july 4 1989 the grateful dead played a concert in rich stadium orchard park, N.Y.
 
1981: Led by rookie sensation Fernando Valenzuela, the Dodgers win the World Series over the NY Yankees, four games to two.

1983.

June 13th: The Pioneer 10 spacecraft becomes the first man made object to leave our solar system.:wavingguy
 
1984: (January 27) Pop star Michael Jackson's scalp is seriously burned by pyrotechnics during filming of a Pepsi television commercial.
 
1985.

March 4th: The Food and Drug Administration approves a blood test to detect AIDS in all blood doners.
 
1986: The Red Sox lose the World Series to the NY Mets in spectacular, heartbreaking fashion, leaving their fans in despair (until 2004).
 
1987.

January 8th: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closes above the 2,000 mark for the first time.
 
1988: The DODGERS win the World Series (in five games over the Oakland A's)!!!!!
 
1989: I graduated high school. However, I was not allowed to attend the ceremony because of unfounded rumors that I was plotting something that would have potentially embarassed the school.

1985.

March 16th: Terry Anderson, a newsman for the Associated Press, is taken hostage in Beirut, Lebanon. He was finally released on December 4, 1991.
 
1986

The Boston Red Sox, one strike away from winning the World Series, which would have been their first such victor since 1918, collapse and lose to the New York Mets.
 
1987: (October 14-October 16) The United States is caught up in a drama that unfolds on television as a young child, Jessica McClure, falls down a well in Midland, Texas, and is later rescued.
 
1989: (July 26) A federal grand jury indicts Cornell University student Robert Tappan Morris, Jr. for releasing a computer virus, making him the first person to be prosecuted under the 1986 Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

Ronald W. Reagan is elected President of the United States over incumbent Jimmy Carter. Carter's mishandling of the Iranian hostage crisis contributes to his landslide defeat.

June 21: John W. Hinckley is found not guilty by reason of insanity in the shooting of President Ronald W. Reagan
