The Self Referential Thread

Although the Cyclones are a Mets farm team, the management is smart enough to want to attract the many thousands of old Dodger fans and their families who still live in the borough of Brooklyn. There is a life-sized bronze statue of Pee Wee Reese and Jackie Robinson outside their stadium. 😀 😛

Smart move. Good for business and makes lots of people happy. 😀

Hi Kurchiecakes :3poke:
Hi Mils :3poke:
Marketing and Money is good for any sport, I'd think.

Quite true. Unfortunately many teams forget that you need to keep the fans happy so they turn up too events and buy stuff. 😀

😛 😀

The Dodgers are among the best teams in that regard. 😀 😛

The biggest fans are the ones that come to the games and support the teams. In Boston, there are die-hard fans. They come to games no matter the weather.

Unfortunately not. I've seen them in the National League Championship Series back in 1988, but not in the World Series.
😀 😛

A NLC game is pretty cool too though. 😎 A World Series win though would be really neat though. :yayzorz:

😀 😛

They would need to get into the World Series against the Yankees, Orioles, or Red Sox. Those are the teams where a one-day trip is feasible. 😀 😛

The Yankees and Dodgers seem quite possible this year. I'm hoping. 😀 😛

It is very hard to predict now that there are two post-season series to win before a team gets to the World Series. 😱
😀 😛

Yes very true. Unpredictability is good in a way though makes everyone feel they have a chance. 😀 😛

That is correct. The Wild Card was introduced in baseball precisely to keep the fans of 6 or 8 marginally contending teams interested to the very end of the season. 😀 😛

Yes, the other major sports (football, basketball, hockey) did it first and baseball copied it. 🙁
😀 😛
