I hope people don't mind me starting a new thread about this, but, as the other thread discussing the last storm seems to be filling up, I thought I would start another one discussing the upcoming expected storm.

According to Weather.com, the first flakes are expected to fall here in Lancaster at about 3pm Tuesday afternoon. It is then expected to snow all night Tuesday night, and all day on Wednesday.

For most of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, the weather map on Weather.com, is shaded in the same medium white, as it was for the last storm. For the Friday-Saturday storm, my area was shaded in medium white, and, as we know, we received two feet of snow here in Lancaster.

For the next storm, the area near New York City is shaded in brightest white, which could mean the "heaviest snow".

As we've discussed before, the Weather Channel usually will not commit to accumulation expectations of snow, until an actual Watch, or Advisory, is issued some 24 or more hours before. My guess: If the forecast hokls as it seems to be developing, a Winter Storm Watch will be issued some time tomorrow for the areas expected to be hit by the storm, including Lancaster, NYC, etc.

If the snow does come as forecast, it will be interesting to see just how large a storm it is.

Here we go... AGAIN!

Mitch

Yeah, Mitch. It will be interesting to see how this one tracks. Lots of variables to consider. Looks like I get to shovel this time. My back better be cooperating by then!!! I actually enjoy shovelling. lol

If I had a flamethrower, snow removal would be a lot more fun.

Ann, I havent shoveled snow in 20 years, because I've lived in apts since then. The last time I shoveled snow, except for brushing it off my car, was when I was 19.

I hope your back feels okay. I have back and neck problems myself.

From the forecast map this time, it looks like the NYC area may get hit worst, but the entire North East and Mid Atlantic is shaded in medium white. Last time, "Medium White" meant 2 to 3 feet of snow, so it looks like it could be significant for many areas.

It's still 48 hrs away, at least. We'll see how this plays out.

Mitch

Man, I think I might cry if I have to shovel through another 2-3 feet. I just managed to free my car today. That after shoveling a path to actually get to it. :scared:

I just came in after two hours of shoveling lol. Trying to get warm cause baby, it's cold outside!

Considering it is winter I am really not surprised they are predicting snow....

I'm really jealous. I wish we were getting that much snow
up here. Maybe that's 'cause I like to look at it, and stay
in my house, and not shovel it. I live in a condo, so I don't
have to shovel anything except my car. Also, the weens go
potty much quicker if it's snowing.

Living in upstate NY, we learned to clear things back further than necessary when shovelling/plowing. That way, there's room to maneuver with the next storms that come along.

Mitch, you're fortunate. Even when I was in apartments...and later when Drew & I were in a condo, I did a lot of shovelling since I had landlords/neighbors who couldn't do it. I actually miss that at times since we don't get hit as much here in CT.

Well then, here ya go Mondy! One of the snow around my house and two of what it looks like in the farthest and most desolate area of my snow route. Notice in the first picture that the telephone poles end......that's because there is no one to call past there.

Can you ship some of that white stuff to Vancouver? The Winter Olympics are coming up and they're having to ship the snow in from higher elevations due to the unseasonably warm temps they've been having lately.

Nice pictures Kered!!!!

Mondy can tell you i have some similar ones on facebook heheh Looks like now i live also in a "snow land". Actually its not snowing anymore for the last days but i still love to see it and walk on the snow to work 🙂 And mind you i have to walk more than 1 mile to work. Just my shoes seem to enjoy it less 🙂 My german colleagues keep harassing me that i have to buy some good old german winter shoes.....let them have them!!!! i still want my portuguese ones, winter or not!

Luckily i think so far that i dont have to shovel any snow....but may be that i simply dont understand all the letters they keep placing in my mailbox 🙂 im not that good with my german yet.... 😉

To all of you who have snow around, lets enjoy it the best we can!!!! Even in those days when we get home and can barely feel our toes 🙂

Ann, I guess I am fortunate. I have other friends in apartments around here, and, except to brush off their cars, or brush snow off trash dumpsters, my friends dont do any snow removal. The complexes usually are responsible for snow removal.

I belong to a weather site called Weather Underground. While there haven't been any watches or warnings issued yet, the forecast from their site from Tuesday into Wednesday calls for quote "Light Snow Accumulation" Tuesday afternoon, and "Moderate Snow Accumulation" from Tuesday night into Wednesday. I tried looking up a National Weather Service definition of "Moderate Snow Accumulation", but couldn't find it. It sounds to me as if there may be several inches of snow, but it might not be as much of a major storm as it was Friday and yesterday.

Within the next 24 hours we should know more.

An update: DC and Baltimore had Winter Storm Watches issued within the last few hours, for five or more inches of snow. Nothing has been issued here as yet, but, as Baltimore is only about 70 miles from me, one would have to guess that Storm Watches for PA aren't far behind.

It should be http://www.wunderground.com. There are pop up ads, unless one is a member. Membership costs $5 a year. I've been a member for about five years. I like both the forecasts, and the sunrise/sunset times on that site.

Hopefully the link works. The site is called The Weather Underground, if the link doesn't work.

Well, I just came back online after an hour off, and now I see that a Winter Storm Watch has indeed been issued for Lancaster County as of 930 tonight. Early indications are that six to ten inches of snow may be expected with this storm. That is a formidable snowfall. Of course, six to ten was the original accumulation forecast for the last storm, and we ended up getting two feet of snow.

Here we go again.

Mitch

Thanks, Ann. I'll be stocking up at the supermarket tomorrow, and then may be in til Thursday. It's just amazing that another huge storm is coming, what would be 72 hrs after the last one ended.

Mitch

Yeah....and some models have the upper low keeping it further south again...meaning you guys get all the fun again.

And we just got issued another Winter Storm Watch for Tuesday and Wednesday. I'm not done shoveling yet! Lol.

Stay safe everyone!

Mitch, I hope that it's only 4-5 inches of snow here in Baltimore. I saw a newscast a little earlier today where they speculated another 6-12. I want no part of any of it, frankly, but 4-5 will be more tolerable.

Wow Another Storm!!!!!

Mitchell,

I know how you feel. We just had a dumping of a foot of snow and are expected to receive another foot with the next storm. I am about ready to scream.
