it to coincide with the anniversary, or indeed the anniversary even occurred to them. September 11th in Brazil is most likely a day when the national media outlets make some mention of the WTC attacks whilst everyone just goes on with their lives.
Same as it is in the UK.
Exactly when did this get posted to this forum? Days before the 9/11 anniversary? How about using natural disasters to compare to........wait a minute.........er........umm........NATURAL DISASTERS?? Then you're making a correct comparison, not comparing Tsunamis to jet plane attacks. Just for clarification purposes because I'm
not the only one who can be accused with tunnel vision here; natural disasters have NOTHING in common with terrorist attacks with one exception; everyone involved ended up dead. Use the correct concepts and scenarios then folks just might not be either scratching their heads or becoming completely pissed off. Just how hard is that?? I'm sure by your next response, you'll come up with a witty retort to answer that............
Tangental, yes; but I don't see how comparing a natural disaster to a terrorist attack is the same as comparing a natural disaster to watching a video of my mother being murdered.
Explained above; you may not like it, but it's pretty real...........
Because you can have lived through something like that, and STILL make manipulative comparisons. He was attempting to manipulate people's feelings by likening the comparison to watching mothers being murdered; just like how you're being manipulative by drawing attention to the suffering of New Yorkers in order to excuse what he said. Ad hominem works both ways.
Uh.........me pointing out that you were wrong in referring to mils' response as "shitty and manipulative" is not ad hominem. It's pointing out that you are WRONG Scruff. If you were there, your experience and emotions would be in a completely different place. Since you weren't there, you're merely interjecting a distant opinion half way around the world. You're certainly entiled to have it, but by all means own up to it and don't belittle those of us whose opinions differ from yours. Don't dismiss mils' or anyone else from NYC who lost family and loved ones.
That day many people had to decide how they were going to die. Hmmm.....I got up this moring 9/11/2001 and took the subway to work with my coffee and bagel and I'm above the 80th floor. Now I have to decide to either jump to my death or wait for the friggin' tower to collapse to burn and crush me alive. Either way I'm never going to see my family or loved ones again; and the bonus for the day will be identifying mine from thousands of others body parts. Wow, I don't know about you, but I feel anyone from NYC gets a pass for logic when they have burning flesh, ash, jet fuel, and chemical in their lungs that just may kill them someday.
Then you're guilty of the same sort of parochial myopia that he is. The world doesn't revolve around the US; my money is that the film-makers responsible made a badly-judged attempt to shock people into caring about ecological issues, rather than doing it just to spite Americans.
Compare ecological issues to ecological issues and I'm there 1000%. Otherwise as far as backlash, criticism, and basic poor taste are concerned, the Brazilians just have to suck it up. Hope they weren't overly surprised when their brilliant advertisement was rejected. I guess there's always youtube huh????
And the WTC attack was the single deadliest terrorist attack in human history, to my knowledge. I'd still feel far more disturbed watching a video of my mother being murdered than I ever have watching footage of the planes hitting the buildings.
Did you actually use the word "feel" in a sentence?
That's the point Scruff; this stepped on people's emotions and feelings about what happened over here, especially those who live and work in NYC. You've decided within yourself what has emotional priority and so did mils. Neither of you are wrong but you're trying to assess blame to his opinion as if yours takes precedence. It does not; no one's feelings are above the others in this instance.
A lot of them probably wouldn't care, being as how a lot of them live in abject poverty (and I don't mean "social housing cheque once a month" poverty either).
Yes I'm aware of how the children are gun swept in the streets every day and I feel it's just as important as our nation being attacked. Other nations depict us as "myopic", selfish, and uncaring. Looks like they need their perception adusted as well.
I'm not even sure where to start with this...
Well, at least you're honest, but have at it......I'm all ears.........
