NT, I do believe that's what Tf4f has been saying right along about K Wood. We can't count on him. He's costing us too much $$$ and time just sitting around. Sorry, my friend, but I think we have to admit to this one and start putting a little more effort in those we may get a few wins out of this year. It won't be the World Series, though. Not this year......

tsk, tsk, oh ye of little faith. We are only 4 games out of the wildcard, and we have shown the Cardinals they won't have an easy time winning their division. This isn't over yet. As long as we get in, that's what matters

I was very happy with the Dodger game yesterday, a victory, and Lowe's best outing of the season. 😀

If I remember correctly, one of the runs scored in the first inning was by a batter who walked. The walk was 100% Pedro's doing. One of the hits that inning was a clean ground ball single. I would agree that two hits were indeed fly balls in the sun.

But what I would agree to has no relevance to the statistics. The runs were all earned.

Under baseaball's actual rules for official scoring, here is his line for the day:

IP 7.0
H 8
R 5
ER 5
BB 2
SO 4
HR 1

That's what he has to live with, fair or not. He is welcome to curse the fielders who lost the fly balls in the sun.
Okay Mils, bottomline lucky or not, his line was good enough to beat your Dodgers. That is the bottomline.

Now that the Mets are playing the NL West Rockheads, I am rooting for the Mets to win again. 😛

Corrct me if I am wrong oh wise one ( personnally Sadira is making an awful lot of sense ) do you trail the Cardinals by 11 games or is that just an illusion? The Cards have run off with the division. You can forget that. Explain how you have shown the Cards that winning the division won't be easy. You won 2 of 3 from them. You did not win 14 of 18. You still have 11 games left with the Cards but you can not expect to win all 11 games. That would be insane to expect that. Forget the Cards and concentrate on getting healthy and maybe a play-off spot. Just remember you lead the wildcard spot by 4 games with 8 games left to play last year. Then along came a rookie by the name of Victor Diaz and just ruined your season. Don't get cocky Natural. Sadira is just speaking the truth about the failures of her and your Chicago Cubs.

The Dodgers are still in the NL West race. This is not because the Dodgers have been playing well, but rather because the SD Pondscum have lost 7 games in a row.

As a matter of fact, the NL West as a whole is 55 games under .500! 😱

An excellent fact Mils. While all 5 teams in the East are over .500 and they between them are 31 over .500 Trade deadline should prove very interesting.

When a Division is that far under .500 as a whole, you have to say that it really lacks talent.

It lacks something. If the Padres lose two more in a row it will then lack a .500 team. Which I find amazingly funny. :wowzer:

It almost happened even when there were only 2 divisions per league. Look at the NL East in 1973. Your Mets were the only .500+ team at 82-79.

I remember that season very well. The Mets trailed the Pirates by 10 games on August 31 and the late Tug McGraw's cry of " Ya Gotta Believe" sparked the Mets to come within one game of winning the World Series. That was truly a remarkable year. We had no one hit 20 homeruns or steal 20 bases. We did not have a 20 game winner ( Tom Seaver won 19 that year ) and we had no one drive in 80 runs or hit .300 that year. That team redefined to term team work. That team had very little ability yet almost won it all.

I believe that .509 winning percentage is still the lowest on record for any team that got to the World Series. 😀

first of all, lemme let you in on a little secret. Yes, we do have 11 left with them, 8 in Wrigley, and the Cards don't play too well there. Secondly, in case you forgot, they have an infirmary now, and are stocked with injuries, while we are getting healthy and almost our team back, and are starting to have a hot streak. This isn't over yet, by any stretch, until we are mathematically out. Thirdly, you have enough to worry about with the Mets, instead of being overly concerned about us. Last but not least, just because our team has a lot of injuries, doesn't make us failures at all.

the pipe is passed back to you now

I am now hoping that the Dodgers can catch the slumping SD Pondscum. 😀

That's possible, considering their lack of starting pitching, and a slumping, inconsistent offense 😀

It might wind up that every team in the NL West is below .500. 😱

Well, if some team with a lousy record is going to win the NL West, it may as well be the Dodgers. 😀

They have their own infirmary and 11.5 game lead on you. You can't deny that fact. What do you expect to win of the 11 games between you and the Cards? Kerry is down. Sadira is right about that. Why earlier in the year you hinged your hopes on Prior and Wood coming back and now you won't acknowledge to anyone that Wood's injury hurts this staff? Please Mr. Cub help me make sense of it all. By the way, Victor Diaz is suppose to be called up for the Cubs series in New York. :xpulcy:

I like the vigorous debate in this thread. 😀
It does present an entertainment value like no other. But that is the beauty of this particular sport. You can have great debate about any era or whether the baseball was better in the 50's or 40's or 80's or 20's. It does not matter. Baseball will always provide interesting conversation regardless of who you root for.

It is my belief that baseball is endlessly fascinating. 😀
I will be happy tomorrow morning if I find out that the Dodgers, Cubs, Cardinals, Brewers, and Mets all won.

If you have read my repsonse to sadira a few pages back, I had said maybe it will be best to shut Wood down and get him ready for next year. I still have faith in my boys and that will never change. If 11 games is the deficit entering Sept then by all means fine, division hopes is shot. But until then, I will think big

The Dodgers are only 4 games behind the Division-leading Pondscum as of today. 😀

I did read what you said to Sadira and you told her that she has little faith. She is just being a realistic fan. She knows that the Cubs are a team that is always ready to let their fans down. Examples are 1969,1973,1984,1989,1998,2003,2004. She is just being honest with herself about her team as I am about mine. Mets lose and the Cubs lose. No shame. You are a great fan Natural.
