The did you know thread

The way I heard it, if the statue has all four feet on the ground, the rider died naturally; if the statue has one foot raised, the rider was wounded in battle and died later; and if the horse is rearing back, the rider died in battle.

It's not true, though. Sorry.

Charles.

And actually... his middle name is just "J." (unlike Bart, who has Jo-Jo). My question is, what INSPIRED Matt Groening to give him that middle name?

interesting query blankpage...

of course, when you say the full name (fast, and muffled...lol)...it almost sounds like "O. J. Simpson."

hehehe

No, his middle name is in fact Jay. It was painted on the side of the barn in the hippie farm that his mother stayed in briefly. She painted a mural of him called "Let your spirit soar", and at the bottom is said "for my son Homer Jay Simpson".

It was in the episode in which Homer ruined the hippies whole shipment of juice, and then replaced it with their "secret crops". The whole episode started with Bart and Lisa asking Homer what the J stood for.

Oh yea, I forgot about that episode.

In any case, MG put the "J." in Homer's name in tribute of Jay Ward (of Rocky & Bullwinkle fame).
