What the hell is happening with this guy? Is it something like 8 people he's shot now? The Australian press are saying he's using really high powered and advanced rifles, so it's likely he's an ex-army or gun-club guy.

How are the cops handling it? Are the streets closed? Are people afraid? I'm really surprised at how little attention it's getting, considering someone who is an excellent shot is stalking the city with a rifle and taking people out.

It's a very suspicious state of affairs. The sniper does not follow the pattern of a disturbed person: his victims are too random and don't share any apparent commonality. These may well be terrorist acts of a political nature - not necessarily militant Muslims, perhaps a domestic group.

Going on from that EQ, I would be willing to bet my pension that when he's caught he's diagnosed as suffering from Split Personality Disorder, or Diassociative Identity Disorder.

New Disorder...

Running around shooting 13 year old kids will cause this guy to suffer a whole new type of disorder, Jim. Hope he lives to see trial, for the sake of the parents of that young man. I have a feeling he's saving a bullet for himself, sometimes known as the "easy way out".... Q

Interesting you should say that Q. Although there wasn't much of his brain left to examine after he put a bullet through it, Thomas Hamilton was later said to have been suffering from classic SPD/DID symptoms. The investigation afterwards (which was largely geared by the police to seeing that they didn't get in the shit for not withdrawing his gun license earlier) interviewed several people who were familiar with him, who described exactly the correct things. There is a whole lot more to that sort of case than meets the public eye.

It's Osama.

That reminds me of the British sit-com 2.4 Children. (Our equivalent of Married With Children.) Every time something went wrong, the wife would say.........

"It's bloody Thatcher!" lol

Sick ****. There's a special place in hell for this moron.

Looks like victim no.9.We'll know for sure later.

The weapon reportedly being used is a .223 caliber rifle, which is not considered as high-powered,although it is high velocity.

Possible motives:
Terrorists

nutbag

pair of kill-for-thrill sickos...seen that in this area years ago.

serial killer

spree killer

Some have suggested that it is even a radical animal rights group,as hunting season is around the corner and a nearby town,Silver Springs,
is home to a few such organizations. Two of them are on the FBI terrorist group list. This suggestion has about the same credibility as the gun-club guy one.

Whoever it is, he or she shoots pretty well and should be executed ASAP after conviction. Unless Big Jim is right and he gets to share a room with Hinkley.

I doubt he's a terrorist. The Tarot card with the note "Dear Policeman, I am god," makes me think he's just some looney who's watched too many Mel Gibson/Bruce Willis movies. He's acting like he's the frickin' master villain of the next Lethal Weapon/Die Hard sequel.

Thought I'd but in my two cents as a person from the area (the first five shootings were all within a couple of miles from my house, and the shooting in DC was three blocks from my work);

People here are pretty freaked by the situation. People I work with refuse to walk to the gas station less than a block away. I put off getting gas this week, because this guy is obviously staking out gas stations. Every where you go, folks are uneasy. And there is a lot of speculation that this person might be warming up for something bigger. Or that the truck he's driving might be rigged with a bomb. It's nerve wracking. Pray this never happens in your neighborhood.

My opinion: he's gotta be some kind of ex-army, ex-cop, or just plain gun-nut. Where else would anyone learn to shoot like this?

Good luck getting petrol Bulldogge! We all wish you luck 😀

My sympathies, Bulldogge. 🙁 Hope you're still around when this whole nightmare ends. It's bad enough worrying about international terrorists, now we've got a loony in our own backyard. :sowrong:

Biggles, this guy isn't Carlos Hathcock. He's not making 1000 yard kills. He hasn't done anything he couldn't have done with a single shot Snider Enfield, circa 1866.

Let's hope he gets to ride the lightning for his trouble. I don't want this bastard sharing my air.

Strelnikov

Shooting Clubs

Strels right...the shooting is GOOD, but not beyond the skill and proficiency of anyone who practices at a local shooting range. What IS better than average is the camo he's (she?)using. Obviously there's a lot of preparation going into finding these spots. My suggestion is to act prudently and scout the area yourself, thinking as though you were in this idiots frame of mind. I'm sure there's many gas stations with good line of sight views, so you need to take the time to find the more secluded ones without that sort of visual access. I assume he's targeting gas stations because it's a place where the victims are out of their vehicles and holding STILL for the most part, which also lends credibility to his shooting prowess being average. A military sniper understands the concepts of leading and the drop of a bullet at various ranges, as well as wind conditions and many other factors. This clown is simply staking out spots that allow an easy sighting and shot.
The only way to catch a random spree shooter like this is with observant citizens who have the right attitude. You need to wonder WHY that guy is driving around with binoculars around his neck in town ....what is he doing staring intently at a gas station or other location? He WILL make a mistake, but people have to be vigilant and amke an effort to spot things out of the ordinary. Hopefully soon....this is a tragedy. Q

The sad thing is Q, that even after he's fried or been dropped down a hole for Life Without Parole, people will still be super paranoid and checking out others. Soon no police will be needed, because we'll be policing ourselves.

Perspective

I live in the DC area and have been following this as most of who live here have. Although I can't deny his behavior hasn't caused me stress, I remind myself that there is a risk of dying every day from an accident (especially from individuals who drive aggressively on the beltway), another terrorist incident (anthrax, plane, etc. ) or something yet to come. I can't become prisoner to it. Yet, I admit, I need to be observant, aware of my surroundings at all times. Sound advice whether it's this sniper or the next threat. I can't help but think of how many people stayed clear of the ocean after Jaws when the risk of getting hit by a car on the way to the ocean far exceeded the risk of being eaten by a shark.

I agree that we shouldn't be held prisoner by this madman, but unless you're wearing a helmet and a bulletproof vest, why shouldn't you avoid the gas station, or at least put it off until you have to fill up? That's all I'm saying, otherwise, live your life as if this crazie doesn't even exist. (I hate saying, "Be vigilant," that sounds like I'm implying we're not!) 🙂

P.S. I guess you CAN get gas, but watch out for any white minivans! 😛

I agree you should take precautions. But his victims haven't been limited to gas stations as the poor student in PG County and the victims at the Michaels have found out. I don't think there is a precaution you can take, at this point, other than to be aware of your surroundings. If his next 5 victims are at gas stations, I will reassess.

Good points, Blackrook. I guess I'm worried over nothing because I get gas so often. Those electric vehicles you can charge up at home sound good to me right about now--if only they were affordable! 😀

Ford Escape with fuel cell

Supposedly Ford has a version of its mini Sport Ute, the Escape with a hydrogen fuel cell that gets 40 mpg in the city. But if its $40K (don't know what they are asking), they will have to throw in the bullet proof glass.

Yeah this really sucks ass. I, too, live in the DC area, and this is no picnic. The chances of getting shot are pretty slim, but it's still just plain sad that we have to worry about that sort of thing just going to pick up a kid from school or getting gas or shopping. All athletic events have been cancelled at all the schools, most have been in lockdown (they let kids in, but they stay inside all day). Every white boxtruck on the road gets stopped by the police, they are obviously taking this very seriously (with good reason). Hopefully this will blow over soon...:sowrong:

Until then, I'm just going to hide in my makeshift fort made of matresses in my basement, and I'm not coming out except to check the forum :scared:
