At last, I have worked a month and a half with only one day off, and though I still won't have a day off until Friday, at least I won't have to work 12-14 hour days....and I can get back to writing this blog!
Instead of continuing on with the sordid tales of the ex, I'm taking a quick break to write this memory, as I was just reminded of it.
One of my best friends is this great, hard-to-describe individual. She's a great songwriter, smart and cool. We're in each other's friend zones, music is our bond and neither of us is going to mess it up over boy/girl shit. Having said that: at different periods of our friendship, she has liked me, or I have liked her. Never at the same time. lol. So there IS this slight undercurrent of attraction, but muted and repressed. She's tall, lithe, and pretty. She's black and wears an Elvis shirt, lol. I really would have a hard time describing her, but suffice to say: she's strong, smart, very talented, and is completely her own person.
She calls me up the other day, " We have to go see the new Beatles movie! Pleeeeeeeeease!" There's this new Ron Howard movie about the Beatles and I was all cynical about it but what the hell. We went, had a great time, blah blah blah.
Anyways, I tell this to my friend here and they ask me: "did you tickle her?"
And the answer is.....no! I did not tickle her!!! I was tempted though.....she was wearing tight blue jeans, and it's always tempting at a movie theatre to do some knee squeezing......I couldn't find the right opportunity to do it, and we're not really touchy feely.
ALSO.....years ago, I remember she liked a guy. And he liked her. And she called me up all excited and was telling me how she had bumped into him. Apparently they were talking and as she's telling me story, she stops midsentence.....she says something like "we were talking and he was smiling and then he......."
I'm sitting there hanging on the phone, waiting to know.
"What? Then he what?"
You could tell she didn't want to say. She sighed.
"He tickled me!"
"He tickled you?!" I laughed. "How did he tickle you? What did he do"
"He squeezed my knee!"
"He squeezed your knee? Well....what did you do? Did you laugh?"
"No!"
"No?!!! Why not?"
"I wanted to!" she whined.
"You wanted to?!!" my voice rising. lol. "Listen....when a guy tickles you.....you laugh! You like this guy, right?" Those were my words, practically verbatim. I acted like this was the biggest deal in the world, a major faux pas, she could lose him now....if only she had laughed. lol. I got her all neurotic about it.
Anyways I always remembered that and thought "not that ticklish"....I mean, if she can hold it in......not worth the gamble!
*************
But I DID get to tickle her once! Just once!
A few years ago - I'd say 2006-2007 (jeesh, that's ten years ago!) I had gotten her a job at this club, working the door. My band and I used to rehearse in the basement of this club. After rehearsal, we'd go up and get a drink and check out the bands that were playing, or whatever was going on.
So, flanked by my four bandmates, We all surrounded her, where she was sitting on this stool, at her "station", where she took the money and sold the tickets and all that. It was early, though, and the place was dead.
So, we all pop up there to say hi, and I'm behind her for some reason.....and to be honest, I don't remember anything about the set up. The memory is just of the tickling itself.
For whatever reason, I felt bold to start tickling her, and I did, I started tickling her sides, I reached down over the back of the stool and simply put both hands on her sides and started tickling. She, shyly giggling, is trying to slide down the stool to get away, but I'm behind her and I'm following as she's dipping down. In other words: I got her.
"Awwww! She's ticklish! She's tick-l-ish!" I start teasing. "Look guys, she's ticklish!" And they all start laughing and nodding in the affirmative.
"Oooooh....I'm going to tell ALL your fans just how ticklish you are!"....and she's just giggling, giggling, giggling, meek and helpless, little eek-giggles.
Her reaction to the tickling was just to stiffen up and try to slide down the stool. In other words: just taking the tickling, not fighting, not flailing, no frantic movements......a ticklee like that is a cinch to get, the tickling just freezes them up. It's like shooting fish in a barrel! I love it!
I have a vague memory of us being openly flirty at that moment, something we NEVER did in front of people, our mutual friends. I wonder if maybe seeing all these guys that she knew, maybe even having little crushes on some/all of them, seeing them all at once made her a little coquettish. That's the ONLY way I would have tickled her like that, in front of people, or even NOT in front of people.
So that's it. I had totally forgotten about this incident before this weekend. Good verbal teasing, I must say!!! That's what sticks in my mind the most about it!
