What a treat, this newest chapter! I did not expect it to arrive so soon, but it's fantastic as always, if not better.
Thank you, Scav!
😱 You're really spoiling me, and always have done so... such a wealth of detailed, in-depth response! I'm very pleased this chapter appeared to arrive quickly... to me, it seemed to take forever to complete! But the sooner, the better! There's still and awfully long way to go!
The feeling of uneasyness is even more present than in previous chapters, truly lovecraftian in style; suggesting the brooding horror that's just lurking behind every corner, but the worst is never visible... (and there's more lovecraft-style Mythos in this story; like the dreamworld, the Chtonian-like monstrosities that tickle the brown guy and let's not forget the terror that lurks in the cellar) Lovecraftian, but given shape in such a way that makes it totally new and original.
Thank you for saying so! The "crawling chaos" at the incantation is the first overt bit of Lovecraftean influence I've attempted to insert into the story, but you're entirely right... his presence has hovered over this series from the beginning! He could hardly help but do so... I've read and doted on the Cthulhu Mythos since late elementary school (I went rather straight-line from Poe to Lovecraft... the dark never really seems empty when you spend time with these guys! XD) I've always felt that he was devilishly difficult to adapt into visual mediums... the Lovecraftean stuff you
don't or
can't see is always the most potent, the menace most likely to suck you dry.
The cameo's were fantastic as always, I really enjoyed the conversation scene of those two dream warriors. 🙂 But also the Ceshire Cat scene is a memorable one. The Cat is an almost monstrous appearance, it gave me a feeling like the sooner Mercy and her companion are out of there the better.
I'm glad to hear that! I tried to endow this version of Cheshire with a corpulence that was deceptive (sort of like the Spiderman villain, Kingpin, where the mountainous rolls of seeming fat were actually hardened muscle). The sense should be that he could take these girls at any moment he chose; it was simply more fun to pester and play with them!
It's also great to see how old threads of the story -the fat inventor kid, for example- are reintroduced, deepening the plot yet again. A lot of planning must have gone into the whole project up till now.
The story's plot is so immediate in my mind, I often forget that many of these characters haven't been seen by the readers for months! These chapters will definitely play to better effect once the series is complete and everything can be read as an unbroken continuum. On the plus side, the length of production does allow me plenty of time to fix plot details precisely where and how I want them, something that might elude me if I had to work more quickly.
Again, this was a fantastic episode. It gave me chills. Really.
Thank you for creating! 🙂
To receive kudos from such a towering talent as yourself give me chills of my own, everything I'll need to sustain me through Chapter 10 and beyond! Thank you, my friend!
BLOODY BRILLIANT!!!! As usual I am impressed beyond words at your knack for story telling and an artistic talent unique only onto you. I gotta say I never perceived my Cheshire Cat character quite so menacing of a persona but I love the way you presented him here nonetheless....BRAVO!!!!
Treasured compliments from one of the community's best-loved talents! Your cameo appearance started life as shadowy and unofficial... I'm so pleased to be able correct that status at last! Menacing this incarnation of Cheshire may be, but joyfully playful and comfortably in command! Mercy and Angie will never forget him! My major regret is that I didn't figure in a larger role for Cali... her graphic lines and attitude were really starting to feel comfortable to my hand; like so many of the forum's classic characters, one can't fully appreciate the beauty of the design until one attempts to replicate it! My already lofty respect ascends several notches further!
Jolly good show all around! Your cameos were excellent: Chesire and his Cali looked fine indeed! The K-man was a funny one - "Goofball in yon side pocket," eh? 😛 May we see more of the chivalrous one! That nightmare he fought reminds me a bit of David Lynch's interpretation of the Navigators of Dune. I wonder, though, what stirs beneath the floor of the old mill. It worried the coven member well enough ...
As ever, my thanks for your very kind support, HDS! Hey, the Dreamtime demon
does look a lot like David Lynch's guild steersman! It's the gas-bag effect, I think! And I'm delighted I could reflect some measure of Kal and Cheshire's unique personas! With such ready inspiration, my creative capabilities needn't be taxed in the slightest! Don't get too comfortable, incidentally... you're own cameo is slated for early Chapter 10!
Eagerly awaited, and NOT disappointed! The plot is getting more intricate was we go, and it is marvelous. With all the hideous beasties you've created thus far, I'm not even daring to guess what this thing beneath the floor is...
:::joins the others waiting in line for Chap 10:::
Most kind of you, Hawk! My grateful thanks! As you note, I'm mad for tangled plots (which is okay, as long as the readers aren't lost along the way!) I hope indeed that the thing beneath the floorboards will prove a potent horror; and a vaguely familiar one... not for what it is, but for what it has become. Gods, I just love to be obscure! You have my full permission to take aim and fire!
Maybe the Bounce Chix are hiding under the floor!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!
Ooops.... ahem..... sorry about that. Yeah - probably not.
But it'll rule, whatever it is 😛
B
Can't be the Chix! Algathrax wouldn't be turning up his nose... he'd never want to leave the basement! XD None of the rest of the male Coven members, either! And doubtless none of
us, either!
Great interpretation/adaptation of the characters of our fellow artists. Another great chapter. Very interesting plot for this chapter. Freaky, in a good way, dream anteater-type creature. Can't wait for chapter 10. :super_hap
Thanks so much, Rajee! :super_hap It's been such a challenge and so much fun to try to adapt the likenesses and characters of so many of our much-loved fellow forum members! A real stretching exercise! And it's given me such a deep appreciation for the level of talent active on these forums... the design-work is so original and so fine!
I'm glad you liked the hapless Dreamtime demon! Without revealing too much, despite appearances, we may not have seen the last of that one...
