Any predictions on what is going to happen to this guy? ... If he gets taken out, what country ? or perhaps independent group or individual ?

I wish I could say "Me!" but I can't afford a gun, lol. I've got no clue who's going to kill him, but I think if he goes to jail for that rape charge, then by the time he gets out, the public might've forgotten about him. They can't get him for treason, because he's not a U.S. citizen, but he might as well be a traitor to the entire free world.

He's gonna get whacked, just you wait and see.

Seriously, I think the man is fully aware of what his chances for survival are if the "intelligence community" ever gets the drop on him.

Maybe not
Sweden has VERY Hai legal standards!!

I think the guy is going to get nuked eventually but he printed some very intersting stuff thus far. It's like you can't stop reading it! He will probably be "Time" person of the year. In the majority of countries they don't have a Freedom of Speech clause/act and he will go down one way or the other... Fortunately? Unfortunately?

Guy Assange is a hero, a man that despite the iminant chace of getting killed by a extremist dared to challenge the US government and show the world their true face.

A finger in the face of the leaders, a finger saying "I am a free man with the right to say what I want, and Im not gonna listen to your bullshit anymore!"

Long live democracy!

I agree but I,m not certain that he will keep his freedom much longer as he is now being accused of rape. If he is guilty he should be prosecuted but doesn,t the timing of this accusation seem a bit too convenient or is it a case of: people in glass houses shouldn,t throw stones. I certainly hope that it isn,t the latter, at least for his sake. If governments decide to take him down and use the media to help, I pity him, and they won,t need firearms.

I hope that you are right and that the rape charge is false but he has made some powerful enemies.

I'm in UK and yes, he is being questioned by Metropolitan Police for not the leaks, but rape allegations!

There is a good editorial about Assange and Wikileaks at Wired.com.

Intro:

A truly free press — one unfettered by concerns of nationalism — is apparently a terrifying problem for elected governments and tyrannies alike.

It shouldn’t be.

I dont think so!
If that happens very damaging files will be released automatically.
Not good for any government!...
Even with assange arrested more info will be made public because of the web sites staff!
He has a very hie profile now executing a kill order now would be Very BAD PR!!!!!!!.
Sweden would not be happy nor UK & the EU would go nuts!!!.
Sweden is not to happy with the US at the moment because of foreign policy disagreements
So if your The CIA or MI5 or MI6 or Mosod or russian SVR/FSB/GRU or Swedish intelligence or GSG9 or DGSE / SDECE its hands off!!!.

I'm hoping he'll dissapear. People 'hail' him as a hero. But I don't see much 'heroic' about him. He leaked for instance the strategy of the arabian and US nations vs Iran and confirmed the location of certain nuclear weapons.
Sure people got a good laugh (or cry?) out of the insults diplomats basically slingshot towards key worldfigures but people haven't thought through that a lot info has now been confirmed that should have stayed secret.
Diplomacy and global strategy are dirty and so they should be. Bashing the US is a 'hot thing' in Europe, but people seem to fail to take into account everyone else plays dirty too. So the only thing that has happened is that a Western ally got crippled or at the least seriously embarassed (which means a loss of prestige, which in turn weakens negociations).
The fact some people come in with statements 'Yeah but they screen this info and don't release things that are dangerous!' are highly dubious.
1) Some stuff that was released is potentially dangerous.
2) Given the fact they can't read minds and know nothing of the background of certain longterm objectives they may unknowingly release important info.
3) Who are THEY as 'defenders' of democracy to dictate what is to be known and what not?

Efficient politics and more importantly effective STATESMANSHIP demand secrecy, cunning and dirty play. Idealism does not work well with Machiavellism.
I don't care what my politicians do short term as long as the long term effect is positive.
By releasing everything about everything as a lot of people demand in response to this nonsense means there will be no long term. At least in the Western side of things.

Bashing the US government has been the "in thing" for many years, it started right after the 2nd World War after they took all the credit for winning it, although it took them two years to become involved and only after Pearl Harbour. They call themselves the worlds only superpower but most countries see them as the bullies of the world{not the people, the Government}. They went into Iraq for oil, expecting that there would be little resistance, they knew that there were no weapons of mass detruction because they themselves were the ones who armed Iraq in the first place so they would be able to stop the Soviet invasion. They helped Sadaam Hussein become leader. It backfired though and they found themselves in a quagmire{no offence Bob} similar to Viet Nam, only worse. George Bush and Dick {Haliburton} Cheney tried to act like John Wayne and were certainly Machiavellianists during there watch, but Bush was in the "Champagne Division" of the National Guard when he showed up at all and Cheney had something like 5 deferments, they didn,t fight, but had no conscience about sending other peoples children into battle for 4-5 tours. Now President Obama is sending troops to where they should have stayed from the beginning{if they went at all, they probably shoud have done a few air strikes and then come home} Afganistan and Pakistan but it may be too late. I know all countries are corrupt at the top and I hope that Wiki Leaks pick them all off one by one and find what lobbyists are in bed with which Politicians, no matter what country they come from and what underhanded tactics and coverups they employ. If Wiki Leaks goes down, another will take it,s place. The public have the right to know what kind of people and agencies are supposedly defending them, looking out for them and there best interests and how they go about accomplishing it, and they will, the genie is already out of the bottle.

Wiki Leaks has done nothing constructive whatsoever. Except damage one party (and arguable several allies or potential allies)

Which potential allies?

For instance in the Iran matter? Regarding the US - neighbouring Islamic states that felt threatened by Iran? Now they're going to back up again afraid of the regional bully.

Basically Wikileak only damaged US-European diplomacy. The competing sides basically just got a leg up and a lot of ammo.
Now publish the same thing for EVERY nation and I don't mind.
Because if this is just about irrational hatred for the US then this discussion is over. Historically and currently there are A LOT of nations who've done worse things and been more hypocrite or just as bad. In fact I fail to think of any sin-free nation or country devoid of hypocrisy.

You want someone to reveal the cards of the deck? Then have him/her/them do it for all the players, if not then it's just an attentionhogger or worse a threat. Because it just gives others ammunition while leaving them in the clear.

I don,t want anything that harms our troops but if it,s corruption, then thats totally different, and it should be every country.

Do you know why our government is full of incompetent fools? Because there is no limit on how many terms a senator or representative may serve. That, and you need a lot of money to campaign. You get that money either by a political party's backing, your own savings, fame, and/or bribes from corporations. So even though it was the founding fathers' wishes for the "common man" to lead us, it just doesn't happen with the way that the system is now.
