The Self Referential Thread

Call it good fortune and a touch of instinct. I have yet to challenge God's elect, at least as they assemble hereabouts.

I'll dedicate my sig, for today, to you, milagros. Like we never say around here, it's a desert out there.

But did you really think I didn't know the commonest form behind the abbreviation "CDL"? Sometimes I do get a bit obtuse searching for humor ...
Actually, I had never seen the phrase "Commercial Driver's License" until seeing Zod use it here on the TMF. 😛

😀 😛

A Japanese anime called Girls und Panzer. It was said by one of the team's in episode six.

I should have known. It's perfect!

Okay, I understand. I made a poorly calculated assumption. Isn't there a list somewhere of famous New Yorkers who have never been behind the wheel?

I am so addicted to that show. It has great background music. 😀 😛

So what's new, Kurch?

milagros317 has been patient with me and my all-too-dry sense of humor, tonight. Maybe it's because we are co-conspirators. I learned tonight that my idea is not a new one.

Taking care of my widdle baby plants. I should have lots of flowers I hope come spring for my art work.

You are most welcome my friend and thanks. :ty:

You are most welcome.

Win Desktops

Anyway, I've been at the Technet again, and so I am wasted on code as we post. MS subsidiary Sysinternals let me downlow, e-r-r, shcushe me, download, an application called Desktops.

Find it here --

Anybody who's ever messed with Linux knows that one of its distinctive features is multiple desktops/an outsized desktop. With either implementation, you get another technique to support your multitasking.

The Sysinternals mechanism is hindered by Windows basic architecture. It will not support drag-and-drop from desktop to desktop. It also won't support multiple browser sessions in separate desktops, although you can run multiples on one desktop.

That's a real wtf of an annoyance, and certainly one reason MS has gone the other way from the Desktop paradigm. But the multiple desktops are cool, once you learn to deal with their shortcomings.

If anyone decides to try it, I'll be interested in your opinion.

Sounds interesting. 🙂 Thanks for the link. :ty: As a 3d digital artist. I am often stuck with software that has yet to be updated to a newer version of windows. This is a problem as upgrades can be very pricey and sometimes they are just not available. So if there were something lets say to run Windows XP desktpop and Windows 7 desktop that would be cool. I am trying to avoid the dreaded Windows 8 "turn my pc into a smartphone" OS. 😛

I got yer desktop, buddy! Really, I mean. I do.

... if there were something lets say to run Windows XP desktpop and Windows 7 desktop that would be cool.

I think that's virtualization. You would start with Win8 as your OS, update your graphics packages, then install VMWare and run your XP plant in a virtual machine.

But, unless you need XP to support legacy work, that's actually a silly way to spend your money. Before I'd do that, I'd set up a SOHO network with the WinXp machine for routine "comfort" applications, then start migrating to the Win8 with my breadwinner app.

Am I understanding your situation at all?

By the way, bleepingcomputer.com does. They have an article that explains how to run Win8 from a desktop.

Can we avoid Windows 8 all together. Or at least use Windows 8.1. I would really like Windows 7. Perhaps I can run the Windows XP software on Windows 7. Most of the newer versions of windows have a option to have the OS try to run the software anyway. You just need to tell the computer what the latest version of windows it will run on. Whatever the case I am looking for the easiest solution. 😀 I am lazy. 😛

You're not lazy, you're just application-oriented. Since the app is where you make your money, nobody can blame you if you want the hardware and the OS to be simple, bulletproof and cheap.

You'll probably have to settle for two out of three.

Microsoft tried to kill XP last month. Too many utility users have decided that we cannot justify the expense of abandoning our perfectly good XP machines -- especially not for a new interface that makes the most sense of all to a teenager!

I think XP has another year in it, and that Win7 will last as long as the real unemployed number is north of seven percent.

How's that for a double-edged prediction?

Exactimundo. :iagree:

I think XP will be around awhile longer. Its works too well to kill. Its quite unlike Windows ME was LOL

I think Windows 7 will be around for a long time cause unemployment wont be under 7 for quite some time I think 😉 😛

I think you'll be just fine with Win7. Of course, this is a dialogue you still must share with your client base. You can only practice on me. But, if I have inoculated you against the next computer salesman to pound on your door, I have done my bit.

And with the last post, I have hit a benchmark. I am now a Regular. I'm telling you, as soon as the software hung that "Novice" tag on me, I felt it every time I sat down at the message board. At just under fifty-six, I'm not a novice anything, thank you very much.

At least not now that I am over the hump at the TMF!

Credit where due, I'm pretty certain I'd still be frowning over it if not for this thread. That said, I'm calling it. I'm puttin' a T on it.

Good night, Kurchatovium! I enjoyed wielding my cybersword in your virtual skirmish.
Good night, milagros317! Have you really never had a driver's license?
Good night, Ticklish Angel! Whatever you wear, it's nearly as good as L' Air du Temps.
Good night, all!

Congratulations!

Way to go my friend. :yourock: I am just under 56 too 😉 😛
