Who is your favorite tickling artist and why?

Kalamos said:
But the local legends won't need praise.
Whyever do people bother to?
It's pointless.
It's not like they would say thanks, anyway.
And they surely won't do commissions for them, either.

...

What about new artists and the "about time a good artist joined" remarks?
How can we cope with that?
Feels like fighting uphill.

...

Bah, I need an ego three-size my shirt.
It's a system that ultimately rewards not the best artist, but the best survivor.
He who posts last, wins.

It's not a matter of them not needing it (in their mind or in the public's mind or not), its about people freely choosing to give it to them and them freely choosing to accept it...even if they're has beens, yesterday's news, or whatever.

Nothing is expected of them, that I see. They live in semi-retirement, but enjoy the same satisfaction that I mentioned in my last post about being happy with your station and where you are.

Is there something wrong with those kind of remarks you're refering to? It's not taking the idols for granted, and, to me, when and if people make those remarks, its just out of excitement. The excitement of having new talent to watch.

No one is being forsaken. The only uphill battle is the one you make for yourself.

As for your last comment, there are times when that is true, but you can't change these people.

Just get better as an artist and be happy with your own success and growing skills. Don't regurgitate old and past glory, or anything like that.

Be in the moment and present and proud of what you're able to do NOW. People know the score anyways, and even if other people get more attention, people already know you're like more skilled than the newer people, so theres no need to compete for their attention to prove you're worthy. You either already are or you are not.

Good pointers.
Thanks.

...

You are actually useful.
Can't understand why they keep telling me otherwise. 🙂

...

* Hobbles away pondering the words of wisdom thus far gleaned *

I don't know that they were very good pointers. To me, it just common sense really. You're welcome though.

Of course I'm useful. ^^ That doesn't change because of mere opinions, good or bad. Opinions change all the time, so I don't put much stock in them. I can tell which way the wind is going to blow, so I ride it. Just like how what people think about this issue shouldn't change how hard you try with your art.

You're either under the influence or above it. Like that anti-drug commericial says.

I deeply pondered your words and, all in all, I think this passage admirably sums it up.
I should not be obliged to adjust my production just to garner half-hearted lauds from uncaring casual viewers.

...

I'll be taking a more "pre-emptive" approach, from now on.

Vlad and Kal...

Never been in here, just curious today.

This is just an opinion. Maybe a reality check, I don't know.

Look where you are. Inside a very unique, hidden away forum where 90+% of the people are afraid to even converse, let alone post pics and interactively share. The ability for those other brave ones to have a captive audience here and get some feedback would seem like heaven. You get to openly enjoy the topic here, post your ideas displayed at any level of talent, and likely be thanked [eventually]. Where could this happen outside the forum? Some of the artists you're talking about would not sit out on the hillside and draw the last remaining tree overlooking their grandma's grave and then take it to pass around the family reunion for compliments. In here, anything goes. And that's okay. Who are we to tell someone not to go through a sketch pad every day and post it. I didn't say it wasn't over the top, just well within their right.

Those who seem more popular may hold the key in the fact that they take alot of requests. Or maybe they just overhear someone talking and come back with an unsolicited pic for them. You guys don't really do that because it's more about the drawing than it is the rapid fire output. I appreciate everyone's effort, but I can see where it's just good for them to come back with a pic they know someone has been waiting to see.

I've played in a really good band for a long time, and nothing irritates me faster than seeing a lame band get booked a the same places we do. But here's the truth: Being good and being popular have nothing to do with ability. If they're entertained, you win. You can play the most difficult song in the world perfectly and they don't acknowledge you because it's not what they wanna hear. You can play some crappy bar tune they love and sing it way out of key and forget the words and they love you for playing what they like.

I don't post much here and never expect a compliment because I'm not really driven to sit and bang out tickle pics. If I were ever inclined to do one, I'd take my time like you guys do and I'd wanna be proud of it myself before throwing it out there. Honestly... I'm the judge of my work, not anyone else. If it gets to the point where I can say, "yeah... that's good", then nothing anyone else says detracts from that because I know I put everything into it. If I rushed something and threw it out and someone picked up on it's flaws, I'd feel like a total douchebag.

I knew in school that the title of "best guy in the class" was relative bullshit. I was conscientious and focused on my stuff and it's come out great. The rest of the idiots put their stuff up beside mine and it sucked. They'd try to sribble something out before class so they didn't get accused of not trying :weird: And I kept telling the senior prof "I don't wanna be good compared to all these guys that stink, I wanna be good compared to someone really good." Where's the glory in being the top of a pile of crap?

I think that's the way to look at it. I'm not calling anyone here crap. Alot of these artists are entertaining themselves and others, it keeps the forums juiced, people see a fantasy kinda played out on paper once in a while, and no harm done. Trust me, I know it's like being Clark Kent at the beginning of the Superman movie where he's the equipment manager and he wants to bust out and he tells his dad "If you'd just let me play, I could score a touchdown every time."

You guys know you have a deeper interest and skill level. How could you not? Like I posted in another thread, I instinctively wanna jump in with pointers when I see stuff, but why? Not everyone is really looking to sharpen their skills. And you can tell when someone takes some notes because all of a sudden, after 25 off pics, the next one shows up with foreshortening or the body is proportioned better, shading occurs. Bottom line is that nothing takes away from your skill regardless of what others do or don't do. Plus, I don't wanna be a dickhead about trying to show people up. If their open minded, I encourage them to really make a step forward. Look at alot of these stuff that comes through. You two are already in a different class because I know from your posts that you use reference material. YOU HAVE TO! But we get alot of people who assume they know what a foot looks like and just goes to town out of thin air. Everybody who's making money at this uses a reference. Hell, the guy before me at the airbrushing studio would take your pic back and put it in a projector and transfer it onto the shirt by TRACING IT. Big cheater, right? No, he came out and airbrushed a near perfect duplicate of what you brought him, the client was thrilled and was excited to pay and go show everyone. I'm going out on a limb assuming that was the point in the first place. If he just sits and draws what he thinks a '71 Nova kinda looks like, the nut that's in love with his car will notice EVERYTHING that's a micrometer off.

Damn this got long.

Lastly, forget the pro/amateur concept. It's not about being paid to do it, because the kid that wants $5 to shovel my walk in the winter isn't a professional shoveler because I paid him. I workd in a bank for a few years doing art on the side and getting paid, but I wasn't a pro artist. I think the line is drawn at what I've done. I make a living doing it and it's my income, not a hobby or an occasional $50 for pizza money. You can be skilled like a mad m-f'er, but until it pays your bills, I call it an interest. There are some wickedly talented dancers on tv right now that are getting whittled down to a single winner. They all have professional level skill, but the ones going home will be the most talented people unloading freight trucks that WalMart has ever seen.

Right. 🙂

It's good you realize you're not obliged to anything and no one is saying you are. You needn't self-impose anything on yourself, especially if its not going to make you feel better about what you're doing.

Actually... mauling random people makes me feel good.
It's not paying pizza, but it's more than just an interest.
Maybe it's a knack?
Or mayhap a fetish...?

😀

And don't you EVER apologize for it. Sometimes, the things that need to be said can't properly be put in a mere paragraph and it shouldn't be forced to.

If theres one thing I've always enjoyed about the way I post, its the satisfaction of knowing I said everything I wanted to, the way I wanted to, and that I can be confident about that and not second guess it.

Anyways, yes, you're preaching to the choir really. The point is not whether or not money is being made, its how you feel about yourself, how happy you are with your own work, and making your forum situation to where you don't actually need others to compliment you, but when they do its a bonus. This is what I was telling Kalamos.

Basically, just fall in love with your art. If you can't fall in love with it, then fall in love with the creation of it. Get high off of that, because thats the feeling that keeps artists going. That excitement. Love what you do MORE than what others will say (or won't) about it.

Don't think about the reward you'll get from others in responses and comments. Think about the reward you've given yourself in simply being able to do what you do. You draw because you can. You're special. Make yourself happy first and others will be happy with you and for you.

Being able to draw anything is it's own reward. We are only limited by our imagination, and to let one forum (a tickling fetish forum no less) to limit us is a horrible mistake, especially when a majority of the people are only looking for one thing.

I'm able to share my non-fetish work because I understand this and am happy with myself. If that means 80% of the folks here won't give a damn about my art because theres no tickling, then so be it. I could honestly care less because I'm grade-A happy, yo! 😛

We all have our dark side. So if mauling folks gets you off, then good for you, I guess. 😛

I don't quite consider it "dark" as such.
I would call it my... mmm... assertive side taking point in the squad.

At the risk of sounding like a sellout, I'm even past the love of the art. I love being able to do it, but ask a gymnast how thrilled he is every day to do a back handspring. No big deal. What is a big deal, however, are the Olympics and the winning of the big one. As a designer, I like solving someone's problems. Doing the job right and seeing that everyone is glad they came to me to do it is more rewarding for me at this point. I've already accpeted that I can sit in a room and draw. The next step is finding a way to apply it. I like the process of someone showing me an empy room of drywall studs and telling me they need this to be the centerpoint of a $2billion company's world headquarters. I sniff around for technology, pick light fixtures, laminates, do the graphic design of the interactive holographic system, design the architecture that it gets housed in... everything... then I sit down and do a rendering of it [digitally] The mechanics of producing this picture of it is less of a thrill at this point than conceptualizing the idea and solving his problem. The pic is the end result of the process that I enjoy more now. I still love being able to do it, though.

Sorry, everyone. Getting off topic and chatting. Favorite artist? ME!! HAH!!! I'm a complete narcissist. I LOVE ME!

I'm being rude. Someone else chime in here with what they like about me...

If you started worshipping me, I could tell you...

My God does not permit worshipping anyone besides him. How about an unparalled level of admiration?

I would gladly allow you to worship other deities.
By myself, I would even allow you to hang out together!
Some jealous goddity you've gotten yourself, man.

That's true. But he's good to me. He's good to everybody. He's good. That's God with a spare "o".

I don't buy much this whole "good" thing.
I'm more into neutral.
Chaotic Neutral.

...

Though Chaotic job.
Somebody's gotta do it though.

When will you two realize that you'll just never be able to compete with nessie? 9_9

That's it , i retire. I can't compete with that.

I once drew a white cat building a snowman that looked surprising like that.

*waits for about 5 minutes for Kimiko's picture to load before he finally realises that that's it*

Yeah, that's the artistic similarities you see 😉 .

Hey at least you can make as many prints of it as you want without wasting too much ink.
