Very cool thread . I love all the pics . I find all the space pics, galaxies, clusters, etc totally fascinating. But I want to share this. It's something someone e-mailed me a few years ago & it puts things into a true perspective. I can't copy the pics from my e-mail, but here is a link to a site showing the same pics. Our closest celestial neighbor is not colorful but to me it has a stark, desolate beauty all its own. And men have walked its surface. That is pretty darn cool.

Thanks Persephone. Glad you liked it. I love how it takes something that we think we have a reasonable understanding of and shows that we don't. Compared to what's out there our Sun is really just on the scale of cosmic dust.

To think about the size of other stars is boggling, but still amazing! Thanks Wolf :boogie:
 
This is a picture of a Perseid meteor which appears to be striking near the summit of Mount Rainier with the Milky Way Galaxy on the left. The picture is from the National Geographic website and I want to use it as my new wallpaper but it won't download for some reason. 🙁

For some reasons...the concept of a Black Hole...really freaks me out! Because once something goes in, it never comes out O.O!

I love the moon pictures and LOVE how they are named after Greek myth figures X)
 
Bugman, if you squint really hard at the Hubble shot I'm sure a lot of the universe's moons are already in there.
All you have to do now is figure out which ones are hidden behind other ones. That must narrow it down for you 😉
