This is sort of a "tree branch" to the "holding grudges" thread. It caused me to wonder. Do any forum members have people whom they despise so much, that they can't even refer to them by name, and end up referring to that person as "Him" or "Her", be it an estranged family member, an ex gf or spouse, etc?
I'm sure this has happened in the past, but I don't recall exactly when. Currently, I'm so disgusted with my father's behavior, that if someone asks me about the situation, my answer will be "I'm not talking to HIM", without even saying his name (Alan), or "My father".
I may have posted about this before. I had a pen pal in the late 1990s, whom I was very fond of, who was a member of the Mormon Church. We talked on the phone every Sunday, and planned to meet, but the meeting never happened. Our relationship didn't grow to the next level, because, she wanted me to convert, and take on all aspects and rules of the church, and I couldn't do that.
When I first started talking to her, she had broken up with her boyfriend. Periodically, throughout our interaction, she would either have communication with him, or he would come back into her life. It got to a point, where I got so fed up, I would say to her: "From now on, I don't even want you to say his name. We're going to refer to that individual as "Him".
So, my question is: Do other forum members do this, as in, refer to estranged family members, ex significant others, or, girlfriends or boyfriends ex significant others as "Him" or "Her"? I'm guessing this is probably fairly standard, but I was just wondering.
