Folks, the private chat/IM feature is being investigated. We're not completely certain why it was omitted (I imagine I forgot to do something) but it should be coming. We hope. 😀

SamuelKhan, as it is written in Flash you may have a Flash Player issue. Do you know if you have the latest version installed?

Working fine for me last night.

Just a one thing - if you have an internal TV card and a USB webcam, you will need to set the thing to access your webcam and not the TV card. At one point the chatroom was regularly crashing for me, until I sorted it out... just click Settings, it had the TV card as the default video input. And no, I could not stream TV through the chatroom, it crashed when I opened the video thingy.

Also, it seems to work just fine under the Windows Seven beta 🙂

It depends on whether or not we can get Instant Messaging to work. Right now that's not looking too hopeful 🙂 In which case we'll just keep it up as a second chatroom.

It is supposed to automatically log you in. As long as you've been doing something (browsing, posting, whatever) on the TMF right before you try to enter the chatroom, it should let you in. What browser are you using? (apologies if you already noted this somewhere) The system does look for a cookie to authenticate you; we can see if that cookie is being set for you.

I'm using Firefox.

These instructions will be for Firefox 2; I refuse to use Firefox 3 due to my hatred of the Awesomebar. I believe the commands are analogous.

1. Go to "Tools" in the list of menus at the top of the browser window.
2. Select "Options".
3. Under the "Privacy" tab look for "Show Cookies".
4. If you search for "tickling" one of the results should be a cookie for ticklingforum.com called "bbsessionhash". If that cookie does NOT exist then you will not be able to enter the chatroom. It is created when you log in and browse around the forum unless you have cookies disabled.

If that doesn't work let me know and I can try to find the true, Firefox 3 method for viewing cookies. If you can't find that cookie and you've been browsing the forum just moments before looking then we'll have to investigate further.

If you do see the cookie and still can't get in we'll try diagnosing further as well.

That is to be expected. What you are doing is allowing Flash, the technology that runs the chatroom, to interface with your camera and get full and (I suspect) unimpeded access to its output. As it is sending that information to Userplane (the company running the chatroom) for use in streaming to others, many security programs no doubt see fit to raise an alarm. You would not want a program doing this without your permissions and your security system assumes the worst, alerting you to what is happening. There isn't any great risk in using the camera in the chatroom, unless Userplane is far more sneaky and evil than I anticipated. 😀

This virus thing happens to alot of us whether we're using mic/cam or not. What it seems to be is a popup/ad for virus protection that is designed to look like your "My Computer" window, or something else on your actual computer, and not the internet. I've found that usually you can just hit the back button and it'll take you right back to the chatroom. Sometimes, however, you have to close the entire window and reopen a new one.

I have been having issues with the ads that run . Even with pop-up blocker.

last night totally freaked out comp with 34 "threat detected" did a complete scan & had 5 infections. Cannot say which ones. I do know have had several
instances when have just been typing & all of a sudden ad just takes over.

Someone had mentioned a "ad blocker" program so am lookin into that.

Hopefully can get bugs worked out, it is a cool addition!

Also, I didn't WANT to upgrade to Firefox 3. The sneaky bastard jumped me while I was in the middle of typing something and had the upgrade choice pop up right as I hit my space bar, automatically choosing the "Yes upgrade" option. >_<
