And she's poised to take 9th place, followed quickly by 8th, from (respectively) BigNorm and Alf. Then a couple of hundred to Hungarian, so that'll be long before the end of the week. After that, it's a progressively longer climb to 2nd place, and then Nessie is way out in the lead (for the moment at least, eh Kimi? 😉 ).

which brings a happy (or not) christmas time memory.

3 years ago, today, exactly, i was working for a farmer by splitting logs to sell for firewood, and was using the tractor's hydraulic wood splitter and working with 2 other guys. one was operating the tractor, (just fall asleep and push a lever back and forth is all) another was getting the logs from the pile and bringing them to the splitter, and i was loading them onto the splitter and splitting them. well, he over to take over the splitting, since he knows how much i like getting the logs, and i agreed.

not 1 minute after that, he was splitting a Y-shaped log that i would've been doing, when it buckled and the log slipped and flew out, hitting him in the hand, it happened so fast, and the log practically skinned part of his finger, a good sized chunk of skin was hanging off, and it broke his finger in 3 places (was his pointer finger on his right hand). so i get the willies whenever i think of it, and ever since then, i've always gotten the logs, and never loaded them onto the splitter.

I've not had anything happen that resulted in leaky fingers, but several instances on Scout camps that resulted in uncontrolled/barely controlled fires and/or explosions.

One of the best such incidents was when one boy, having used up a can of body spray, chose to dispose of it by means of the campfire. We all kept chatting away, as nothing much happened. Suddenly, someone asked how long that spray can had been in the fire for. Answer: about 30 seconds.

It's a good thing we all ducked in time.

The can exploded outwards at waist level, sending large chunks of spray-can shrapnel in every direction. One such still-smoking chunk embedded an inch deep into a nearby tree. If that had been one of us guys instead...I dread to think - whoever it would have been could have very easily been dead before any of the leaders even returned to the camp site... :wooha:

Aye, explosives are nice, but there's nothing that can beat a fine blade! *swings a sword in a pair of slices, then spins around once, ending with a chop, stopping with a sword held in front, blade pointed forward*
