Who says anyone "needs" it to generate a feeling of pleasure? Personally, I simply find it enjoyable and partake in the smokeage occasionally, not because I need to, but because I want to. There's a big difference.

And what exactly is it that makes the chemicals in pot so bad that you would say it's pathetic to use them? Having sex causes a release of massive amouonts of hormones (Read: chemicals) which generate a feeling of pleasure. Smoking ciggarettes and drinking alcohol alters your mood in the same way by using chemicals to alter the way you feel, often generating a feeling of pleasure. Taking walks, going to the movies, building model airplanes, ANY activity that you enjoy causes a release of chemicals into your bloodstream which generates a feeling of pleasure.

So, I guess that, by your standards, anyone who ever does anything to make themselves happy in any way is a pathetic person.

I don't think that's a very happy philosophy to have. :-(

I smoke daily. I only smoke pot straight when I want to actually get the buzz, though. The rest of the time, it's simply one of many herbs in a mix that helps to calm the physical pain and muscle spasms I have on a continued basis.

Frankly, I think it's stupid that it's not legal. It's much less harmful than either alcohol or tobacco and actually has many positive health benefits. If it were legal, I'd be growing it in my garden with the rest of my herbs. Because it isn't, I have to waste money getting it through others. Such is life in the good old USofA.

As for the comment about pot being involved in most rapes...that simply is not true, Dus. I suspect that may have been one of those infamous scare tactic lines like the supposed fact of masturbation causing blindness. Is there a correlation between women not saying no and being stoned? Perhaps. Though I doubt that it would be any higher (no pun intended) than the figures for women who are drunk.

AFA the video...If they were screaming and tearing their flesh off, then it was most likely laced with something else, which does happen and is yet another reason to legalize it so that it's easier to avoid tainted goods. Or, there's the scare tactic angle again. We actually have a couple of old anit-pot videos that we put on occassionally just to laugh at. They're not accurate in the least.

In my own experience, I've known tons of people who smoke weed. The vast majority are well-adjusted and respectable people. As with any group, though, there are the normal share of jerks. The same goes for booze. However, I've rarely gone to a party where someone is smoking and ends up being a complete ass. OTOH, I've often gone to parties or clubs and found myself totally disgusted by drunken idiots falling all over everyone around them and acting like complete fools...one of the reasons why I avoid such.

I don't quite get what's pathetic or selfish about smoking a joint and sitting around laughing ridiculously with your friends. Artificial and hedonistic? Sure! I'll go with that, but pathetic and selfish? Mmm...not so much.

If you choose to not have respect for someone's actions, in this case, smoking weed, fine, but not respecting an entire PERSON because they smoke pot is just as ridiculous as ONLY being friends with someone who DOES smoke pot.

There are alot of different aspects of a person - get to know them all before you pass judgement.

That having been said...

I know it's generalizing.
But most pot smokers are more laid back.
Rather then uptight.
Or uh...creepy.

I'm not trying to say that I'm not open to people who don't smoke pot.

Lets just say I created this thread as a guide.

Alinas, from your OP it seemed like you were ONLY interested in striking up a friendship with people who smoke, but this post clears that up, and I'm glad. There are ton of midnight tokers around here, and a ton of folks who walk a straighter line, but there are people on both sides who rock (and people on both sides who fucking suck). So I'm glad you're planning on giving everyone a chance 🙂

But, I hope you aren't actually serious that you think you would get along better simply because they share that interest with you. People are a heck of a lot more complex and dynamic than that. For example, I enjoy playing poker, but I wouldn't expect to like someone better because they also play. Heck, half the people who used to play in my regular game in grad school were complete assholes.

And for the record, I don't partake.

I've been 'clean' for... oh, 5-6 years?

I'd like to toke up again (not frequently, but just few and far between), but I can't risk it.

Maybe in a couple years I'll be 'in the clear' to smoke mary-jane without consequence. Until then... alas...

It doesn't work like that. You can post a thread with the hope of getting responses from a certain group of people, but once you start a thread on an open forum, anybody is free to express opinion, regardless of whether they are in your target group or not.

I say this in agreement that I did not like BabyShambles use of this thread to make general moral assessments of drug users. But she is still entitled to post here, regardless of her opinion or non-drug user status.

They're rather good, old thing! I like something a bit different, like smoking vanilla flavoured tobacco. Corn-brew fuels leave a jolly good aftertaste, too.
