World Series

Go Barry!

I don't know why everyone hates on Barry.
I admit, I was a little upset when he broke Big Mac's record, but hey, the man did, and he deserved it. I don't follow baseball much, except in the fall, but I've watched Barry, and he's OK in my books.

I don't have a team in this series. I rooted for the A's just to spite the Yankees, and the Angels came out and whooped them. I always tend to root for the underdog. I like the Halos since they seem to be a solid team, no real superstar (except for Glaus - he's a stud).

Should be a good series, I hope

What's up, :dog:!

I don't hate Barry, but I can't say I like him, either. 😛

Yes, Glaus kicks butt. 😀

I think it will be a good series, even if it goes only 4! 🙂

Giants 4, Angels 3.

But hey, it was a great game. Both pitchers, Washburn (does anyone else think he looks a little like Kiefer Sutherland?) and Schmidt, had a tough night, Bonds (though Fox didn't have to play that annoying royal crap after he hit the ball), Sanders, and J.T. Snow (who made a great catch after slipping) homered for the Giants, and Glaus hit two out of the park. Good save by Nen, and I also liked that thing Weber did before every pitch (if you saw the game, you know what I'm talking about). The Rally Monkey didn't help tonight. 🙁 Tim Allen, John Travolta, and Danny Devito were also at the game. Game 2 is tomorrow night at the same time (4:30 PT) on Fox. Congrats to the Giants. 🙂 But we'll get our revenge on Sunday! 😀

I guess no one likes baseball anymore. 🙁 OK, I'll make a deal: if the Giants win, QBWeaver and any other female (Giants fan or not) can tickle me senseless. 😀

I cannot believe that Red Indian has not been in this thread rambling about the word "WORLD SERIES" and how neither team is form another country...heheheheh

Red, baby...you're slacking! 😛 Prime target is waiting! *giggle*

I don't have an opinion about the games. (Not much of a baseball fan here.)
But I did watch the Saints win today! WOOHOO

Angels 11, Giants 10!

Thanks for your post, Joby. I was beginning to think that I'd be the only one replying to my own thread! 😉

Anyways, back to baseball. Game 2 sure was wild! In the bottom of the 1st inning, Russ Ortiz, starting pitcher for the Giants, gave up five runs to the Angels. YES! 😀 Then in the top of the 2nd, Kevin Appier, the starter for my team, gave up four. 😡 So both of them went out early. From there, it was the relievers against the batters, and it was thrilling to watch. Anaheim's Francisco Rodriguez, the 20-year-old Venezuelan rookie phenom a.k.a. K-Rod, pitched 3 perfect innings, keeping the score tied at 9 apiece. He has now won 5 postseason games, matching Randy Johnson's feat in last year's WS.

That set the stage for Tim Salmon to be the hero, who's been an Angel for a decade now and is known as the "Kingfish" around here. He hit a two-run homer off of Felix Rodriguez in the bottom of the 8th to break the tie. After that, Bonds took closer Troy Percival deep, but Troy managed to save the game anyway. 😛 Gray Davis, who is California's governor, and Kiefer Sutherland, some of the women from the new Fox show The Girl's Club, and Kobe Bryant, sporting a rally monkey around his neck, were at the game. :cool2:

Game 3 is Tuesday at 5:00 PT in San Francisco on Fox. Be sure to tune in! 🙂

Boy Oh Boy those were great games.

The scores were both close and great plays by both teams. This is one of the first world series I've really gotten into. I'm more of a football fan. But these two games have been great.

I hear the two mayors placed bets. The SF mayor would have to wear a cowboy hat for a week or the Anaheim mayor would have to wear an orange/black fidora. I can't wait to see who's gonna win that one. Plus... the fun I'm gonna have tormenting AMK! heheheheheh

I agree with you, QB. Those first 2 games were classics, IMHO. Too bad the starting pitchers haven't been all that great 🙁, but the other stuff made up for that. 😀

I didn't know about that bet by the 2 mayors, but yes, it would be cool to see either one of them wear a funny hat for a week. 😛

And about tormenting me, either team still has to win 3, so if I were you, I wouldn't get that rack out just yet. 😉

Thanks for making me not feel alone in this thread, QB. 🙂

No problem AMK. It's just kinda hard to log on at home right now. My 'puter took a dump and it's in the computer hospital right now. My only access from home is using my work laptop which isn't always such a good idea.

anyway... Go Giants!

Seems like you win such a bet either way.

For the record, as a Dodger fan, I will root enthusiastically for anybody to beat the hated jints. So for now all I have to say is "Go, Angels!"

And it would be nice to see Mike Scioscia and Mickey Hatcher, both Dodger heros from the World Championship season of 1988, get another ring as manager and coach.

I can understand that. But games in some other sports also last quite long. Have you ever watched a triple-OT hockey game? Now THAT'S long! 😀

That's why I made the bet. 😀

I agree, mila. I think many, if not most Dodgers fans, are willing to put aside the cross-town rivalry because of the Giants, er, "jints." 😛

Mike and Mickey getting that ring would be way sweet. 😉

BTW, isn't Dusty Baker, San Fran's manager, also one of those Dodger heros? I think there was an interview of him and Mike before Game 1. If I'm right, then I'll be happy for him, and ONLY him, if the Giants win the WS.

Angels 10, Giants 4! We're halfway there!

The series shifts to the Bay, and the Halos STILL win! 😀

Tonight the Angels really beat up on the Giants. SF scored in the 1st inning, but Anaheim got revenge in the 3rd and 4th, knocking out pitcher Livan Hernandez by putting up 4 runs in both with a bunch of line drives to make it 8-1. In the 5th, Aurilia and Bonds homered and cut the deficit to 8-4. The Halos added 2 more for the final tally and now lead the series 2-1. Robin Williams and Danny Glover were in attendance, as was Gene Autry's widow Jackie. Game 4 is Wednesday. 🙂

The Angels beat the socks off the Giants last night.

But Barry really made a show. He's hit at least 1 home run in each World Series Game so far!

but No worries. We'll come back tonight!

Go Giants!

The :angel:s have been doing that to other teams all this year. The offense is awesome, which allows me to not criticize the pitching staff so much. 😀

Yes, Barry's done what he's known for all right. But homers don't (always) win games. 😉

We'll see, QB. Thus far, the starting pitchers have not been able to shut down either team. I hope John Lackey (Anaheim's starter on the mound tonight) can do the job; he had to pitch in relief in the second game. Even if the Giants win, they can only even the series, while the Halos have a chance to go up 3-1, so I'm not worried, even if Barry does his thing again. 😛 But if he does, I hope he hits that Taco Bell target on the water so we'll all get free tacos. :blaugh:

I would think baseball OT is alot more exciting because everyone will be trying to end it with one swing. 😛 😛

Giants 4, Angels 3.

Giants win, BOO! 😛 Anaheim was up 3-0 after Troy Glaus homered, but SF scored the next 4 runs, the last coming off of previously unhittable reliever Francisco Rodriguez. Bonds did not hit one deep, but he was also walked most of the night. Robb Nen saved another game for SF. Lots of double plays, Glaus allowed a foul ball to go fair, and Spiezio made a great catch. Game 5 is on Thursday, and game 6 will be in Anaheim on Saturday. Congrats, San Francisco, but Angels in six. 😀

So we're head to head. 2 to 2! This is a terrific World Series.

But the Anaheim Chickens wouldn't even pitch to Barry. ok, ok... granted that got the Angels a couple of double plays but come on.... Pitch to Bonds! Play Baseball! Besides... the country needs their Taco Bell Tacos! LOL

Ok,

Look, I have never been real big on baseball, but I've seen enough to know this. I don't care about strategy... whatever happened to sportsmanship. You where you made sure that the game was far. Keeping the game fun and fair was the top priority. I know the importance of winning, I guess I just this it should be unsportsman-like-conduct!

I SWEAR IT'S A CHICKEN NOT A MONKEY!

Guys, the reason Bonds isn't being pitched to is that we RESPECT his hitting! With one swing of his bat, he can alter the outcome of a game dramatically. When there are multiple men on base, walking him is smart, not chicken! He's already hit three homers off us. I will admit that those tacos are tempting, but they're not worth losing the World Series over. 😀 And since I'm a good sportsman, good luck to the Giants today and Saturday. 🙂 But I still want the Angels to win! 😉

I know AMK. It was obvious why the Angels didn't pitch to Bonds. It sure would have been cool for him to have 4 homers in 4 Series games though.

Oh well. I'm still really enjoying the series and I'm not even a baseball fan. I NEVER watch it. But I've been glued to the games mostly because both teams are really playing well.

Best of luck to the Angels but GO GIANTS!
