In the early days of the US Mint, a worker smuggled coins from the building by hiding them within a dead rat and tossing it out of an open window. Since no one would touch a dead rat, the coins would be there when he went to pick them up after his shift. He was caught when he stuffed to many coins in one rat and it exploded. 😀 Some say this is why the Mint has no windows that open today.
