I don't think anyone was trying to one-up, rather it's an effective tool I use when I feel like my situation sucks. I think "Hey, well at least I have my health/home/whatever" when some people don't. Mitch has it a lot better than many people and a lot of people doing for him what he should be doing himself and not only does he not realize it, he calls it abuse.

Then again, even when you try to get him to "count his blessings" so to speak, he ignores you and continues to complain.

Well, the thing about the whole 'you don't have it so bad' routine is that it applies to EVERYONE.

Nobody we know has the worst living situation. So, saying that has very little meaning when you immediately follow it with your own anecdotal evidence. Because... that saying can be immediately turned around on you.

It does apply to everyone but this thread is about Mitch, who doesn't have it nearly as bad as he makes it out and who has the ability to change what he dislikes.

Well, uh... I'm not really an AT&T subscriber, but I do have a complaint about one of your customers. He's harassing me.

"Ok sir, what is the nature of this harassment? Is he threatening you?"

"We will have to forward your complaint to the customer service department, but I can help you to set up your file. Please kindly tell me what is the name of the person you are complaining about."

well ... I'm not sure, but I think his name is Cole D'Neck...or something like that.. kinda.

well, I don't really know what his *real* name is. It's his screen name he uses on the Tickling Forum I am a long-time member of.
