Ted Kennedy

Great call Goddess (and you too Santa Fe~what a beautiful pup you have in grumpy BTW!:runningdog:)

And thank you Kis for the history lesson on the great Dr.!:woman: My pop was a liberal and a history major and would be most disappointed I was not aware of these facts. Doesn't change my respect for his amazing work in the slightest.

Everyone who's been around long enough to accomplish anything major in life has skeletons in their closet. Some are just larger, louder and more obvious than others. It's almost as if the the brighter your light shines, the darker the shadows lurk behind, yes?
XOXO

PS~Pretty neat article from yahoo about legal immigrants (like my family) and the work Senator did:

This statement needs to be hanged over the top of the P&R forum because it couldn't be more clearly evidenced than in that subforum.:iagree::ty:

Great post. I'm sure lots of folks have skeletons, myself included. We all do to some extent. I know some people really hate the Kennedys and whatever and that's great that they have their own ideas because in this wonderful country, we're able to express those ideas and opinions. It's the ultimate liberal vs. conservative war that will never seem to cease. Can't we all just get along lol? Hell, even I've been called "un-American" for being a Democrat. Yeah, I don't think some of those label-calling peeps would find another family that would be more patriotic than mine, esp. when we have even lost a few family members in the battle for freedom, most recently in Iraq. I have such high regards and respect for our military and I will until the day I die. Which is why I never respond back to those posts because hey, these people don't know me or my family so to even assume that they do just makes them look like idiots. Ok, that went off topic for a minute, sorry 🙂 Back to the original theme - I for one am proud of their (the Kennedys) work they have done for those less fortunate, one being the Special Olympics. I have family and friends that have both benefited from this wonderful organization. I have volunteered numerous times and I can honestly say there's hardly anything more rewarding. Sad to think if people weren't fighting for these wonderful kids and adults who were disabled, a lot of them would be in "homes" and away from family and friends who loved them. Ted did do a lot for these kids as well, heck, his children even had health issues. Also too, I think that some people seem to forget that Ted Kennedy isn't solely responsible for every law that was passed. He didn't make/pass laws all by himself lol. Ah, that's enough for me. Good thoughts to everyone for a great day tomorrow!

Whether his half-century of work in the Senate fighting for progressive public policy made up for his earlier mistakes I'm not going to argue: how the hell can I know that and who the fuck are we to judge? But when someone dies, as when Pres. Reagan died, it's a nice tradition to honor them for the good that they did and forgive them for the bad.

Amen! We do far too much judging...me included...as though we had the right to do ANY. One of these days we'll get our collectve heads out of our collective keisters long enough to remember that when it counts. Until then, we're our own worst enemies.

When it comes to Dr King, in my opinion, he can throw out the baby with the bathwater and burn the barn down and he'll be all right with me.

I can remember when Abernathy made the same accusations about Dr King before he himself died. My mother was steaming, but it was about the fifth time the accusation was made and who better to know than Mr Abernathy. Personally, I think he was the wingman......he really had no position to criticize IMO. Plus Hoover had bugged his room underneath his bed.....hard to deny that.

I don't give a rat's rear end about it. At the end of the day, I have what I have and can do what I do because of the efforts of Dr King. I wouldn't care if he was a crackhead; his efforts gave me the framework and cost him his life. If you carefully listen to the mountaintop speech, it's abundantly clear that he wasn't going to see the fruits of his labor, but he did it anyway. That takes major stones.

Kennedy had plenty of issues; he wasn't the first nor do I think he's the last. He put in some good work while he was here and whether the dissenters love or hate, it doesn't negate any of the good works he managed to get on the books as far as I'm concerned.
