Hmm, I think at NEST I would be too excited to spend any time alone whatsoever, lol, but other than that I totally understand where you're coming from. Hah, when my parents bring guests over to our house I tend to mingle for like an hour before I retreat to my attic! XD

Well I can relate to that. Sometimes it feels pretty awesome to just be for yourself. I am much the same way, or at the very least I don't NEED to have people around me all the time.

I'm sure I'll get up to St Petersburg for a weekend eventually. Only a few hours away by train, I believe.

I'm re-reading Nabokov just now...getting a bit fed up with him, actually. I find his descriptions of women rather juvenile.

I'm a Solzhenitsyn fan, though I can never manage more than a couple chapters at a time, as the subject matter is so disturbing. Dostoyevsky is great, though. I've been re-reading C&P since I was a teenager; I often return to themes of guilt in literature.

Next month. Got to wrap things up here in Edinburgh and sort out the Russian visa stuff...they're very bureaucratic, the Russians. On the bright side, the language school in Moscow does everything they can from their end and then they'll courier it all to me in Scotland, so all I need to do is stagger into the embassy with all my bits of paper and flash my tits at the clerk. Simple.
