Whoa! Lenses like that have got to cost a lot!

I remember when I was younger, lenses of certain styles would cost upward of five hundred dollars.

Perhapse they are cheaper now.
 
Yeah, a lot cheaper now, you can get throw away ones that are cheap and tacky 🙂 . I don't wear em all the time, but occasionally they are good to scare old people 😛 .

By the way, on a totally different note, what culture is the helmet from on your avatar? It looks kind of greek/Roman to me, but I'm no real expert to be honest.

What's so great about it?
It is a late medieval [or early renaissance, depending on your books] Italian nasal helm.

It dates about early XV cent. and it was a common field conversion, later turned "mass produced" variant, of a widely employed piece of personal gear, the open-faced bascinet.

Scholars rarely agree on its proper name, and several likely-shaped helms usually go under different names, depending on the angle of the plates, the presence of a visor, and the optional parts you could affix to it.
