WWE Star Chris Jericho Punches Woman After Wrestling Match

Yeah, there was heckling involved, but it was not the main issue imo. The problem arises when fans go out of their way to cause a problem. On top of heckling there was a large amount of harassment from not allowing him to leave. Jericho has been through the ups and downs of being the nicest face to the most hated heel (around where he is now actually). So I doubt the heckling was bothering him.

Wrestler Chris Jericho gets in altercation with fans
Updated Mon. Feb. 9 2009 9:13 PM ET

The Canadian Press

VICTORIA -- Victoria police are investigating after wrestling superstar Chris Jericho's altercation with fans following a World Wrestling Entertainment event.

In a video of Saturday's incident posted on YouTube, Jericho appears to strike a female fan in the face.

In a statement, the WWE says Jericho's car was attacked by a mob as he left the event and that as he exited the vehicle to ask the crowd to clear a path, a man and woman physically and verbally assaulted him.

Police spokesman Grant Hamilton says a man and woman were taken into custody, questioned and released, and that the man was not Jericho.

Hamilton says police have been in contact with WWE officials and they are co-operating with the investigation.

Hamilton says it's too early to determine whether or not charges will be laid because police haven't viewed all the video footage and more witnesses have to be interviewed.

My (probably too long winded) opinion

It's easy for everyone to say watching a stranger on youtube, but if I punched your mother, sister, girlfriend or wife, I doubt there's be an acceptable reason for it and none of you would say "Well, mom... you had it coming" or "Yeah, my wife needs hit by strangers if she acts like that."

My mother, sister, girlfriend, wife or any women i would choose to be associated with would not be the sort of person to lunge at another human being without good reason and without knowing that there could be retaliation.

I have long debated with friends the changing standards in our society.
The rule "never hit a woman" was created in a time when women were second class citizen who for the most part were home makers and the men were the providers. It was inconceivable back then the attitude and behaviour of women today. Women would not answer back to men and were mainly subserviant. In these situations men used to beat women for no reason and this was obviuosly unacceptable and became rightfully taboo.
Times have changed and women now behave like men. In these circumstances men should treat women like any other man.

Too often women scream equality and then hide behind their gender. If a women strikes and man they have started a fight. I will not pick on the big bastard in the corner because i know he will deck me and so should women look at it this way.
DO NOT START SOMETHING UNLESS YOU INTENT TO CARRY IT THROUGH!!
or another favourite
DO ON TO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD THEM DO ONTO YOU
Now i have never hit a women and do not intend to start but i can see the rational in how these situations arise.
But as with any retaliation it really should be proportional to the attack and from what you can see on the video (which is not alot) it does look as though he over stepped a mark.

Chris Jericho is a professional athlete and actor. Yes he retaliated too far but i do not believe he was wrong to retaliate.

Final thought. Men should NOT hit women but women should NOT hit men. Should either side decide otherwise then they should do so at their own peril!!

I know it is controversial thing but I was raised that a man should never hit a woman no matter what she does!I believe this even at 19.Now is that to say it is okay for a woman to go beat up a man,NO but even if she does a guy can walk away,he doesn't have to take it.However a woman can get pinned down and not be able to defend herself and not to mention, this is a professional fighter. He should be charged with assault and battery and get jail time. This lady never laid a hand on him,he could have drove away or stayed in his car but instead he chose to be an ass (excuse my language)

what if a woman slices off a man's leg? does he just walk away? or hobble?

post conventional reasoning was never so much fun!

He's not a professional fighter, first of all. He has been trained in stage combat (essentially). Yes 'pro' wrestlers can get hurt by their stunts, yes it is highly aggressive, but he would not beat a trained fighter in a fight (most likely, some people do have natural talent).

My sister married a man who could not pin her down to save his life, but she could probably do it to him. There are professional female body builders who would tear apart just about any man I know. There are professional female boxers who would slaughter most men in a fight (and then face assault with deadly weapon charges).

Also, if he would have driven off he would have run down at least 5 people, I'd rather have him slug the women, she'll recover from that a lot faster then someone who got rolled over by a truck.

Jericho has explained himself and apologized exhaustively. The only reason he decked her was because he thought it was Izzy. Cut him some slack.

Except she did lay a hand on him, and was part of a mob that was blocking his way...after he was trying to get out. So...yeah, way2payattention and all.

It's not like he turned around and slugged her in the face...more like backhanded whoever was behind him, and whoops!

He did not have to hit her.I am sorry but my opinion still stands,a man does not need to be hitting a woman. If he couldn't drive away, fine he could have sat in his car and called police on his cell phone or just sat in the car.

He got out of the car to tell the fans to please move out of the way.

As you saw he was trying to get in the car and the girl lunged at him with his back turned. He then turned and tried to hit whatever it was that was coming at him. Guy or girl don't matter, you go at someone from behind and you should expect that kind of reaction.

It is highly unlikely he will get jail for this; and rightfully so.

Yeah...sit in his car...so that the mob could tip it over.....:rolleyes

Quite frankly, in a business where the vets tell younger guys horror stories of rabid fans (like that) forming mobs (like that) swarming wrestlers after shows and then KNIFING them, Jericho was perfectly within his rights to swing at whoever it was he saw SNEAKING THE FUCK UP BEHIND HIM WHEN HE WAS GETTING INTO HIS CAR!!!!! Holy shit.

I don't believe that the whole "A man cannot hit a woman" thing still stands today.
It's broken logic.

Going back to what Tickler Dae said early on in this post:

tickler Dae said:
If women want to scream equality, and being of and ethnic background I am all for it, then you can not say "you should not hit a woman for no reason.

If women say they want to have equal rights and equal opportunities, then they're going to have to take on the consequences of equality too. So if a woman commits an unprovoked attack on a man, they should expect to get hit back.

I'm not saying that a man should hit a woman... a man shouldn't really hit anyone, but given the circumstances hitting a woman should not be considered any more offensive than if it were a man that he hit. This may go against what I was brought up to think, I mean I was brought up in the same manner as QueenBeeMari being taught "Never to hit a girl", but things change over time.

So if anything, LoveTheGiggles logic is what I believe in.

They would not have tipped over the car,and even so they security would have been there very soon if he would've just called them instead of being so horrible and hitting her like that. It's so terrible.I am so happy I was never a fan of the wrestling thing and now I never will be.That is terrible and just wrong.I don't care what the circumstances were,he is a big strong guy who had several other options he chose not to take. No,instead he had to be the biggest loser of all and hit on some poor lady!Quite frankly,I am outraged!

So, Mari, tell me this. Say that same woman had pulled a knife on him and and lunged to stab him (which has happened several times in the pro wrestling circles, and I believe one up and comer was killed 15 years ago in Puerto Rico). Does he just stand and do nothing because she's a woman?

They would not have tipped over the car

You know this how? It's happened before with mobs; kinda what they do, among other things.

and even so they security would have been there very soon if he would've just called them instead of being so horrible and hitting her like that.

Security were right there in the middle of things, twiddling their thumbs and looking confused as to what exactly their jobs were. I'm starting to doubt you watched the video, or read any articles, or tried to equate yourself with the situation at all other than 'HE HIT A WOMAN WHAT A WORTHLESS MAN BOO-HOOS!!!'

It's so terrible.I am so happy I was never a fan of the wrestling thing and now I never will be.

Way to pass judgment on an entire industry because of the actions of ONE MAN (one man who was defending himself, but you apparently think that because he was defending himself against someone with tits, that makes him a monster)

That is terrible and just wrong.I don't care what the circumstances were

Pending on your response to Hawk is whether I forever pass judgment on you as someone who has either lead a sheltered life or is an idiot, with either way making further debate pointless.

he is a big strong guy who had several other options he chose not to take. No,instead he had to be the biggest loser of all and hit on some poor lady!Quite frankly,I am outraged!

Actually, he didn't hit on anybody; he's a happily married man with a son (a well-spoken family man with a high-paying job. Wow, what a loser) Now, he did HIT someone, and it was certainly a WOMAN, but if you think that person qualifies as a 'lady', your standards are something in the lacking department. I'm curious as to what other options you think he had in that situation.

No, seriously, tell me what he should have done, I'm almost cat-ish in my curiosity. And don't give me anything about how he shouldn't have put himself in that position or whatever, I mean what should he have done in the situation of him with his back turned and someone who is part of an angry mob of stupid marks (wrestling lingo for dumbass fans who think pro wrestling is "Real") yelling at him, cursing him out, and threatening him (while security is either nowhere in sight or not doing their jobs, which probably and rightly made him more than a little scared) makes a grab at him.

Go on; tell us what he should have done.

Concerning this whole 'hit a woman angle' I still stand by my statement that I would not do it unless there were extenuating circumstances. I say that in the same sense that I would not punch a kitten across the room. More often than not there is a size and strength discrepancy between a man and a woman. More often than not she will pose no physical threat. A shove is sufficient to get your point across. And if she has a gun well a paraplegic can brandish an equalizer just as well.

This whole Jericho thing is a piss poor example of a man hitting a woman. So I really don't see why we are even arguing over it.

How about this one? This girl is giving him some lip. She could pull a knife on him.

This man was in his car driving around when the altercation began. So,why not get back in if you are having a problem and leave? He then spit in her face. Why,that's uncalled for? So,she started hitting him which was wrong,so,then he punches her instead of just walking away. They both were wrong and two wrongs do not make a right but he did not have to punch her. That is unacceptable in my book. Now to answer your question I have been slapped in the face many times and hit in the head with a bottle and a girl once wanted to fight me and every time I simply walked away.I do not like fighting.I do every possible thing to avoid it but my mother was abused for years and I have been abused too and there is one reason I will fight and that's if I ever see a man hitting a woman. There is no reason for it.If the security guards didn't do their job call the police.

No,he better start running or get in his car because it would not be a good idea to stand there and get killed.I would run to the nearest public building and call the police.
