The did you know thread

Hi Ayesha...

Nice job...rowing is certainly correct! As for those Bambi's...anything to do with the old "deer in the headlights syndrome"? They freeze when you shine lights at them, and of course Bambi is the most famous deer we all know? Q

Ok, I've been sick for the last couple of days, so I'm just now getting to this.

Talons posted: "Did you know that money is not made out of paper it is made out of cotton?"

In fact, though out the middle ages, all paper was made from cotton. It wasn't until someone discovered that you could boil down wood chippings to make pulp that paper was made from trees.

Did you also know that beer is more nutricious(sp?) than if you were to make bread out of those same grains.

Hey, this is fun! Here's an easy one.

What was the original title of "Return of the Jedi" and why was it changed?

The original title was "Revenge of the Jedi", if memory serves. It was changed because it sounded too martial to Mr. Lucas' ears. He wanted the Jedi to be above petty revenge (All those "Dark Side of the Force" issues).

Correct?

Give the man a Cigar! Correct.

Nice to see you around again, mein fruend.😎

Likewise, buddy. Yay! A cigar! *huffin' and puffin' happily*... WAIT! This is a CUBAN cigar! How on earth did that get here? Busted... I am busted... I better practice showering without dropping the soap before they come for me...

More?

So...
Do you know>>>>

What were freckles called before they were called freckles?

Partly Correct. Star Trek II was also in production at the same time, under the working title of "The Revenge of Khan," and Lucas wanted to avoid confusion at the box office in addition to the reasons cited by Marauder.

I like this thread!

Q - Freckles before they were freckles? How's about skin? 😉

OK, so here's one...
After receiving his superhero powers from the Greek gods of Zues, Mercury and Achilles, the young Billy Batson assumed what secret identity?

Hint: It wasn't "Super Tickler"😛

Thanks Scot...

For saving me by posting a bit quicker than I could..lol..but comics have always been a love of mine, especially Golden Age! As for freckles, Ms. Jo...they were called "moth patches" in days gone by, and were considered an affliction, and hence hidden religously by all who had them. Personally I think they're both cute and sexy at the same time! Q

fashion. 🙂 <--- look no eyebrows! 😱

most of his subjects had no eyebrows and some had no lashes. fashion can be strange. in a few hundred years they will be saying "they peirced thier tongues?!" lol

I would have guessed moths.

Did you know... that the first soldier killed in the American Civil War was a FDNY man? Bonus points if you can name him and describe the circumstances.

First Soldier?

Well, I know the name of the first Confederate soldier to be killed.... This soldier was Henry Lawson Wyatt. He was born in Richmond, Virginia, February 12, 1842. His parents were Isham Belcher and Lucinda N. L. Wyatt. He was apprenticed to the carpenter trade. Don't happen to know the first Union one...sorry.

As for the Mona Lisa... *BING*....absolutely correct! It was a fashion statement of the times....

My next contribution:

Did you know:>> Which of these groups eats more ice cream per year? A New Englander or a Southerner?

I'm gonna guess New Englander, because the Southerner would be to obvious an answer.

lol..of course!

Although to mess you up it should be the other way around...that would be truly tricky! Actually, the typical New Englander eats over TWICE as much ice cream as a Southerner in a year. Guess cold is a relative thing...

Ok, no more Mr Nice Guy:>>>

Do you know:

(Part 1) The currents odds that you will be killed by a plane or other object falling from the sky?

Part 2 (extra credit)-- Do you know the odds of it happening TODAY?

Ooooh...math.....😕 😕 Q

First Soldier Killed In American Civil War

The first to die was Col. Ephraim E. Ellsworth, commanding officer of the New York Fire Zouaves. They were a US Volunteer Infantry regiment recruited entirely from FDNY. His unit invaded Alexandria, VA in May 1861 to secure the approaches to Washington. He saw the Stars and Bars flying from the roof of the Marshall House Hotel, went up and tore it down. At the foot of the stairs, the Reb hotelkeeper lit him up with a shotgun. The hotelkeeper lived about 5 seconds longer - Private Francis E. Brownell put paid to him with a Minie ball.

New Question: The so-called Boston Massacre was an incident in pre-Revolution Boston where Redcoats fired on a mob that had been throwing snowballs, and then paving stones, at a sentry. Several of the mob were killed. The soldiers were tried for murder and acquitted. Their lawyer was a shady self-promoter, the Johnnie Cochran of his day. Who was he?

Clarence Darrow! oh, wait... wrong century's Cochran. 🙂

Q????
Math - BAD!

Dying by having an actual airplane fall on you??? Hmmmmm I'm not sure, but the odds of dying in an airline or space related accident are near 1 in 4,073.

Dying in a fireworks accident
1 in 1,733,250

Getting a royal flush in five-card poker
1 in 649,739

Being struck by lightening
1 in 600,000

So, being the logical person that I am, I am going to go play with some bottlerockets next time I think about flying to Mars. 😛

Jo....the smartest girl in the world. 😉 Now...where are my fuzzy pink slippers?

by no means an expert opinion...

I would have to say that turd tapers are a result of the contracting or relaxing (not sure which exactly) of the anal sphincter. Any persons with medical knowledge care to respond?

I'm guessing Red is looking for another answer:

"So your arse doesn't slam shut!"

Red Indian....to the bad corner!!! NOW!

OK, ummmm...EWWWWWWWWW
----------------------

I just found out a neato factoid today about people and their horses as they appear in statues around the world.

If a horse is standing on all four feet, if it has one foot held up, or if the horse is raised up on it's two back legs, it each means something differently in regard to historic fact. *Or so they say*

Any guesses?
